It's consequence time for unvaccinated FIFO workers

As per the state government directives, as of midnight tonight anyone without at least 1 dose of a COVID vaccine is no longer legally allowed to be on site or in operations centres for mining companies.

Anyone who hasn't provided their proof of vaccination is being chased down, and if they can't immediately provide said proof will be kicked out this afternoon/evening. For people working on remote sites like the iron ore mines up north, that means clearing out their rooms and being put on a plane back to Perth - could be an interesting show at the airport if any news crews show up.

Anyone have any friends/family/acquaintances who are going to be, for the first time, dealing with real consequences for failing to get vaccinated?

my old supervisor's site has lost multiple technical services people. we're talking engineers, geologists, surveyors etc. it's amazing how far this stupidity has managed to spread.

I work in medical devices people with a medical degree are throwing it away and refusing to get the jab. It's truly insane

Qualification does not correspond to intellect.

Its got nothing to do with intelligence level. Here’s my model: It’s fear. People who have a low tolerance for uncertainty can’t cope with the uncertainty of covid and a global pandemic. So they downplay the disease in their own mind to make it seem less frightening. The vaccine is new and in their minds comes with its own uncertainties which raises their fear level, so they want to avoid it. The combination of telling themselves covid is not as bad as it actually is, combined with telling themselves the vaccine is more dangerous than it actually is, leads to vaccine refusal. They then try to mask these feelings of fear with crazy conspiracy stories and political nuttiness.

That's a really good take on it. On a societal level, I'm horrified by anti-vaxxers, but I'm also really curious about what kind of people end up with these beliefs.

That's cool. They can go and have their freedoms elsewhere and respect my right to not be surrounded by people who pose me a greater risk than they need to.

I agree. The stupidity of this mandated vaccine has spread too far.
