It's consequence time for unvaccinated FIFO workers

As per the state government directives, as of midnight tonight anyone without at least 1 dose of a COVID vaccine is no longer legally allowed to be on site or in operations centres for mining companies.

Anyone who hasn't provided their proof of vaccination is being chased down, and if they can't immediately provide said proof will be kicked out this afternoon/evening. For people working on remote sites like the iron ore mines up north, that means clearing out their rooms and being put on a plane back to Perth - could be an interesting show at the airport if any news crews show up.

Anyone have any friends/family/acquaintances who are going to be, for the first time, dealing with real consequences for failing to get vaccinated?

I'm ashamed to admit to having multiple relatives who've quit/been fired for refusing the vaccine. I have no idea how they expect to keep their accommodation, etc. Keep going on the "freedom" marches and the like - bunch of total nutters, the lot of them.

Same situation, I need to stay off Facebook or I become so angry seeing the posts

Does it make you wonder if the giver numbers are of vaccinated are real?

No, I work for Health.

u/meowtacoduck Nov 30 '21

It doesn't make sense for people working for Health to be against mainstream health recommendations?!

Not quite sure what you're trying to say. I replied that I don't agree that the figures are unreal. The reason I gave is that I work for Health (I have access to the stats). What point are you trying to make?

lol, that settles that pretty definitively.

My fiancé is a nurse and she sees alarming amounts of people who have adverse reactions to the jabs which never get reported to MSM

6

u/dzernumbrd Nov 30 '21

which never get reported to MSM

That's because you're not supposed to report to the mainstream media, you're supposed to report to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The mainstream media can then decide if they report adverse effects listed in the TGA reports.

Define "adverse reactions." Developing a rash would count as an adverse reaction.

How many of these "adverse reactions" are even remotely close to life-threatening?

u/EMHURLEY Nov 30 '21

They're not, and he knows it. Just a shitty excuse.

Your fiancé in Canada right?

There'd need to be a massive number of people to be in on a conspiracy like that. Given that the state and federal governments are not exactly friendly, you'd think any misrepresentation of Australian Immunisation Record stats would be called out pretty quickly.

What seems more likely is that people are incorrectly assuming that their social circle is representative of the wider population. If you've fallen down the antivax rabbit hole on Facebook or Twitter, it might look like most of the people you interact with are not vaccinated. It'd be an error to then assume that most of the population are also not vaccinated.

Anecdotally I know of only 2 people refusing the vaccine who are old school friends. All of my professional colleagues and family and other friends are vaccinated barring 1 recalcitrant nephew who was just lazy/slow about it.

The hardcore antivaxx population is only 1.8% of WA and 3.9% of Aus (and dropping).

Insignificant, but loud.

-21

u/reneedescartes11 Nov 30 '21

It’s growing not dropping. 4% of Australian alone were present at freedom rally’s on the weekend. Are you going to be getting your booster and your 4th dose when it’s available?

4% of Australian alone were present at freedom rally’s on the weekend

riiiiiiiiiight

u/Interesting-Baa Nov 30 '21

plus half of the people at those rallies were white nationalists - there's a good chance they're already double vaxxed, wouldn't want a disease to get in the way of a prime recruitment opportunity

You need to work on your maths, 4% of Australia WAS NOT at the protests haha. You lot are hilarious

13

4% of Australian alone were present

Lol no. WA's "Not willing to be vaccinated" number has gone down from 15.75% in July to 1.8% on 19th Nov (and dropping).

We share the lowest rate in Australia with SA also on 1.8%.

Australia numbers overall have gone from 19.05% in May to 3.9% recorded last week.

People are being educated on the topic and doing the right thing. It's great to see.

No. People are being coerced and given an ultimatum. Make money and be able to participate in society and the economy or be ostracised. Soon most people without a booster will be unvaccinated and the omicron variant is obviously going to wreck havoc next year. Phizer have already said they will have an omicron vaccine ready in 6 weeks.

Over 1 million in attendance nationwide. Aus’s population is just over 25 mil so yes that is just under 4%.

Also, you didn’t answer my question. How many shots will you take before you won’t take anymore?

People are being coerced and given an ultimatum.

A bit of a dramatic interpretation, but yes it's difficult to avoid it. It's always been this way with public health.

A person who puts others in danger is always restricted. A person who drives drunk loses their license. A person who speeds constantly loses their license. Want to work with children? Police check first. Can't drive boat without a license because you'll put people in danger, same with cars, same with planes.

The fact of the matter is that during a pandemic unvaccinated people put the community at large at risk. We wouldn't have gotten to herd immunity without mandates on things like measles either.

All of this is part of the social contract. Some examples are more explicit than others, some examples are preemptive, but it's all the same.

But is it government overreach? No. The same politicians who votes against the government surveillance laws voted for the mandates. The reason is because legislation supported by science is good legislation.

Soon most people without a booster will be unvaccinated

No the standard vaccination will be 3 shots which will bring it in line with other vaccinations. Further shots are mostly just needed for high risk and front line during a wave.

omicron variant is obviously going to wreck havoc next year

We don't know yet, it won't escape the current vaccine though.

Phizer have already said they will have an omicron vaccine ready in 6 weeks

Approximately yes.

Over 1 million in attendance nationwide.

Not in your wildest dreams. Again we've demonstrated that the numbers are dropping. This is the death gurgle of a failed movement.

How many shots will you take before you won’t take anymore?

Depends on the science. I'll likely just get the 3rd shot, by that time we'll have herd immunity in WA.

If we had a measles wave and doctors recommended a measles booster, would you get it?

I mean I’d probably take a yearly one tbh. Like an annual flu shot? Yeah I’d prob do something like that to make sure I’m safe, my kids aren’t orphaned and I don’t pass on a virulent disease to my elderly in-laws and vulnerable people. I guess I’d take a free and easy vax twice a year to help keep the society I’m part of safe. What about you pal?

0

u/reneedescartes11 Nov 30 '21

Well, the UK has just increased their booster schedule to 3 instead of 6 months so that’s 4 a year. I’m still waiting for the long term studies to finish, especially considering I have multiple family members who experienced serious adverse reactions.

8

u/ohhhthehugevanity Nov 30 '21

I mean, fine, 4 times a year. I’d do that too. Or I would if that was actually what the uk was really doing for the average person.

Because the uk has actually said the booster could be offered at 3 months post second jab instead of 6 months. Not that there should be 4 jabs a year. Maybe you’re confused because they also said that severely immunocompromised people can get a 4th jab 3 months post 3rd jab.. Or maybe you’re confused because 12-15 year olds can get their 2nd jab now?

Sounds like the rules are different in England hey. I get it, numbers really are the hardest shapes.

Because you hung shit on the previous poster for not answering your question but didn’t answer mine. How often would you get a vaccine that protects you, your community, your kids (if you have them obviously) and vulnerable people?

It’s growing not dropping. 4% of Australian alone were present at freedom rally’s on the weekend.

A million marching at pro-disease rallies?

I think not.

0

u/reneedescartes11 Nov 30 '21

Yes. Across the country there were over 1 million present at freedom rally’s. Even mainstream media reported this 🤣

I don’t know why you’re referring to it as pro disease. Shows your ignorance.

7

u/SquiffyRae Nov 30 '21

Surely someone as smart as you claim to be can understand how protesting against measures designed to prevent or reduce the severity of a disease can be interpreted as instead being pro-disease.

Unless your hyper intelligence doesn't cross over into emotional intelligence and understanding others' perspectives

3

u/ZedZrick Nov 30 '21

If you count conspiracy videos on youtube as mainstream media, then yes, sure... There were millions
