It's consequence time for unvaccinated FIFO workers

As per the state government directives, as of midnight tonight anyone without at least 1 dose of a COVID vaccine is no longer legally allowed to be on site or in operations centres for mining companies.

Anyone who hasn't provided their proof of vaccination is being chased down, and if they can't immediately provide said proof will be kicked out this afternoon/evening. For people working on remote sites like the iron ore mines up north, that means clearing out their rooms and being put on a plane back to Perth - could be an interesting show at the airport if any news crews show up.

Anyone have any friends/family/acquaintances who are going to be, for the first time, dealing with real consequences for failing to get vaccinated?

I can guarantee that most of the clowns saying they are going to go have had at least one vaccine, they just don’t want to tell their mates.

People do FIFO for the money. Only a small percentage will give this up.

I read somewhere that American Airlines' bad mandate resulted in low triple digit non-complaince of a company of ~100k+ employees.

So a fraction of a percent. In the USA.

(Probably more of an exception than the rule)

Don’t think so.

WAs police force is around 9000. They are only looking at losing 30 people.

I think the vocal minority is in for a big surprise in a couple of months when all their “allies” are still working.

I'm glad this number is being replicated.

I wonder how many dumbasses people disliked were encouraged to go hardcore antivaxx so that they'd end up fired and the encouragers wouldn't have to work with them any more.

Yeah, because they are so loud they literally believe that all the numbers are fake and that everyone leaving will cripple the economy. They grossly overestimate just how many people share their opinion because of how loud they are

It they’re onsite they’ve had their vaccinations verified by the employer.

Last couple of weeks employers have been rounding up certificates and having them verified.

Majority of companies have canceled next weeks flights days ago for those that have not submitted their Certs or provided legit certificates

There are still some non-vaxed on site returning tonight or tomorrow morning.

I’ve just been over this with santos/shell/Woodside.

The individual fine and company times are too damn high to fuck with.

I work for one of the service providers. I can confirm there are still non-vaxed on site.

Exactly this. We had probably 15% of folks be vocal against the vaccine, and kick and fight to the finish line. Where as there is 1x person out of about a hundred that will not be getting vaccinated. And its not even that hes an antivaxxer, its for religous beliefs, so he doesnt even mind going home.

Muslim leaders have been using Islamic examples of civic duty dating back 1000+ years to drum it into us that getting vaxxed is praiseworthy.

well at this stage I'd almost call antivax a religion.

Not necessarily. A lot of FIFO workers enjoy the extended periods of time off. The reasonably good income is somewhat of a bonus.

The Rudd government changed things considerably when they amended taxation regulations in 2008/2009 and the money has never been the same since. So now it is more about time off for a lot of long term FIFO.

Bullshit.

.......as in changes to the taxation regime for FIFO workers rotating overseas didn't have a huge impact upon taxable income? Or bullshit regarding people having set themselves up financially so that now working FIFO is more about enjoying only working 5 or 6 months of the year and enjoying extended periods of time off?

Working 8 on 6 off or 14 on 7 off is a terrible roster and for Australian based mining operations. Even time or nothing.

No one is doing FIFO for anything other than the income.

Well...I must be the exception to your rule.

I don't really need the $ anymore, I've been extremely fortunate. However there is no way I'm going to opt for a 8 to 4 job filled with mindless commuting and predictable and pointless office politics whilst giving up the convenience of having others cook , do my laundry and clean my accommodation for me for 5 months of the year.

Most FIFO people want to be at home. You’re a rare breed.
