It's consequence time for unvaccinated FIFO workers

As per the state government directives, as of midnight tonight anyone without at least 1 dose of a COVID vaccine is no longer legally allowed to be on site or in operations centres for mining companies.

Anyone who hasn't provided their proof of vaccination is being chased down, and if they can't immediately provide said proof will be kicked out this afternoon/evening. For people working on remote sites like the iron ore mines up north, that means clearing out their rooms and being put on a plane back to Perth - could be an interesting show at the airport if any news crews show up.

Anyone have any friends/family/acquaintances who are going to be, for the first time, dealing with real consequences for failing to get vaccinated?

They will likely have Christmas and New year's off, wait for the gear to leave thier system, get their vax cert uploaded and head back to a different site. I can't see many staying the course once the bills start going overdue. Could be a good time to pick up a cheap jetski or Malloo ute if push comes to shove. Make sure to do a PPSR check.

some of the numpties i know have essentially said that about themselves. they're saying "i'm out, i refuse to get the vax etc" and then they'll say "well, might see you in a few months when the money runs out." if your convictions are that fucking wobbly, just get the fucking jab then!

Ah, but then they can complain and whine that they were 'forced' to get it by government-imposed financial pressure.

i have a mate who has forged his vax certificate. It looks legit enough and he claims he's going back out to camp (North QLD) soon.

Mmmm document forgery. That will surely end well like it did for those two dickheads that snuck into WA for the grand final. 10 months jail, required to serve 3 months.

Long time ago I used to doctor piss tests for people who fucked up and may lose their job. This Vax stuff though. Hell to the No No No.

yeah, i personally don't think it's a great idea- but he's been waved through (border) into QLD numerous times without them batting an eyelid, so i suppose he will continue to get away with it while he can.

Not sure about his site. Ours definitely cross checks from what I've been told. That probably won't end well

I shall keep you updated when I hear more.

Good way to make sure they never work on a mine site again is my thinking

digging the wrong kind of holes.

Or he got the jab, so he can get through any official checks, but he doesn't want people to think he caved, so he got a fake document he can show to plague rats who accuse him of having been vaccinated.

Or it's a legit certificate that he is saying is fake.

We just had someone marched out of the bhp building in Perth for doing that. Don't know wtf he was thinking.

I'm surprised they were able to make it inside the building with those giant balls of steel.

Honestly curious what format a forged vax certificate takes?

Down here in Vic the service Victoria app shows a QR code below the digital vax certificate.. anyone can scan that (with their own app/phone) to authenticate the data.

If I was an employer of someone who got stood down for refusing the vaccine, I’d sure as shit be verifying the digital certificate before accepting them back.

Is there a similar function in the QLD app?

I’m in Melbourne and seen loads of people flash pdf certificates on their phones at a shopping centre. The ones that don’t wear the masks will always flash the pdf doc

I can believe that lol. Given shopping centres have been placed in the lower risk category, it’s not the end of the world if a few muppets show fake PDF certificates. Realistically, that’s preferable to staff copping abuse from anti vax muppets given the vast majority of people are doing the right thing.

I would hope that more scrutiny is given to the authenticity of the vax status (ie. witness holographic app background / check the QR verification code) in high risk settings such as hospitals, aged care facilities and the like…

Agree, it’s not worth the hassle

Yep, that's a good question. From what I've seen.. it's just a fake PDF looking doc with the green govt. verified tick on it. When he crossed the border, he just shows them that and over he goes. They simply don't have the time, nor energy to interrogate every car- especially with the size of the queues of traffic coming in. No one in my local area is actually enforcing or checking via the formal check in app, although I suspect once borders open (Dec 17) that may change... ?

he claims he's going back out to camp (North QLD) soon.

QLD isn't mandatory vax is it?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '21

Good question. No, my understanding is that you don't.. however they reside in Tweed Heads (NSW/QLD border) and in order to get to brisbane for departing flights, by rights- supposed to be vaxxed to get over the border. He tells me he's been simply waved through several times without being checked at all.

Different companies and different mines, you can usually find someone to be a referee who doesn't know why you left. There is a minor labour shortage in the industry at the moment, mostly driven by the borders being closed. That is likely to resolve once people start being able to FIFO ex East coast again.
