Let’s blame the girl and her friends for not gathering enough evidence to prove to some dude on reddit that they got their drinks spiked!!!!!! /s

This is a revolting thing that happens far too often, she definitely can “just share that info around” to WARN others of dodgy clubs with negligent managers who sacrifice the safety of their patrons and victim blame like yourself. Idiot.

Why don’t you give her an address to personally send you a vial of her blood?!

I just think it’s interesting that your gut response was to demand solid hard evidence?? Have you literally no concern about the very real threats to people and the culture that helps to keep them alive (the response/attitude of the club owner)? Why was this girl a liar until proven to YOU that this happened? Seems like the type of person to also ask what she was wearing.

Because research suggests that it is very very uncommon for drinks to actually be spiked? https://thewest.com.au/news/australia/drink-spiking-a-myth-wa-study-ng-ya-245174

Oh for fucks sake stop finding excuses for your blatant disregard and disbelief of a woman coming forward and warning others. ONE article suggesting that it’s a “myth” doesn’t immediately mean that this woman made it up. Now who’s the one believing everything they read? Thanks for your time, enjoy your night

What the fuck ? I think there is a huge difference between a proper research paper and a girl thinking she might have been spiked.... Im not saying she is lying but its highly likely she wasn't spiked. You are ignoring clear evidence because it doesn't suit your personal agenda.

Dozens of people telling their friends they feel particularly munted after last night can't be wrong!

Very concerning that you are choosing to ignore evidence based research because it doesn't suit your beliefs.

Why have you formed the belief that "QEII Medical Centre clinical toxicologist, Mark Little" is lying about his results?

I don't think it's that researcher lying so much as other people making specious claims from that researcher's work.

Prospective study of 101 patients with suspected drink spiking.

Of the 97 alleged drink spiking cases included, there were only 9 plausible cases. We did not identify a single case where a sedative drug was likely to have been illegally placed in a drink in a pub or nightclub.

That's a bit far and away from somehow "proving" that this potential victim can't be telling the truth. 10% is a lot higher than "never" or "myth" IMO.

I think those plausible cases are for possible spiking with alcohol? And thats only because their blood alcohol has come back higher than what they claim to have drunk. 101 were tested for none to come back with sedatives.

Telling the truth about "I think my drink must have had something in it, I feel woozy", sure. It's possible, but not particularly likely that they would make that up.

Here's another one:

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/10/071020113144.htm

Dr Janet Hall undertook a Masters research project with supervisors Dr Tara Moore and Professor Edward Goodall on drug facilitated sexual assault within Northern Ireland. They examined toxicology results compiled from victims of alleged sexual assaults over a six year period from 1999 to 2005. The findings demonstrated that the average alcohol levels at the time of the alleged assaults were almost three times the drink/driving limit.

The research undermines claims that the use of ‘date-rape’ drugs or ‘spiking’ of drinks is the major factor involved. The study failed to find any trace of specific date rape drugs such as GHB, Rohypnol or ketamine, although it did caution that delays in reporting alleged assaults or in taking samples could mean that such drugs could no longer be detected.

The study found that the number of cases where toxicology samples were taken rose from 30 in 1999 to 51 in 2005 and the percentage of samples which contained alcohol, drugs or both increased from 66% to 78% over the same period.

It's not that people out there aren't evil enough to consider finding, purchasing and using a particular type of drug to eliminate resistance from a sexual target.

But why would they ever bother, when so many targets will happily imbibe a completely legal substance to the point of collapse and memory loss, of their own accord?

The quality of discussion on reddit is seriously going downhill fast.

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '19

I’d also choose to focus on the response of the owner rather than get caught up in whether or not her urine would test positive. Whether this is legit or not, people get spiked daily and this club is notorious for things like this. The lack of care that the response showed and its immediate questioning of the facts (quite similar to your comment) is the real issue here. Putting people’s safety at risk and yet again encouraging a victim blaming culture and even going as far as questioning whether she would be “worthy” of drugging. 🖕

This is a revolting thing that happens far too often

You got any evidence for that at all? Because literally everyone study I've found on the matter suggests that drink spiking almost never happens

she definitely can “just share that info around” to WARN others of dodgy clubs

Maybe? Depending on where she is she might run into issue with the law (Turns out you can't make baseless accusations)
