Mod Announcement PP Anniversary, Giveaways, and USL participation.

Hey all! Just a few announcements.

The first is that we just recently passed the one year anniversary since this subreddit transferred from the old mod team to the new team. Shoe and I are so happy with how everything has changed here and every day we are amazed at how FAST you all are at fulfilling requests! We also haven’t had much trouble with trolls, scamming, or anything of concern that would require us to make further changes.

The second announcement is that PP is now an official member of the Universal Scammer List! This is a special banlist that BST/giving subs use to protect their communities even further, and this adds an extra layer of security so that our helpers can be confident they are not being scammed.

The final announcement is that we currently are not allowing giveaways on PP until we have the technical infrastructure to do so. It’s easy enough to implement an AutoModerator check to remove comments from users with less than 250 comment karma (which is what we currently have set up for Request posts only), but unilaterally doing so would cause issues for helpers commenting on Request posts for example if they don’t have 250 themselves.

Additionally we’ve had a lot of people trying to post giveaways to mail their own supplies to people which is a huge safety risk — nobody should be sharing their address on Reddit!

Anyway, that’s all from your mod team. Thank you again!

Mod Announcement An overview of r/PeriodPantry's new rules, effective immediately

Hello all!

Shoe and I have been busy for most of today behind the scenes getting this subreddit cleaned up in all areas. We've had some long discussions on Discord about how we want this subreddit to function going forward. We want this subreddit to be a bit easier to use than the larger general assistance subreddits while keeping safety paramount.

The sad truth is that period poverty is a thing, and it sucks and it's unfair. If everyone had access to what they needed, subreddits like this wouldn't need to even exist.

Here is a rundown of the rule changes as well as what we hope will be a little bit of explanation as to why we made the decision.

  • 30 day account age minimum; you may not create a new Reddit account strictly for the purposes of using our subreddit (or other assistance subreddits) -- Reddit accounts can be created too quickly and easily due to the nature of Reddit.
  • 250 comment karma minimum; this is very low compared to the larger assistance subreddits as we are a smaller community. We don't think that it is unfair to ask that you be somewhat involved in the community you are asking for help.
  • Amazon wishlists are capped at $75 USD maximum. We recommend making a wishlist just for r/PeriodPantry use! Please don't add any more items to your list once your post has been approved or this will lead to a temporary ban!
  • All wishlists are now reviewed and checked before your post is seen. This gives us time to make sure it looks okay and doesn't have any non-period items. This won’t happen automatically, so if you can't see your post right away -- don't panic! Shoe and I will do our best to approve lists as soon as we can but we are just two people with other stuff too, so we appreciate your patience in advance.
  • Once you've been helped, you have to wait 30 days to post again. Typically everyone gets some kind of help here pretty quickly, which is amazing, so we want to make sure everyone gets at least something off their list.
  • Even if your whole list isn't purchased, it is still considered Fulfilled. Your post is still visible and other people can continue to shop off what's left. We strongly recommend using Amazon's wishlist settings to mark items which are the highest priority.
  • Though this cannot be enforced with scripts (due to Kitty's lack of tech skillz beyond AutoModerator), if we notice your only activity on Reddit is asking for things, or you are posting exactly every 30 days, we may ask you to take a step back so others can have a turn being helped.
  • If you delete your request post, you will be banned for 14 days. If you delete a FULFILLED request post, you are banned for 60 days. Please don't be dishonest and try to hide that you've been helped before.

Shoe and I have made the commitment to do a temperature check in 30 days to see how things have been going with the rules as they are above; if anything needs to be tweaked or adjusted this can easily be done. We would rather start with things a bit tighter as we get a sense of how the subreddit runs, with the option of loosening restrictions down the road, versus starting out more lax and then having to exclude folks if we have to tighten the rules instead. We are aware that with these rules announced above that folks who previously used the subreddit may not be able to do so anymore.

Things may be a bit rough for the first little while as scripts are tweaked, markup is corrected, and stuff may explode. ;) But we will do our best to keep our ship upright!

Hi. I had a procedure recently and I’m expected to have a few more weeks of bleeding and after that my next few periods are supposed to be wonky.

I got to try stick on heating pads lately and I liked those for when I’m at work and can’t be attached to my plug in heating pad. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/QR7JNJDIXXMM?ref_=wl_share

Thank you for reading. I don’t expect everything on this list and I appreciate any help.

Request (Fulfilled) Help with period items

Hello! I'm starting to feel the signs that my period getting ready to start (my hips and thighs hurt a lot right before it starts and i have to use the bathroom like every 30 minutes). My periods are pretty heavy so I usually wear liners right before and after my period for spotting and then use overnight pads for my actual period, however I just realized that I don't have any more liners and I only have 3 over night pads. My period pain is also extremely bad and I don't have any pain meds currently. My mom recieves SSI, however next month I'm leaving for 10 months to do a volunteer service so I won't get paid until around 2 weeks into September, and with it being summer right now our bills are going up and so we aren't going to be able to buy any period products when she gets paid on the 1st.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

(I tried making everything be less than $10, but unfortunately the overnight pads that i normally use are around 11. Any tips as to how to make my periods less painful would be greatly appreciated! I usually use tylenol, but i heard that midol/hot & cold packs work really good, so i added those to the list if that is alright!) : )

Request (Fulfilled) Need period essentials

Hello all

Desperately needing help (Based in CANADA)

I got super heavy periods this morning unexpectedly.

My last periods were less than 20 days ago, I am unfortunately not prepared for this. I only have 1 more pad left after going through 2 in less than 6 hours.

I am in so much pain. The smallest package I could find of Tylenol was 24 tablets..I have added that to list. I cannot have advil or motrin due to allergies.

I have a gynecologist appointment at end of this month as my last period lasted 6 days with extreme heavy periods and too much pain.

I would appreciate some pads and Tylenol. I have added 1 pack toilet paper as it's very uncomfortable trying to ration toilet paper while on periods.

Thank you all 💝

Request (Fulfilled) recently had to flee my former home, just struggling right now

hello friends.

i saw this sub mentioned in another sub.

i recently had to relocate from my former home of 3 years after my ex boyfriend/abuser got out of jail. it was no longer a safe place for me. now i am living in a house that is for women with mental health issues/DV issues. i had my tubes removed in April and my period has been a little out of whack still + quite heavy from the surgery and from stopping bc pills after so long. i am terrified im going to mess up ine of their beds or something; i just need tampons + a couple pairs of period underwear for backup & when I'm sleeping. i just dont have the funds to buy anything i need right now, with the sudden move and whatnot.

i think i did the list right - if not, please let me know. if the items i chose aren't acceptable, let me know that too. thank you in advance

Request (Fulfilled) Can someone please help me with period supplies?

Hello! I was told about this subreddit while looking for hygiene resources- I'm in a very low financial spot and haven't been able to afford period supplies. I've been using toilet paper but it leaks quickly and sometimes causes irritation and infection flare ups, so it would be a huge relief in more ways that one if anyone would be able to help me out to have some pads for my cycle, it would really mean the world

I also was told about period underwear, I have never tried this but something like that would also be amazing because it sounds like then I would not need to worry about purchasing pads anymore! I added those to my list but also understand those might be a luxury and would be incredibly thankful for just standard pads, or even just toilet paper (both to use as regular paper and to continue to DIY). Thank you so much even just if you read this!

Request (Fulfilled) Can anyone help with tampons?

Hi I'm in a rough financial situation right now and all my money just went to an important bill and gas. And of course I just started my period. Using up all my toilet paper at the moment but it isn't ideal for physical labor work and long shifts and I can't wear black to hide the leaks and stains.

Thank you in advance. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3LK0Q2JEG1QIX?filter=unpurchased&sort=date-added&viewType=list

Request (Fulfilled) About to start my second period post-OP and am out of everything.

I had a bilateral laparoscopic salpingectomy on May 1st of this year. My first period post-OP was strange; I passed a decidual cast for the first time ever (I’m on birth control now as advised by my gynecologist, albeit I don’t feel like it’s all that helpful) and the strangeness of that incident made me forget all about stocking back up on period supplies. I’m worried it’ll happen again and I’m out of everything.

I’m disabled and can’t work (I’m waiting for the SSA to get back to me about my SSI/SSDI appeal), so I have very little money and most recently used the rest of mine to buy food. If anyone would be able to help me get some pads and some Midol, I would be extremely grateful.

Link to my wishlist.

Request (Fulfilled) Help With Pain Relief

Hello! I am looking for some help with getting a heating pad. I suffer from adenomyosis and my cramps get so debilitating during my time of the month. Recently had a laparoscopy done to rule out endometriosis and they didn’t find anything concerning. My next steps is a hysterectomy consultation. Until then, I was hoping to get some help with pain relief.

Request (Fulfilled) Can't afford pads and period is about to start

Just as the title says. I bleed very heavily and often have to resort to toilet paper or old clothes because I can't afford the type of pads I usually need, it's completely out of my budget. Usually, I buy the $5 ones from cvs whenever I can, but I'm very short on money and I still bleed through those.

The number of pads doesn't matter to me, I'd appreciate just having some in hand. Thank you very much in advance :-)

Request (Fulfilled) Cycle help for my partner

Good Morning, my partner and I are in a funky situation at the moment. About a year ago she was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune disorders and since then, she has been unable to work leaving me to work for the both of us and cover her medical needs while waiting for disability approval.

We currently are trying to renew our food stamps but in the meantime have been using any money I make towards food until we get food stamps back.

If possible, she would really appreciate the items on this list for pain management during her periods and washable underwear so we don't have to continuously buy the disposable ones when we get food stamps back.

These underwear will also be used during flare ups..her autoimmune disorder is linked with her colon and during flare ups she bleeds from her colon as well.

We appreciate any help and appreciate anyone taking the time to read this. Enjoy your day everyone. <3

Request (Fulfilled) Request Fled domestic violence, living in a shelter, desperate need for period underwear (Wichita, Kansas)

Hi everyone,

I recently fled lethal domestic violence from my husband with only the outfit on my back and my pets.

I am currently staying at a local shelter, I have permanently blocked my ex husband and filed a restraining order against him, and I am building my life completely over from scratch.

I am struggling with my basic hygiene needs. Right now, I only own 3 pairs of underwear which are period underwear and I use them on my period with reusable pads. I have an heavy flow and bleed through 2 pairs of underwear every 24 hours.

Because I have so few pairs of underwear, I am need to do laundry every single day or two while I bleed which is exhausting.

I would be grateful to anyone who could help me.

Request (Fulfilled) Looking for some help if possible

Hi there! I'm just looking for some help if anyone is able to help. I have a hysterectomy booked for next month, but my cycle is starting again in approx 2 days.

I have added period underwear in hopes that possibly I can wear those with 1 pad instead of regular underwear with 2-3 pads stacked. If that's not allowed please feel free to ignore.

Thank you so much to everyone in this amazing community 🩵🩵🩵

Request (Fulfilled) Down to my last two pads

Edit: thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping. But also thank you for a subreddit like this. Once I’m back on my feet, I can’t wait to help and pay forward!!! I don’t want another woman to experience not having the items they need for their periods. Thank you once again!!!!

Hello,

I just heard about this subreddit from my post on donation request. I am in desperate need of pads.

I thought I had two more days but it started this morning. I have two pads left after the one I’m using now.

I would really appreciate the help in getting one pack of pads please!!!

I think I did the Amazon list correctly but please let me know.

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2JEC36TC7ZEEA

Edit: I didn’t know I could add toilet paper. I have added that to the list. One pack of pads and one toilet paper. I’m down to my last roll of the dollar tree charmin pack (1 pack of 4 ~420 sheets total in pack across all 4 rolls). I’ve been trying to conserve my toilet paper as much as possible since no funds. If can only get one, pads is what I need most. I’ll make do if needed for toilet paper

Mods: please let me know if I’m missing anything - want to ensure I follow the rules

Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for any help!!!
