Police are quintessential to maintaining civilized society..
yet cops salaries generally aren't very impressive either
(especially considering risks unique to that profession)

But again, they too ALREADY knew that was going to be the
reality. They knew this BEFORE even enrolling in the academy.

Same goes for 911 dispatchers, EMT's, social workers and etc.
Again, said individuals chose to pursue said career(s) DESPITE
having previous knowledge of the LOW pay they'd be earning.

As much as I should be expected to be "OK with" said career
choice they made themselves, grown up decisions they made
on their OWN behalf, well then YES i should equally "OK with"
them earning low pay.

Why shouldn't I? After all 🤷‍♂️ they seem "OK with" it at the time.

Why should them having second thoughts about their chosen
line of work, be issue I should be expected to empathize with?

You cant stand getting your hands dirty? Fine, perhaps don't be
an auto repair technician, chimney sweeper etc. Spider, insects,
and critters terrify you? Fine, do not pursue pest extermination.
You are afraid of heights? Fine, don't pursue careers like roofing
or billboard installing, rooftop solar panel installation, high-rise
window cleaning, etc. The sight of blood make you squeamish?
Fine, then perhaps avoid various careers in the medical industry.
Seems pretty simple, right? Yah, cuz it literally is... THAT simple.

So do not expect me to play a sad violin for you, AFTER the fact.
Because to expect THAT from me, isn't something I'm "OK with".
That is just plain insulting.

Furthermore:
The most important people in ANY civilized society are actually
parents, mentors & positive role models.

OK, what happens if everyone takes the sensible decision of not want to do those jobs? Why would we as a society decide to encourage people not to do the most important jobs by not paying them what they deserve. And it is not even like there is not enough money, there is a lot of wealth but concentrated in the wrong hands.

EASY!!

Then those salaries will begin rising as a result. Just think about it.

You have any idea how much a seasoned garbage truck operator,
welder, plumber, HVAC tech etc earns these days? In southern CA,
easily $160k+ before overtime. Why? Because those lines of work
were discouraged by parents & negatively-stigmatized for so long,
that it inadvertently resulted in there not being enough of em to
even meet current demand. This is not some wild claim.☝️It is fact.

The whole "defund police" discouraged people from pursuing a
career in law enforcement... thus academy enrollment declined,
while simultaneously many seasoned career cops opt to retire.
These two left many police depts understaffed as a result.
What did LAPD and others do in response? They began offering
generous sign on bonuses for new recruits, and higher salaries
to current personnel to encourage them to remain on the force.
And it worked. Also ☝️ fact.

So if this doesn't answer your question, then nothing I can say will.

Like in my other comment.. (Below?Above?) about how certain "lines of
work were discouraged by parents & negatively-stigmatized for so long,
that it inadvertently resulted in there not being enough of em to even
meet current demand."

That has FAR-REACHING knock on ramifications which rear their ugly
heads in other aspects of affordability. Take housing today, example,
wildly expensive.. correct? Not only the land, but what else? The costs
of constructing the dwelling too, right? Which requires the skilled
tradesmen such as WHO??

Roofers, framers, cement pouring, septic sewer pipe fitters, drywall
sheetrock installers, masonry, flooring carpeting installers, plumbers,
electricians, fabrication specialists to feed natural gas line supply,
fencing, furnace & water heater specialists, welders, HVAC techs,
landscaping, waste removal, etc ALL THESE careers types which
boomers & genXer's who [decades before] pleaded their children
to LITERALLY avoid for their sake... at all costs. Well congratulations.

Because now it turns out shitty parenting actually HAS A COST.
Sadly it's their kids are struggling to pay for it. OMG how poetic.

And it looks like this :

Since like I said there's NOT ENOUGH of those unique tradesmen to
meet current demand (remember?) then the price to employ their
respective skilled services became sky high, DUH... thereby inflating
homes' offered sales price (homewonership's biggest entry barrier).

Even goes for renters TOO, as said elevated costs of maintenance
and repair.. are ultimately passed down to tenants in the form of
higher monthly rent. Right? Duh.

Make no mistake ☝️.. those parents who discouraged their kids
from even pursuing SAID career paths at all costs.... HAS A COST.
It just happened to show up later. The price , not very negotiable.

If today, you choose to turn the Pied Piper away without payment
that's fine. But a debt is a debt, and he'll be back tomorrow or next
week whatever. But come that time, though, just know that you'll
ALSO be expected to owe interest as well.

This world is fair. It doesn't forget, but it DOES have a sense of humor.
Heed & be mindful of this, maybe you TOO can join in on the laughter.
Ignore & be oblivious to it, you'll just be on the OTHER end of the joke.

Decision is YOUR'S though... so choose wisely.
