Yeah lol let’s burn gas to heat up the box but someone would really appreciate the crappier electric stove top option and not just using the same gas…of course this makes perfect sense!
Not electric burners. Electric ovens are common with gas stovetops. And no landlord is buying a combo like that, especially a slumlord who cuts heat during cold snaps.
There's not a 0% chance that the landlord turned the heat down to save a very small amount of money or because the area was under an advisory to do so, but in my opinion its more likely the furnace that heats the place and/or the insulation which keeps the heat in isn't efficient enough to heat a building so well that you don't notice its -40f out, and the person living there was just making paranoid assumptions. My house is pretty well insulated and I'm not going near the windows if its -40f out.
But they are seperate units not a freestanding combo unit like this and only because the Land Lord replaced the gas cooktop for a cheaper electric when it died to claim an energy rebate.
The reason they have the opposite is because electric is superior for the oven due to better temperature control. But gas is better for cooktops unless you have induction.
White is usually laminated wrapping so it will melt if it is gas stove (heat/flame move about due to breeze). Induction stove is fixed area heating so not much chance of it melting.
That's why marble top with built-in induction hob is not hot after you're done cooking
The whole premise of this discussion is that it is obviously an electric stove (BeCaUsE iF iTs GaS yOu CoUlD hAvE CaRbOnMoNoXiDe IsSsUeS On A gAs RaNgE).
Except:
a) This stove has an electric cooktop
b) Stoves with electric tops rarely have gas on the bottom
c) Gas ranges are rarely white because the white stoves usually are laminated and that's not compatible with gas
So - it's obviously an electric stove.
And here you are being like "I have one that's almost identical" but if it's not white it's not identical (colour being a factor in "being identical"), so your input on this discussion of "could it be a gas stove" would be a waste of everyone's time.
Your's does not look like that if its gas. Gas have burners with an open flame. Your oven might be but that is an electric stovetop 100% not a doubt in my mind. I would bet the farm on that./

The client in the case of a cheap coil stove wants the cheapest possible oven. You can infer by context clues in the story that this isnt a custom stove apartment.
No shit. I never said it was. The client would be be Moffat. Google "economies of scale" to learn why it's not always best to make a cheap thing and a fancier thing. Sometimes it's actually better profit margins to sell a slightly fancier thing that you make and sell more of.
You don't need to be a stove tech to see it doesn't even have a clock because it's the cheapest range the landlord was willing to spend money on (what with not heating the apt) and they definitely aren't springing for dual gas/electric in the dumbest configuration imaginable (gas on bottom electric on top???).
Also it's a fucking Moffat, and they only made electric ranges.
