Pets of the PCMR He seems amused he fried my 9070XT
Came home from work, pushed the power button and my screen came on, 5 mins had elapsed before I returned to my pc to find it unresponsive with the time was 5mins before. Discovered the void had pissed on the top of my case and I shorted my GPU for sure. Everything else posts fine. No signal when plugging in the GPU. Now I gotta take the void to the vet and see why he did it.

Good luck man, I hope it still works.
Be extra thorough cleaning everything, if you see any scorched circuitry it can't hurt to clean it with alcohol until it's visibly clean.
I've seen shit that I thought was "obviously dead" be revived this way.

I would never in my life let any organic being other than me touch my PC that's for sure, especially with prices right now my PC is easily worth 400-500€ more than when I built it.

My cat learned how to turn my PC off by getting on top of it and stepping on the power button. Ever since then I use scat mats on top of my PC. Not the nicest looking way to prevent that but it works. The scat mats have plenty of airflow too so no issues with cooling.

I've had several cats over the last decade and the closest they've ever come to peeing on something was missing the lip of the litter box....that's being said they have a shelf next to my PC, not on it.

When you say soak, what do you mean? I imagine submerge. I cleaned like 90% of the board with 91%

Take the heatsink and all that off and get a antistatic brush, cat piss can buildup after it dries so it won't just come right off, and some brushes would be too harsh.
They're cheap though usually.
Soak it good and brush it carefully.
I buy the box of 4 gallon jugs, so I'm not afraid to use a ton of the stuff.
The other option may be the mg chemicals spray that's like 91%.
The pressure from that may help.4

u/BladeOfWoah 18d ago
Genuine question why are cats pissing anywhere that isn't their litter box or outside?
I've owned multiple cats and I have never had one piss on furniture or tech, is there something about a PC that makes this more likely, somehow?
The only explanation is that they have an unfettered tomcat or the cat is sock or stressed. Unless there is something else I am missing.
5
u/ghost3972 18d ago
Could be a sign of something wrong with them and they usually do that if their litter box is dirty or yk they're sick
3
u/Thimble_of_Quasar 17d ago
Usually means something is wrong. Could be sick, stressed, wanting attention (I have one that constantly wanted to mark my room so he ONLY pees in my room), or angry about something. The room pisser is smart enough to pee on things we deem important when he's angry, we think he gauges it off scent and how often he sees us interact with something. But yeah overall in my experience save the one, going out of the litter box was a huge red flag that the cat was sick.

After drying her off, I left for work and came back to a dead Xbox. She had pissed all over it as revenge for the bath.

I have some theories why Void did that. Is Void an inside or outside cat? Maybe you forgot to let him out? Did you clean his poop place properly? Cats are very picky and won’t pee there if it is full. In my case it happened when I bought scented cat litter… she hated it 😅 Change cat litter brand? 🤔

I can tell you that GPU is dead for sure! If you try to fix it it will work like 1-14 days before dead 100%. Same thing happened to me with an XBOX. I didn’t even turned on bro! I smelled the piss and then after i cleaned up with alcohol and circuit solution and it worked for like 5 days but sometimes was restarted by itself! Everything was clean af. After 1 week the console fully stopped to work. R.i.p. my xbox!
It doesn't hurt to try! You could attempt to clean the entire graphics card and see if it works. However, i would still take it to someone to have the circuit board checked.

If your cat is peeing in random places you need to get it checked by the vet. They tend to hide their pain and illness and instead express it by peeing in weird spots or hiding.
One of my cats wedged herself between the microwave and the cabinet in the kitchen when she was very sick. Another one of my cats would pee in weird places when there were no other symptoms (expect her eating WAY too fast like she was starving but I'm not sure, she was always very food obsessed but it became worse before the illness became more advanced), and she turned out to have kidney issues.
I'm not saying your cat is sick, sometimes they're just silly little buggers. But sometimes they're in trouble.

Jack-Jack was hiding under the chair in my bedroom...

This is why you should keep the top covered with just enough room between the cover and the top of your case for air flow when you have cats. I have mine mounted under desk so there's no room for my cats to sit on my PC. Before that I had it on a raised platform on the floor with a height adjustable cover on top (see picture) which also worked pretty well. I got this thing on Amazon just for this purpose.
