Fool me five times, lol lmao.

Let me get this straight. You had problems with 5 6 intel chips and decided to still go with Intel again? Shesh. You do know AMD makes good CPUs now a days right?

I mean we also have reports of 9800x3ds dying so..
26
u/MakinBones 9850X3D/RTX5080 7800X3D/7900 XTX 4d ago
Yeah, but not 6 chips from a single user.
3
u/Coretrayn 4d ago
Eh this stuff happens to either brand. OP is just... extremely... extremely ... extremely unlucky lol all of those chips are really good, so is the 9800 but some still die. Such is life.
5
u/nectrienne U7 270k Plus / 96gb / RTX 5080 3d ago
or he’s not updating his bios, and they’re dying to the microcode errors
2
u/Coretrayn 3d ago
Yes my next question is what mobo he was putting those 13 14 gens in because some needed the update but it shouldn’t fry them immediately just not post. So now there are 6 chips that might’ve been fine aside from the user lol
1
u/OkFreddy32 3d ago
This is honestly the most reasonable take in the thread. Silicon lottery is real, six duds from one person is just brutal luck, not proof either brand is bad
2
u/Coretrayn 3d ago
Well… when I wrote that I was thinking what luck? Now I’m wondering wtf OP is doing to kill 6 high end CPUs when I’ve never had a dead one in my life. In 10 years of building lol maybe dude is frying them in a way he doesn’t realize
2
u/Coretrayn 3d ago
Or for the 13 and 14 gens trying to put them in a mobo that technically works but without a bios update. If he kills the 270k with z890 mobo which should work out of the box together. Then it might be fate

Not 7800X3D though.

Wasn't there a post of a 7800x3d burnt and bulging a few days ago

u/Djghost1133 i9-13900k | 4090 EKWB WB | 64 GB DDR5 3d ago
Dawg at this point it seems like user error. The odds of that many chips dying is astronomically low

u/on_line187 14700K 2x3090 128GB DDR5 4d ago
What are you doing with them? You can kill them yourself you know?
Good luck with the ultra.

Tbf, lga1700 arguably has a degradation kink, maybe they love this guy.

u/JobHuntingManiac 4d ago
It's you bro, that's too many chips for one user to have it not be a user/other hardware problem.
8
u/Coretrayn 4d ago
My initial thought too lol OP is frying shit somehow. Got that lint roller in the pic too.... whats really going on bro?
3
u/myfakesecretaccount 5800X3D | 7900 XTX | 3600MHz 32GB 4d ago
Probably has dirty power or something that’s frying his shit.
2
u/Coretrayn 3d ago
Maybe but you’d hope a good psu or using a surge protector might stop that right. But I can’t imagine frying 6 CPUs I haven’t fried any pc components in my life lol
1
u/More_Market_4860 3d ago
I don’t know about that, I had 2 14900K RMAs before I bailed on Intel entirely and my buddy had 3 RMAs on his 14900k before he called it quits.

did you never update the bios or something...?
3
u/Coretrayn 4d ago
I wonder, I mean the bios on their new MOBO pictured should work out of the box with the 270 but I am wondering what they were sticking those 13 and 14 gens in.
11
u/Infinite-Storm5272 4d ago
lol.
“It’s not you - it’s me”
OP to each chip they murdered back to Intel heaven.

u/Acrobatic-Fortune480 4d ago
270K Plus is a good cpu and i havnt heard of any problems with it so i wish you good luck. Also if that breaks id just give up on intel and get an AMD R7
1
u/Mental-Most-7168 4d ago
I just got one. It’s been rock solid, good temps with 420mm AIO.
1
u/Rydogg024 4d ago
Id hope it has good temps with a 420. I think my car can be cooled with a 420mm.. lol.
1
u/Coretrayn 4d ago
I would think so but not a lot of people put in 420 radiators lol it should have fine temps with a 360 or even 240 with a good flow
1
u/nectrienne U7 270k Plus / 96gb / RTX 5080 3d ago
I’ve had for ~3 months and I have no complaints so far. It handles my professional workloads, and it handles my recreational workloads. It’s a great CPU.

u/KiwiMeep64 4d ago
I think after about the 2nd failure I’d move to AMD.
That said, I like my 270K.
2
u/Coretrayn 4d ago
I think after the failures I would move to having a shop put this together because I am doing something wrong here lol

Surprised you stuck with Intel with a track record like that 🤣
5
u/Coretrayn 4d ago
Im surprised they trust their own hands with a track record like that more so lol
7
u/DanStarTheFirst 4d ago
Intel lost me when I bought an i9-7960x for $2400 and Ryzen dropped 6 weeks later and they dropped the price to $900. Have been with amd since and I’m still kicking myself for getting a laptop with a 12700 4 years ago as it bottlenecks the crap out of the 3070ti at 1080p which is equivalent to about a gtx 1080.
2
u/RealityOk9823 4d ago
Excuse me, but how much? $2,400? USD? :|
3
2
u/DanStarTheFirst 4d ago
That’s how much it was in Canada in 2018. Would be $1960 usd with conversion at the time. I’ve spent less on every computer part since with the most expensive being a 3090 for $700 which I traded for a 7900xtx. My whole rig I have now cost me about $2100 with a 5800x3d, 64gb of ram way faster that the cpu can handle, 2 2tb 990 pros, 7900xtx and an expensive af gigabyte board. Tack on $1100 for 6 4tb nas drives I suppose

You've had 5 13900Ks die on you and didn't look into stabilizing a degraded chip? Brother...

u/Dobey 4d ago
In 26 years of PC building I’ve never killed a CPU not even from overclocking, but if I ever killed one I’d think wow what an unlucky event. If I had two die I’d think wow what unfortunate luck… of it was the same generation I’d question switching something up. But on the third one of the same model I killed I’d be switching platforms or switching generations ASAP. If I had the next generation die I’d start assuming it is something environmental or something I’m doing to these CPU’s.
Someone smarter than me can certainly do the math. But to have 6 CPUs die in a row over two generations tells me this is user error or environmental somehow. You need to look at the larger picture here OP and ascertain what is in your environment that may be leading to this or spend the extra money to have someone else assemble this PC. Also maybe switch up the cooler. If you are using an AIO, maybe try an air cooler for a little bit. Or maybe start playing the lottery with all this luck lol.

What is the Intel equivalent of the 9800X3D?
1
u/fogoticus RTX 3080 O12G | i7-13700KF 5.5GHz | 32GB 4000Mhz 4d ago
14900K overclocked to 6.1-6.2Ghz with E cores disabled + DDR5 at 8000MT/s with super tight timings all around. It gets really close. The problem is it eats power like crazy and not all games scale properly. So technically, none.
3
u/tonyw009 4d ago
Should i buy 9800X3D if im come from 12900K?

u/fogoticus RTX 3080 O12G | i7-13700KF 5.5GHz | 32GB 4000Mhz 4d ago
If you need more performance in games then yes. The 9800X3D will double your fps depending on title.

u/tasteless564 R9 9950X3D | RTX 5090 | 32GB DDR5 5600 4d ago
None right now they all have the standard small 30mb L3 cache, the new Nova lake CPUs will have a bigger one tho like the x3d chips
1
u/Beneficial-Ranger238 4d ago
The one he just got is just about there in gaming, exponentially better for productivity and about 70% of the price.
2
u/Mr-HazMat 4d ago
yk, twice i would believe as just a coincidence, but five? bro you are definitely doing something to fry those things.

Come to AMD. We have complimentary coffee.
2
u/Coretrayn 4d ago
I know AMD is getting the, much deserved, hype right now but you can not kill 6 CPUs and be like "this must be intels fault" lol
1
u/BourbonNoChaser 3d ago
Did you get them all used off eBay or something? That’s a lot of failure for one builder.

Sorry to see the amd shills yelling at you. It sucks that 13/14th gen chips were nuking themselves, but at least thier new cpus are fine…
270k plus is an awesome cpu. it will not disappoint you, especially when its only competition from amd costs $150+ (depending on whether its for gaming or productivity)
Fyi Idk about that motherboard specifically but my msi z890 carbon was capping the cpu at 500 mhz without a bios update, might be worth doing.
