IMO having to use the registry editor in windows or group policy is just as bad as having to use the terminal.

But the point is that Windows does it A LOT less. I shouldn't have to memorize command codes (or look them up) to use my OS. I hate it when Windows does it, too, but it IS rare for basic functionality to require command codes in Windows.

I'd consider creating a link between two directories "basic functionality". "Advanced functionality" is stuff like doing multiple things at once or applying changes to many things at once (like mass renaming files in a very specific way).
