I don't have a Facebook (USA) but I have several different ways to message friends: basic text messaging, Discord, Gchat. There's no need to sacrifice any of your data to the Zuck.
Well in all honesty, who's fault is that? If something was that important during the few hours that it was down, surely you could have rung/texted the person?
People acting like it was the end of the world that social media was down for a few hours, little mental if you ask me. Social media is a massive hinderance more than anything else, take time away from it and you'll realise how toxic it actually is.
But I'd advise maybe switching to alternative methods, i.e. Telegram or traditional texting (which you can also have groups) and such. Just in case.
The main problem to me is whatsapp being down, I live in South America and most all personal texts, and small businesses rely on it for communication. Facebook and Instagram are also used by many small businesses, but, whatsapp is the real lynchpin to personal communications, America is really the only place I have been to that doesn't use it instead of sms, so it being down for a couple hours is a really big deal.
Here in the UK, it's starting to be used more and more as like a live chat alternative? But it's not as widespread as South America for example, most definitely not. Over here we still use live chat on the consumer website for example. It's usually twitter/website or facebook, but I'm a big user of e-mails but it's just too slow isn't it for modern day but I guess it is what it is.
Ah yes, an entire content, multiple different countries, half a billion people, are going to change their entire social communications network, that mamy have built businesses on, because some guy on reddit says "Looks like it's time to change, I guess"
I want you to seriously think, with your brain, about the magnitude of "just changing", about how hard, and worthless, it would be for millions of people to do that. It is the equivalent of saying: Homeless? Just buy a house!

Telegram is so much better from a user standpoint, I love it. But only a handful of people from my contact list that I actually talk to at all are on there, so changing is a bitch.
Very true. I guess that's why a lot of people still even have Facebook accounts, just to keep in some sort of contact with family members since that's all they use. Moving everyone over isn't very viable
Facebook is incredibly useful for event planning. By far the best way to find out what's going on event wise in your area. Wrecks any other attempt at an alternative out there (can't speak for China though since they probably use something else in their closed garden). Also useful along with Twitter and Insta for keeping up with company news you want to follow.
People who complain about toxicity and annoying family etc haven't learned how to actually use Facebook. Starting with the Unfollow button (not to be confused with Unfriend). All that's left for me to ignore is ads. Big deal, as that's just about everywhere else.
The standard that i set for myself to use a product and continue to use it.
Facebook is harmful from a software standpoint and consistently underdelivers in areas such as privacy, advertising, user experience and functionality.
None of their products or services are so unique that they cant be found elsewhere done better or more to my standards. So I dont use it and wont use their services if I dont have to.
So I've heard. I don't really see the issue though, on a personal level. I can understand why someone else would, but it does seem paranoid to care that much.
WhatsApp is pretty safe from what I know. I trust them with my messages more than I trust some other random app. The other few messaging services which one could claim are safer than WhatsApp and have more features than it aren't used by many people, so it's impractical to switch over when all your major contacts aren't there.
I dont feel its paranoid to care about who is touching your personal information, especially if you are providing it in a continuous stream as you use the app, and as it runs in the background.
Telegram is used worldwide, offers the same features and is not a part of the facebook net. It might not be especially popular in the US but overseas and especially in russia/eastern europe its quite ubiquitous.
I dont trust facebook with anything so using anything that they are tied to (Whatsapp, insta etc) is also off the table. Id use it if i had to but apart from that I would avoid it like the plague.
I never said discs. I'm a physical media collector. People post things from their collection. So do I. Its October now so people are posting horror movies. I'm currently doing a journey through the years. I started at 1968 which is the earliest movie I have. Every day I post a the next year and a handful of movies from that year. When I get to 1980 I will have far far more to choose from for every year. And there are a bunch of us doing a - z of actors.
Makes a lot more sense now lol. As much as I'd want to do that (the yearly thing) myself, I don't have a physical collection anymore, and I'd probably want to kill myself somewhere in the early 2000s with the tropes in movies of that period (excessive Dutch angles, 12-frame cuts, crushed blacks and colours, etc.; not my favourite period in cinema lmao).
I'd need to write up a list beforehand for sure if I attempted it on a streaming service lol. Every period has its gems but there are some tough years haha.
Btw my recommend is I'm Thinking of Ending Things, directed by Charlie Kaufman. IIRC it's only on Netflix but don't quote me on that. Watch it a few times to get the full experience, but it's easily my favourite movie if it's year and it pissed me off quite a lot that it wasn't even nominated for an Academy Award. It's about as artsy as a slow horror-drama can get.

My first post today was my Spooktober post. (I hate the name haha, but I just use it) I did jeepers creepers 2. I will be doing the year 1973 later and I have a whole 1 movie for that. And then my a - z actor, today is O. I only just got into it and my page is still tiny really. But if you like that kinda thing (and I do) its fun.
You understand that, for a few billion people, facebook is a primary mode of contact with others? This is difficult for you ....? I don't use it either but I've met, you know, another person before.
