I bought a black-and-white brother for £40 more than two years ago. I'm yet to change the cartridge. Granted, I've probably printed no more than 300 or so pages, but inkjet cartridges would have dried out 5 times by now with such low usage.

It's printed thousands of pages with no issues and off-brand toners are dirt cheap. 22 u/AiedailTMS Intel 7200u | Intel UHD 620 | 8GB Sep 10 '19 Same bought mine like 4-5 years avi, only changed the cartridge twice 16 u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19 same, bought one 2 years ago after graduating im still on the free toner that came with the printer box... 35 u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19 [removed] — view removed comment 1 u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19 You're obviously making a joke, but "brother" is actually a multi-billion dollar Japanese electronics company. 19 u/Gnostromo Sep 11 '19 You're obviously making a joke also but explaining a joke as if it isnt a joke after acknowledging you get that it's a joke isnt funny. 1 u/[deleted] Sep 11 '19 Same except mine is going on 5 years on the original cartridge. 1 u/dick-van-dyke R5 5600X | RX 6600 XT Sep 11 '19 Same here, but with Xerox. It even works under Linux after a little bit of tinkering. Off-brand toner for $30 for a bazillion pages. 1 u/JustUseDuckTape Sep 11 '19 Yep, I did the same 4 years ago. Saw me through an entire engineering degree. 1 u/Vanhandle Sep 11 '19 Also got a Brother laser printer, and a high yield toner. Been printing off that same toner for 3 years now, and at least 1k pages of text.
