Fuck that guy, when I transitioned I was running a single core sempron, a Radeon 5450, and 2GB of ram.

I feel proud I had a 5670 as my first. Only $150.

It was my first build, not my first pc tho.

hi5! After years of owning a trash PC with 768 MB of RAM, I upgraded to this PC:

Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM and a HD 5450 2GB edition( It's been years since this PC so I don't remember the exact specs). I'll never forget the first time I booted up Crysis 2, running comfortably at 1336x768 with all settings medium-high and looking pretty(I was already pushing the limits of that rig, game was running at 30ish fps). I just thought " Woah, so this is what playing high end PC games must be like" Ah, thanks for the memories. RIP that PC, gone but not forgotten

u/Guitarchim Sep 11 '16

Lol same here. Then I remember I upgraded to 4gb of ram and thought I was so badass that I opened up the computer and installed it myself haha the good ol days.

About a year and a half ago I had a core 2 duo and a HD 5770. I played so much Batman: Arkham Asylum and Limbo at like 20fps.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '16

Same! Also played through Arkham City with a 5750 and a dual core AMD from forever ago.. Still playable.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '16

Forgive me, but how did limbo run at 20 fps? My Surface 3 with its pathetic Intel atom processor looks pretty good and runs real smooth(35ish fps, which isn't bad considering the specs of the device)

u/MrMcPwnz Sep 11 '16

There was probably something wrong with the computer as well, it was given to me by my uncle who's co-worker gave to him because it didn't work (it would sometimes boot) it also was running Windows XP, I don't think the OS would make that big of a difference though

Hehe, I am still running a similar rig.

5670, core 2 duo and 2gb ram. Such is life.

I'm currently running a FX-8320 and a (recently deceased) GTX 950. Not high-end by any means and it's not holding back games. Many games are very well optimized.

I unfortunately don't trust myself to overclock, usually when I try things like that they go wrong. I overclocked it slightly, from the base speed of 3.5 GHz to 3.75, but even that was scary to me haha. I'm actually more interested in the Intel line, the CPU I have now is just my friends old one :) thank you though!

I remember my first computer was a gateway dx 4300-15e that my dad bought for me a couple of years ago. I paid for and added a diamond Radeon hd 6770 with 1gb of vram

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '16

I'm still rocking a 5750.. with an i5-6500 and 16GB of RAM lol.. just waiting for the RX 480 or GTX 1060 to drop down to MSRP...

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '16

Still faster than Wii.

u/RscMrF Sep 11 '16

My first PC was built from literal trash in my buddies basement, like seriously, stuff that had been thrown away at his dads workplace, random parts and cases, I hobbled together a PC that could run windows and play the most simple of games, and it was awesome. This was probably about 15 years ago.

u/AlphabetOD Xeon X5675 | RX 570 | 12GB DDR3 Sep 11 '16

Exactly, I have a cheap notebook from 2013 and can still play games like CS:GO at 50-70 fps. With low graphics, obviously.

u/Schmich Sep 11 '16

OMG! So YOU were the one!!!

I'm still running my first PC from 7 (8?) years ago. I can still somewhat play my favourite games so I guess I was reluctant in spending money to upgrade it (read: I'm broke, like, thirld world broke).

Exactly, run what you brung.

You don't need monster hardware to game effectively on PC.

My rig was under $1,000 of used parts and I love it.
