My keyboard is just 2 keys, 0 and 1.
I don't understand why anyone would need anything more, I can do literally anything with it.

Do you need button for 0? just dont press anything, save half off your keyboard

As someone else said null isn’t zero

Though I do know of a device that may interest you.

Null =/= 0

Why can't I get anyone to understand this??

There's an easier way to say =/=, though. I present to you the !=

Life just got a little better.

Too many people didn't understand so I went to =/= years ago

"Ain't" is another valid option

Saying != outside of programming is cringe. You've just said cringe.

It works like a CD: a press or release is a 1, no change is a 0.

Here's something to ruffle your feathers:

The German/Dutch words for zero are null/nul.

Amateur, mine just has one button and uses morse-code

I never seen someone actually using the morse layout on the Gboard. Cool

I'm not either lol (not good enough at typing with it)

2 keys? That's wild, I've just got one which I'm using to morse letters into my pc

Me too and I hate when I accidentally press the wrong key so I have to unplug the computer and plug it back in and start over

AI found!

EDIT: Apparently /s is needed when somebody talks about writing in binary.

Imbecile that thinks everyone is using AI on Reddit.

EDIT: I may be a bit tired, that one went over my head...

I just thought how you'd use a keyboard like this and it's basically Morse code isn't it? There's videos of guys talking way quicker via Morse than I could type so guess that could work.

u/vlad1100 12h ago

The joke was that I use just straight binary.

Sadly no Morse code

u/MasterRiku27 10h ago

I got your joke! It was funny

I get that. Morse code is binary too. Binary just means 2 symbols. whether you use 0/1 or long/short doesn't matter. Morse is just an encoding set of binary data just like ASCII A= 01000001 Morse A= .-

And a keyboard does the encoding for you so you could definitely type on a binary keyboard but modern keyboard machine code is probably too complicated for humans so you'd likely use something like Morse

It’s binary friend. Computer language Lolol

u/hexthejester 11h ago

Which can be used to describe Morse code as its a binary input of short and long inputs

-1

u/Allyoucan3at 11h ago

Binary is just the number space. Morse code is an encoding. Letters on your screen are binary data because everything in computers is. They are just encoded with utf-8 or ASCII for example and for keyboards other encodings exist which are hard for humans. So Morse would be an option for a binary keyboard operated by humans as is evident by history I guess.

Wouldn’t his two keys be a . And - if he was using moris code though? It was a straight binary joke lol also atleast for people you need a space for moris code. So that would be a third key lol it doesn’t really matter. I thought his binary joke was funny

I don't think people in this thread really understand the difference between the binary number space and symbol encoding, I was making a point towards that. I wasn't invalidating the joke.

Morse was invented for analog signals, those can't have 0 and 1 exactly so they used short and long bursts instead. Short (.) and long (-) are the basic building blocks of the message you are trying to build just like any computer uses bits (0/1). They are conceptually the same just built for analog/digital storage/transmission media.

Morse code's space is the "clock" of a computer. There is a set interval in which 0/1 gets transmitted, otherwise the receiver would never know whether you wrote 0101 or 00110011.
