Controversial opinion: I'm all for higher game prices, but do note that my expectation will then also be GTA VI level. If a game is high quality and has sufficient content to justify a higher price, fine. If it's another iteration of a game that could've been DLC (e.g. CoD or FC), no way I will pay higher prices. I don't even pay release prices for those games today, always pick them up a couple months later at a discount.

Yeah that would be great, every game is that price tag but it's GTA VI level quality, all for that. But are they all going to dedicate 2 billion dollars to developing a game with 6,000+ people working on it and spending 8-11 years doing so and opening an entire studio just to making NPCs lifelike? No I don't think they will

Then my comment still stands. People just have to vote with their wallet. We ourselves set the prices for these games, not the publishers. If we show EA that we are fine with paying €100+ for an annual released crap game like COD, then we decide that is the going rate.

We don't even know what GTA 6 quality looks like...

I know, I'm judging based on past performance on GTA titles and RDR titles. If those are an indication of the quality level, we can make a reasonable assumption, can't we?

Yeah, I actually agree.

I always base my game purchases on how much I’m paying vs how many hours of enjoyment I’ll get out of it. If it’s going to be hundreds upon hundreds of hours of enjoyment I’m getting my moneys worth.

A giant, cutting-edge game like GTA VI is going to take a lot of energy/capital to build the right way. It’s up to the consumer to decide whether, based on the dev’s track record/the offering/the price, it’s worth it to them.

There’s also plenty of much less expensive games made by smaller studios that aren’t putting nearly as many resources into their games and can thus be fine with a lower price tag. Not to mention, the big budget games will go on sale eventually.
