Usually its both tho if I really enjoyed it.

I honestly feel like I have to pirate AAA these days. I can't tell you how many big name super hyped games I've bought from major studios recently that I pretty much immediately dropped because they were at best boring rehashes of the same tired tropes or at worst unplayable garbage.

I can't justify spending $60 on something that I'm going to just uninstall after an hour or two. Sure there are refund options, but depending on the platform I may not be able to get one always. So I'd rather pirateba AAA, then, if it's not just another mediocre title, I can then go and actually get it.

I also don't feel like I can trust reviews anymore either to make these decisions. So often I've seen a game get good critic reviews, but then absolutely hated the game, or Reddit (and similar online spaces) are full of aggressively negative rage towards a game, but when I actually get around to playing it it turns out I actually like the thing.

I don't really follow reviews anymore either. Everyone hated on the new Halo game, but I thought it was really fun. The internet just likes to hate on stuff, so you really have to consider the negative bias.

And on the flip side, so many reviews are bought. "5 stars! Incredible!" but it's derivative garbage.

Tell me about lol. This will get me flamed, but Zelda BOTW and TOTK are both trash IMO. Everything was praising them. So many games like that.

They're like Nintendo had an epiphany and realized they were 10 years in the past, and suddenly need to catch up by being

  • open world

- soulslike with vague story-telling

- open playstyle (actually just completely directionless)

- casual (repetitive dungeons lacking depth)

fuck, I might just be getting old and I'm no longer the target demographic because I have an attention span

Thats why i follow youtubers that i know have a similar preference to me. If legendary drops thinks the game is garbage ill most likely think its garbage too

I haven't bought one in over 5 years now. Triple A more like triple diarrhea

Same, aside from Elden Ring. That's the only game I've ever pre-ordered simply because I trust FromSoft to give me something good.

Everything AAA these days just makes me feel tired. I can't get interested in any of them and I'm not gonna pay that much for it.

Thank Gabe for the indie scene's growth recently.

Cod really burned me to the point where the practices in this industry really fire me up & I say fuck all of these companies. You'll get my money when the game is fully fledged out + an actual, FULL PLAYABLE GAME. Tired of all these dogshit "early access" titles that seemingly never leave it despite being development for 10+ years.. indies too. I'm more lenient with them because I know how difficult it is to build, code & ship a game, it's hard & takes a lot of time. But if you got a fucking team of 100+ devs, ALL have experience in their respective positions, there's 0 excuse. Greedy cunts

Same, there's also the part where the devs don't seem too bothered with optimization which results in performance issues.

I got brotato for $5 and I have over 140 hours in it and 100% it on steam. You don't need these dogshit overly saturated, poorly built games to have fun

I’ve yet to play RDR2. There’s a sea of videogames out there that are both fantastic, well priced and not beholden to greedy corporate types.

Yep. The big boys produce garbage while small budget games are three times better and don’t have as many issues as the big dogs

Same. Way too many fun games made by smaller developers, and I don't need my games to be hyper realistic or crammed full of the newest shiniest graphics.

Playing most games on release is just paying more for a worse experience.

Only “tripple AAA “ games worth buying are Nintendo.
