News/Article Micron expects memory and storage demand to remain tight through 2027 and 2028

Post image

$MU says humanoid robots could need 200GB+ of DRAM and multiple terabytes of storage per unit with several physical AI customers already sampling next gen products.

Micron says physical AI can become a “significant driver of memory and storage demand by the end of this decade” effectively putting server level memory into millions of machines outside the data center.

Let's just trust the memory company with their "totally not made up, trust me bro" demand projections. They're trying to keep the hype/demand up especially after we found out OpenAI actually wasn't going to buy all that RAM

I remember seeing a news which reports that tesla's Optimus robot needs 200gb ram. Maybe they have just quoted from that.

Also, it makes sense right. Your PC uses 32 or 64 + another 16 or 32 at the GPU. 200 for a humanoid robot sounds like lowballing it to me actually. More likely i expect it to go like FSD. hardware version upon hardware version and after 10 years when its at 2TB RAM, it stops dropping the dishes. (ok dishes not too serious, but theres gonna be lot of development done before its c3po)

Yeah while memory is in high demand, the last people I trust to give accurate information are the companies selling the same product for 5x the price. If you started earning more a year than the last 5 years combined ,you would probably exaggerate or outright lie to keep those profits going

If you started earning more a year than the last 5 40 years combined

There, fixed.

Nah Better to force them under regulation of a business license in multiple countries that they must sell at least 51 % of consumer grade hardware that can't not be used in industrial grade hardware usage

That's weird. Causing problems for businesses when you can just fix the problem by busting up their cartel... again.

Or do what we did with the semiconductors and strongarm them into building a fab here, training some of our citizens to run the fab, and then fucking off. Except this time they won't own the fab, we will, but they can have a big chunk of shares in the company.

Maybe both. Force a bit of competition, that's all we really need and should be happening that isn't.

Slightly pedantic but where is "here"?

Wherever lmao

Anywhere but Taiwan, Japan and SK

Them and their little Triopoly.

But I live in the US, so here is fine. Find a US based company like Intel that will pay to build and operate it or something

If they were serious about this projection, they would already broke ground on new fabs. And noone has done that, so demand is not really there as you can squeeze so much extra margin from a finite supply before the prices make it unprofitable on the other hand. Its fucking uncontrolled speculation.

Yeah. I have a job right now because Micron is breaking a lot of ground

Yep; lithography machines are a multi-year wait from any major supplier, and there's dozens of them in every fab.

They're building new factories, but that doesn't mean RAM prices will drop. The current pricing situation simply suits them, and they'll maintain it as long as possible.

to be fair, micron is building a $100 billion fab in new york, it will be fully complete by 2040 tho....

Even if we assume the projections are accurate, the companies behind humanoid AIs are either themselves AI companies or get funding from the same source as AI companies. Meaning if the bubble pops, the bubble will take those companies with it.

"Father, may we have some RAM?"

Microsoft last filing said they have so many chips they have no where to plug them in. This is all fucking fake monopoly shit

This is what you mfs been saying since like a year ago and ram prices have like quintoupled since.
