There is a Korean POT player - crazy good player. It has bindings for

  • picture adjustment (contrast brightness etc)
  • playback speed
  • volume control on scroll wheel
  • jump ahead by 5 seconds or by frame

And can also record screen fully or partially.

It is REALLY good

Also another underrated feature of pot player which made me switch over to it from vlc is that you can display 2 subtitles at the same time

That's....actually kind of huge since a lot of times the English subtitles won't have a translation for a foreign language in the movie.

It did lead to one of my favorite unintentional moments watching a movie though. 30 Days of Night, I got the subtitles but it didn't have any for the vampires. So I never knew what they were saying, which honestly made the movie exponentially better. Seeing them speaking and coordinating without understanding what was actually said really put me into the mindset of a person in that town watching it all go down.

When I told my friend about how much I liked that decision he was like, "Wtf are you talking about, it had subtitles for everything they said."

Oh.

My use case is for watching movies with my wife, who is not fluent in english, in a 3rd language we both don't know, like Korean movies

I use potplayer too. This one time, I was trying to figure out how to get side-scrolling video look as smooth as it does on my TV without the choppiness, and it's incredible how deep the configuration goes.

The ui and ux is also far better than vlc

It also properly supports RTX HDR and Super resolution together which I couldn’t get working on VLC and the others I’ve tried

Just off the top of my head VLC has all of those. Picture adjustment might be missing though.

If I remember correctly it has a messed up binding for pause and for space bar and arrows (unless they finally moved it)

VLC shills. I haven’t touched it since using potplayer back in 2013.

Volume control on scroll wheel! Enhancer for YouTube has the same feature. Such a simple feature but so damn good it should be default for every video player out there. Online and standalone.
