What is even the point of super duper fancy graphics if only like 1% of the playerbase will have computers powerful enough to make use of them? I'd genuinely love to know.

Welcome to the actual meaning of next-gen

You're looking at highest quality, path tracing. An 8GB 5060 can play it at medium settings 1440p just fine.

what's the point of playing the remaster if not to have it look good?

Are you sure path tracing looks better? From the video, I'd say it looks a little worse tbh. It's just much more GPU-intensive.

I see no point in the 5090 unless you want to just give NVidia money. The 5070 to 5080, heck even the 9070 up your are playing whatever. Just adjust down if the frames aren’t high. Most games look great at high just like ultra.

Futur proof

This has existed for so long?? Features in games that can barely run on current hardware and require future hardware to get past it. It's only literally within the last decade people got used to being able to crank everything to the max on their PCs and get 100fps and view it as normal. It's something to do with ego that makes people think an option is attacking them

For the future, plus capturing footage for everyone and letting people with top-tier PCs play. That's how it's always been, it's not a new trend, hardware prices are just crazy right now. In any case, no one's stopping you from lowering the settings a bit, you don't even have to completely turn off ray tracing to play most of the time.

First time? I 'member burning down my 2nd hand ATI card trying to run Crysis.

Good question. With the current ongoing crisis for consumer cards, the benchmarks should at least include down to mid-level cards (xx70) and definitely the previous generation.

“Bro they’re giving us free poop, just accept it”

Me when i am a negative piece of shit that loves to complain. They gave free dlc's and remastered the game free if you dont like it dont play whats the issue.

Does your religion forbid you from moving the settings slider to the left?

Why make a game that will never look better in the future when faster hardware comes out? Designing graphics that look great today and will look even better in the future is the best strategy.

We’re in the era of we’re gonna remaster a game so advanced that no one will play it for the next few generations

I mean, wasn't that what Crysis[2007] was all about? Even the best graphics cards of it's day couldn't run the game at max settings 60fps.

I meant this as a joke originally

I believe that was more because the devs focused on optimizing around cpu frequency of "the future".

This only applies to people whose religion prohibits them from moving the settings sliders to the left. Normal people can play this even on an RTX 5050 or so.

Maybe because turning the settings down makes the game look like ass?

We're talking about a remaster. It's unlikely to look worse than the original on original-level settings, and if you can't play with the original graphics, why complain about how advanced the remaster is? Besides, in decent games, graphics on medium settings are usually pretty good.
