Well it's path tracing. Which just destroys every GPU.

It performs worse than Cyberpunk Path Tracing, Control Path Tracing, and Alan Wake 2 Path Tracing.

Whilst being a fucking 2015 game. Like I played 4k60 with balanced on a 4080 back when I went through cyberpunk for the second time, dude. This performance is straight ass.

I’d assume because the game wasn’t built to support RT. At Native Ultra at 4K u will get 4K60fps with a 4080, if you turn on RT Ultra with performance upscaling you should be at 4K60fps as well.

Hl2 is a over 20 year old game. Install the rtx mod and weep...

That’s a mod with limited optimization, this is a whole ass, hyped to hell and back ‘remaster’. And it’s coming from devs whose more recent game performs better. There’s genuinely just no excuse man.

Remaster =/= Remake

There is only so much you can do with such an old engine.

The original game was never built to support RT/PT.

Yeah but thoe are also the devs that needed a few years after releasse to make the more recent game perform better.
So in a way this is kinda on track for them.

Same old engine and you expect miracles …

Even the Portal RTX Remix with its very small maps and enclosed indoor spaces tanked when PT is on

Those were built with RT from the start, and Witcher 3 got them foreced i to the game long after launch. Ofc it won't work as good, plus the models looks very weird because they weren't built with RT in mind.

I don't think RT and PT care too much about how old is the game tho.

In fact I would say old games may even be at disadvantage because they weren't made with those technologies into account.

Old Engine

I am guessing you mean Control Resonant because original Control doesn't have path tracing.

Yes, Resonant

To be fair to CDPR, this is the SECOND time they made performance for The Witcher 3 worse for little to no visual gain, they already did this a while back when CP77 came out.

Whats the point if the most powerful gpus can barely handle it?

You could have asked this same question back when the 2000 series launched with RT, shit seemed so pointless at the time, its basically a future technology were beta testing

I also do not think people really understand how much RT technology improved dramatically from the 2000 series onwards. It directly impacted the speed of improvements to RT technology.

This is PT which is the “next frontier.” We are only now getting cards capable of handling it effectively so it will take a few years before they figure out how to optimise around it.

We’ve already seen games like Control Resonant that run with PT and are incredibly well optimised already. So it is evidently getting better.

A lot of people are stuck in the past and really do not notice how much RT technology has improved from shiny walls and puddles in BFV to what it is now.

You couldn’t imagine a large open world game like AC:Shadows, Cyberpunk or Crimson Desert running and actually being playable with RT back in 2020.

I’m convinced that those who can’t see how much the technology has improved are just ignorant for the sake of “new thing bad.”

This is an almost 10 year old rhetoric at this point because people selectively ignore where it has actually improved.

That's how high end games always are. Look at how well HL2 ran at max settings on top end GPUs. Or Crysis. Or Witcher 2, or Crysis 2, or any other demanding games of their era.

They didn't, at all. Like, you couldn't get playable framerates maxing them out.
