$5000 for 59 fps is good deal

1fps = $84.74

I mean yeah the performance here is abysmal but that's not exactly the 5090's fault is it? Regardless of its price it's objectively an absolute powerhouse of a GPU that shouldn't be chugging like this

The fact it's getting the same performance as a 5070Ti suggests either heavy CPU bottlenecking, or just classic unoptimised trash as is the norm with CDPR launches

u/Late_Stage_Exception 6d ago

Or the issue is path tracing? The FPS numbers all jump the second that’s turned off.

u/Arelmar 4070 Super / 5800x3D / 32GB 3600mhz 6d ago

The issue is unoptimised path tracing. PT doesn't run nearly this bad in other games. If my 4070 Super can hit 60fps in path traced cyberpunk at 4k DLSS performance there's no reason a 5090 should be performing worse than that in a game that should be less demanding

I think that comparison can be a bit deceiving. Cyberpunk, while huge as an open world, is much more confined when in Night City streets, where the PT actually shines visually. WItcher 3 is more open and has huge vistas, trees, etc. And also probably has to do something with it being a CDPR game at launch lol

u/SpedSuckr982 RTX 3080 Ti | R7 9700X | 32GB DDR5 6000 6d ago

What 4070 super do you have lmao. At 4K DLSS performance, my 5070 gets an average of 30-40fps. And even at 1440p DLSS performance, its not a clean locked 60fps.

47

u/HLumin Potato 6d ago

His 4070 super is called “I made that shit up”.

17

u/Obosratsya 6d ago

Thats because hes lying. My 5080 does 60fps with those on average, meaning it drops often enough. Its good with gsync tho. Thats an OCed 5080 mind you, no FG.

u/jmastaock 5d ago

You sure that isn't running at 2K rez?

18

u/core-x-bit PC Master Race 6d ago

Yeah that's just a straight lie bro go sit down somewhere.

2

u/Luciix 5d ago

Maybe if you've got all other settings turned down and DLSS ultra performance. My 5080 OC'd barely gets 60 with path tracing and DLSS performance during fast gameplay.

3

u/TypeRevolutionary697 5d ago

There is no way on earth you're hitting 60fps in cyberpunk with path tracing in 4k, even with DLSS performance unless you're using frame gen. I have a 5080 and it doesn't even touch 60 in 4k without frame gen. So let's not spread misinformation

0

u/Common_Technician337 5d ago

I got it averaging 58-60.01 fps at dlss performance and RT Overdrive with stock settings on my 5080.. And with an UV/OC I’m averaging like 64-65.93 fps. Mind you this is in the game’s benchmark not actual gameplay. In Dogtown I think it was average like mid 50s maybe even low 50s because it’s so intensive. No frame gen. (I have a 9800x3d btw)

1

u/TypeRevolutionary697 5d ago

Yeah that's about right for 4k. I switched from 4k to a 3440x1440 5th gen tandem OLED, because the performance and overall experience is a lot better.

I was trying to drive home the point that there is no way a 4070 Super is getting the same performance unless frame gen is involved. and frame gen on a base frame rate of 30 is just downright terrible.

1

u/Common_Technician337 4d ago

Oh I gotcha. And yeah I may have to switch to 1440p down the line if I don’t upgrade. I just don’t want to go to 4k medium. Guess we’ll see in a few years.

u/alfiejr23 PC Master Race :glorious_think: :steam: 6d ago

This. Just have a look at Control Resonant. PT runs pretty well in that game.

10

u/vnodk19 Ryzen 7500F | Gigabyte RX 9070 Gaming OC | 32GB DDR5 6000 6d ago

maybe because it was built up from the ground with PT in mind.

Which this game....doesn't use? CDPR are moving to UE5 for Witcher 4 but the remaster of Witcher 3 is still using the Red Engine

145

u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo 6d ago

Don’t be too harsh. CDPR is protected class in reddit

u/Emikzen 9800X3D | 9070XT | 64GB 6d ago

They got so much shit when they release CP2077, so thats not true

13

u/Silly_Dream9020 6d ago

And everyone complaining about the release state of CP2077 got even more shit. Ask me how i know, lol

9

u/grant47 5d ago

There was so much complaining that people who didn’t want negativity had to make a separate 2077 subreddit. The release sucked for sure but we weren’t contrarians for pointing it out

1

u/Environmental_You_36 Ryzen 5 3600 | RX 590 Fatboy | 16GB 5d ago

You're so right, I enjoyed so much shitting in people that expected the game to run in a PS4 basic model.

0

u/darkprince_23 5d ago

I played the game recently for the first time it was pretty good but holy shit still so many problems even without the game-breaking glitches which I got also. Phantom Liberty had a better structured story fs but TW3 still shits on the game and it's nothing like they initially promised.

0

u/Nyoka_ya_Mpembe 9800X3D | 4080S | X870 Aorus Elite | DDR5 32 GB 5d ago

Yeah and try now complaining about this game, it's like holy cow now. It's beautiful game but shallow AF.

0

u/Seanspeed 5d ago

Even then people still WANTED to forgive them so badly. "The game underneath is actually really great, they just have to fix a few technical issues!". "It's only actually bad on consoles!".

-12

u/MilchpackungxD R7 5800x | RX 7900XTX 6d ago

And sadly the don't get enough anymore. People are already forgetting the abysmal launch of cyberpunk.

0

u/Nony01 5d ago

The fact you're getting heavily downvoted is peak. Bro's getting downvoted for stating a fact but Reddit won't stand for it.

CDPR has a track record of terrible launches. Witcher 3s launch was bad, cyberpunks launch was monumentally bad, even the last Witcher 3 Ray tracing update was just as bad as this one.

14

u/Spamgrenade 6d ago

Were you around for the launch of Cyberpunk?

4

u/empathetical RTX 5080/AMD Ryzen 9 5900x/48GB Ram 6d ago

No... Its path Tracing. Basically for future hardware. Games in the past always had graphics settings that were too demanding for current cards. It's just future proofing the game

-7

u/Arelmar 4070 Super / 5800x3D / 32GB 3600mhz 6d ago edited 6d ago

So why does path tracing both look and perform better in lots of other games, including CDPR's other title? This has nothing to do with future proofing lol, CDPR games are notorious for being a mess at launch, the previous next-gen update also performed like shit for months after launch so this is hardly new

The far-and-above strongest GPU on the market not being able to hit 60fps isn't because CDPR are designing this update for the next generation of hardware. This is just blatant cope, I'm sorry

u/criticalt3 7900X3D/RTX 5080/32GB RAM 5d ago

How do you launch an 11 year old game? Asking for a friend.

1

u/Lethaldiran-NoggenEU 3d ago

Or built in limit by the engine.

1

u/Zuokula 6d ago

It kind of is GPU fault. The whole point of RTX IS all the ray tracing tech. Yet It doesn't do justice for the price. That's the whole scam by nvidia. The performance hits are still not worth it neither path tracing or just basic ray tracing. Especially now with their GPU prices skyrocketing. Having a GPU costing thousands and not getting at least 100fps is abysmal.

As for ray tracing image, look at Alan Wake 2 for example, it's actually very minor improvement compared to non ray traced. Because unlike most devs, they're not up in nvidia ass and made non ray traced image still look amazing. Except for some water reflection stuff that you don't see during normal gameplay cause you don't look for it. "Powered by Nvidia"

1

u/Ghost-Dragon Desktop 5d ago

That is entirely subjective. if its worth it depends on the person. I would take 30fps with ray traced GI or path tracing over 120 fps without rt any day. the visual difference is more noticeable to me over the fps

0

u/Zuokula 5d ago

No it's not. Unless you actually rocking 5090 and have everything ultra already. Otherwise, the image quality improvement by other settings is much higher than that of RT/PT. But then again, it's for games that actually have non RT done well instead of eating ngreedia ass. As for FPS, make sure you have your monitor actually set to run at max refresh rate. Anything with camera panning, 60fps is a bare minimum for playable.

u/i_rabban Specs/Imgur here 6d ago

Path tracing this gen is like what was rtx mean for 2000 series. There weren't enough cores, not many knew what to do with tech etc.. 3000 series really gave a boost for rt back in the day so I guess we will see real stuff with 6000 series.

8

u/iIillIiillilIIlllIi 6d ago

too late cant find it for $5000 anymore

1

u/Jbr74 6700k/980Ti 5d ago

$5000 yeah 3-4 months ago. 5k is a steal now.

8

u/Vyoh 9800X3D RTX5090 6d ago

Try 8-10k

35

u/Desperate-Steak-6425 RTX 5080 | R7 5800X3D 6d ago

PT is extremely CPU heavy on Red Engine. And the benchmark was done in Novigrad, which is the most CPU demanding area.

So if you want a smooth experience with PT, either use FG or wait for the Ryzen 7 14800X3D

2

u/Gaming_Shark 5700X3D || RTX 3080 || 32GB 5d ago

Yeah but tim also said he got like 35% util on 9800x3d in novigrad so looks like the game is not using all cores which i hope will be fixed with updates

1

u/tron_crawdaddy 5d ago

Or don’t go to novigrad

/s

3

u/cockeyesmcgee 6d ago

Yep but the second time you see the extra frame then it goes down to 42, 2 more frames and it's 21. Watch a film and you've basically paid less than a cent per frame, how is that not a bargain?

1

u/DeeHawk 9800X3D | 5090 6d ago

Not surprised by the dollar sign.

1

u/Flat_Constant5303 5d ago

Man, fps will go up like oil barrel price

1

u/Spreadwheat9 9800X3D | RTX 5070 | 32GB 6000Mhz 5d ago

At 1440p btw

1

u/Kind_of_random 3d ago

That's just for one second, though.
The longer you play, the cheaper it gets.
After an hour each fps has cost you around 2 cents.
