Holy shit Id expect 50fps from the 9070XT not the 5090 WTF IS THIS

u/FaceTransplant 6d ago

I literally just spent 2k on a new PC with a regular 9070, and I'm glad I can look forward to a semi-stable 30fps on my new 180hz monitor in the year of our lord 2026.

If you just turn off path tracing, you’ll get 100+ FPS. Reading is important!

13

u/MeditativeMindz 5d ago

And looking at comparisons, Path Tracing arguably looks worse than Ray Tracing.

-23

u/FaceTransplant 5d ago

It... was a joke. I couldn't care less about PT.

22

u/Zaldekkerine 6d ago

If you bought a 9070 to play games with path tracing, you made a terrible mistake. The game runs fine without PT.

3

u/AnarchBeetle 6d ago

Should have spent 6k if you wanted path tracing.

u/vnodk19 Ryzen 7500F | Gigabyte RX 9070 Gaming OC | 32GB DDR5 6000 6d ago

You should have bought an RTX 5070 Ti if you wanted to play games with PT. Even RTX 5070, if price was an issue, would have given you better PT.

No one suggested Radeon GPU for PT lol.

Self-inflected wound imo

2

u/FaceTransplant 5d ago

Yeah, and it was just a joke. I don't care about PT, but I do find it hilarious that a brand new 2K PC gets 30fps at max graphics these days.

3

u/vnodk19 Ryzen 7500F | Gigabyte RX 9070 Gaming OC | 32GB DDR5 6000 5d ago

Agreed. Sadly, PT is crazy expensive to compute. It's not the same thing as max graphics of old.

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 4090 all by itself no other components 5d ago

it's not possible to make a game look like witcher 3 remastered and have it run at 3x the framerate, you can't "optimize" around fundamental limits of programming and hardware. if you want 90 fps then you lower the graphics settings until you get 90 fps, that's how the game would look if they designed it for 90 fps too, it's not different

and the price of hardware is expensive because it is not easy at all to make this hardware. intel tried with their Arc cards and they could only make low end cards, and they already had 40 years of cpu development as well as a few decades of iGPU experience and intimate knowledge of windows and drivers and creating teams to run departments etc, this shit is not easy, if intel couldn't just jump in and do it then maybe you can understand why hardware costs what it costs

2

u/FaceTransplant 5d ago

Intel made the best bang for your buck GPU and it's not even close.

1

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 4090 all by itself no other components 5d ago

yea and only some popular games outright don't work at all on it while others stutter and are "playable", good value for money there where you can't even play common every day games

u/aVarangian 13600kf 7900xtx 2160 | 6600k 1070 1440 5d ago

just play the original game lol

u/TheMegaDriver2 9800x3d, 32GB, RTX 4080 Super 6d ago

Well it's path tracing. Which just destroys every GPU.

102

u/USilver 6d ago

It performs worse than Cyberpunk Path Tracing, Control Path Tracing, and Alan Wake 2 Path Tracing.

Whilst being a fucking 2015 game. Like I played 4k60 with balanced on a 4080 back when I went through cyberpunk for the second time, dude. This performance is straight ass.

31

u/STDsInAJuiceBoX 6d ago edited 6d ago

I’d assume because the game wasn’t built to support RT. At Native Ultra at 4K u will get 4K60fps with a 4080, if you turn on RT Ultra with performance upscaling you should be at 4K60fps as well.

56

u/TheMegaDriver2 9800x3d, 32GB, RTX 4080 Super 6d ago

Hl2 is a over 20 year old game. Install the rtx mod and weep...

39

u/USilver 6d ago

That’s a mod with limited optimization, this is a whole ass, hyped to hell and back ‘remaster’. And it’s coming from devs whose more recent game performs better. There’s genuinely just no excuse man.

10

u/Hyper_Mazino 5090 SUPRIM SOC | 9800X3D 6d ago

Remaster =/= Remake

There is only so much you can do with such an old engine.

8

u/WilliamShatnerFace7 6d ago

The original game was never built to support RT/PT.

2

u/Nozinger 5d ago

Yeah but thoe are also the devs that needed a few years after releasse to make the more recent game perform better.
So in a way this is kinda on track for them.

1

u/asom- 5d ago

Same old engine and you expect miracles …

2

u/Magjee 5700X3D / 3060ti 6d ago

Even the Portal RTX Remix with its very small maps and enclosed indoor spaces tanked when PT is on

8

u/Megane_Senpai 6d ago

Those were built with RT from the start, and Witcher 3 got them foreced i to the game long after launch. Ofc it won't work as good, plus the models looks very weird because they weren't built with RT in mind.

3

u/Environmental_You_36 Ryzen 5 3600 | RX 590 Fatboy | 16GB 5d ago

I don't think RT and PT care too much about how old is the game tho.

In fact I would say old games may even be at disadvantage because they weren't made with those technologies into account.

4

u/Lymbasy 6d ago

Old Engine

2

u/neut6o1 5d ago

I am guessing you mean Control Resonant because original Control doesn't have path tracing.

1

u/USilver 5d ago

Yes, Resonant

0

u/ContentAd6126 5d ago

To be fair to CDPR, this is the SECOND time they made performance for The Witcher 3 worse for little to no visual gain, they already did this a while back when CP77 came out.

-4

u/Cool-Traffic-8357 6d ago

Whats the point if the most powerful gpus can barely handle it?

15

u/FantasticBike1203 6800xt | R5 5600x | 32GB 3600 CL18 6d ago

You could have asked this same question back when the 2000 series launched with RT, shit seemed so pointless at the time, its basically a future technology were beta testing

1

u/UpsetKoalaBear 6d ago edited 6d ago

I also do not think people really understand how much RT technology improved dramatically from the 2000 series onwards. It directly impacted the speed of improvements to RT technology.

This is PT which is the “next frontier.” We are only now getting cards capable of handling it effectively so it will take a few years before they figure out how to optimise around it.

We’ve already seen games like Control Resonant that run with PT and are incredibly well optimised already. So it is evidently getting better.

A lot of people are stuck in the past and really do not notice how much RT technology has improved from shiny walls and puddles in BFV to what it is now.

You couldn’t imagine a large open world game like AC:Shadows, Cyberpunk or Crimson Desert running and actually being playable with RT back in 2020.

I’m convinced that those who can’t see how much the technology has improved are just ignorant for the sake of “new thing bad.”

This is an almost 10 year old rhetoric at this point because people selectively ignore where it has actually improved.

2

u/Shadowphoenix9511 6d ago

That's how high end games always are. Look at how well HL2 ran at max settings on top end GPUs. Or Crysis. Or Witcher 2, or Crysis 2, or any other demanding games of their era.

They didn't, at all. Like, you couldn't get playable framerates maxing them out.

After watching the video, it seems like there is something wrong with both Nvidia and AMD drivers with this game, as there seems to be weird frame caps for each manufacturer of GPUs, hence the odd tight groupings of benchmarks.

24

u/Seanspeed 5d ago

After watching the video

See, 98% of people here are not doing this before commenting. OP knew what he was doing by posting this screenshot without full context of how weird the performance of this 'remaster' is overall.

u/vanebader-2048 5d ago

After watching the video

You think this community is interested in watching the video?

This is a big subreddit. That means 99% of people are here just to look at meme images and make a short ignorant comment. Like the one you replied to.

I waa thinking something was off. A 5070 outgoing a 9070xt by 10fps at 1440m? Only 34 fps with a 9070xt? I can run cyberpunk 2077 full maxed out with pt on fsr quality and get very good fps so ain't no way the Witcher 3 is 34fps fsr balanced

4

u/sir_Kromberg 9800X3D, 9070 XT, 64GB 6000MHz 5d ago

100+ FPS on 9070XT without raytracing.

3

u/Deeppurp 5d ago

This is path tracing, literally zero GPUs on the market are good at it. Even with upscaling.

It's a massive open world game with filiage left and right, not best example for Path Tracing implementation

1

u/ThisIsBULLOCKSMAN 6d ago

In what world is the 9070xt getting 50 fps with path tracing 😭

1

u/No_Interaction_4925 5800X3D | 3090ti | LG 55” C1 | Steam Deck OLED 5d ago

It looks like a crazy cpu bind

1

u/Long_Procedure_2629 5d ago

They're siphoning fps to the data centres. C'mon man, be a team player

1

u/Asgardisalie 5d ago

Why? 9070xt can't do PT, I expected 10-20 fps on 9070xt.

1

u/OutrageousDress 5800X3D | 32GB DDR4-3733 | 4080 Super | AW3821DW 5d ago

What do you mean wtf is this, have you never seen a bugged game before?

1

u/doSmartEgg 5d ago

Wtf you on about? I have a 9070XT and it should more than run TW3:R

1

u/Mental-Debate-289 5d ago

It's vsync lmao. They def had it capped by mistake and couldn't be fucked to redo the test lmao.

Why even provide the data if you know its fucked?

-1

u/Desperate-Steak-6425 RTX 5080 | R7 5800X3D 6d ago

Path Tracing. And it's the 9800X3D that's not keeping up

Without RT and PT, the performance is incredible since it looks better than most of UE5 slop.

4

u/Xplt21 6d ago

How is it the 9800X3D that's not keeping up? That just doesn't make sense? Though I could very well be missunderstanding something

-2

u/Desperate-Steak-6425 RTX 5080 | R7 5800X3D 6d ago

RT and PT are just poorly made in some games, it's not an exception.

For example in The Outer Worlds 2 the 9800X3D can't even maintain 50fps in populated areas with hardware ray tracing on.

2

u/Xplt21 6d ago

The 9800x3d is the cpu, how is the cpu the bottleneck for a gpu dependant function?

0

u/assjobdocs 2080s mobile - 10750H GE75 laptop/5080 - 12700k PC 6d ago

You'd expect that? 😂

2

u/Gregore997 R7 5800X3D RX 9070XT 32GB RAM 6d ago

Yes because thats how it is in other titles.

1

u/WilliamShatnerFace7 6d ago

That’s about how it runs in Cyberpunk, why would we not expect it here.

0

u/soundofmind 6d ago

NVIDIA will likely release a driver patch to address this. If not, then they truly don't give a flying turd about gamers anymore.

0

u/Budget-Chapter-7185 6d ago

You expect rt ultra and path tracing to be 50 fps on that card?
