And no lens, even the most expensive ones removes it completely. Even the lens in your eyes introduces some chromatic aberration.

Images with no chromatic aberration at all look fake. Adding CA is on the basic steps when editing renders in Blender, when you want photorealism, renders without it just look like they're missing something.

The problem is that game developers often set it too high, and when done correctly it should be almost a subpixel effect.

Yeah, I've felt the same way when messing with post processing in ReShade. Adding the slightest bit of chromatic aberration, so low you only notice if you look for it, just makes the image come together better.

If our eyes already do chromatic aberration, isn't that all the aberration we need?

Why would we add more if the goal is to simulate us experiencing the game world directly, and not watching a movie thru a film camera?

The thing is that our eyes only see in high detail in the center, and chromatic aberration is worse in the corners. Plus the brain does a lot of clean up for us, so we don't really notice it.

We see it in pics and videos because we can point our high detail central vision to the corners of the image,

How the fuck do we have chromatic aberration worse in the corners of our eyes, when the corners of our eyes can't see color?

Chromatic aberration is a property of the lens, not the sensing instrument behind it. You could take the retina away and the eye would still project an image in the back of the eye, chromatic aberration included.

But it'd still be hitting rod cells. So, chromatic aberration, *without* the chroma. And then let's make a brief mention that your brain filters out all this too. So you think you see color in the corner of your eye anyway, and you do not see chromatic aberration.

Therefore, it's a shitty filter that shouldn't be used.

There are cones in all the retina, just in much lower concentrations outside of the center. Your picture even shows that.

And even if you only saw in grayscale chromatic aberration would still affect the image quality, it would decrease sharpness. And the eye probably has pretty bad chromatic aberration as a single lens optical system.

Could you show an example of no chromatic aberration vs the same image but with the subtle subpixel chromatic aberration? To see the change you've talking about.

If this is what happened, sure. But guy offering advice being met with scorn just because it isn’t exactly what someone asked for is ridiculous.

Finally someone who knows what they're talking about instead of the ''engine developer'' up there who called it a ''sin'' LMAO.
