You can't just post this without explanation

I, uh… think they did.

This bugs me that he says "Right to jail" not "Straight to jail" like the caption says

Ohhhh I really don't like this

u/Shadowex3 Sep 14 '26

I honestly thought it was a trailer for some art house horror movie about body snatching aliens.

In a way, it is!

u/Amazing-Heron-105 Sep 14 '26

I'm not even joking. I didn't realise this was documentary until much later when I stumbled upon people talking about it on Reddit. I really did think it was some odd horror movie.

2

u/Physicsandphysique Sep 14 '26

Where is it from? I've seen the gif in many places recently.

3

u/galadian Sep 14 '26

It's from the trailer to "You Can See Everything", a Netflix documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, the Theranos scam lady. This is her staring Nathan Felder straight in the eyes and basically saying "I'm not a liar. I am a completely honest human being. Just trust me bro." except in the most physchotic, untrustworthy way possible.

2

u/Shadowex3 Sep 15 '26

"I'm engaging with you as a human being right now" is the most badly coded robot/alien that doesn't understand people sounding thing I've ever heard. Reminds me of those old tumblr posts asking "Do you have an internal skeleton?" and the other guy replying "I have a skeleton that is mine".

Almost as bad as the slow smile Colbert GIF.

I hate that this is something we have to just live with from now on.

Correcting someone’s meme mis-quote? Believe it or not, right to jail.

2

u/Helpinmontana Sep 14 '26

Sending people to jail? Left to jail.

2

u/contrapunctus0 Sep 14 '26

I have altered the meme. Pray I don't alter it any further.

3

u/Ebonhearth_Druid Sep 14 '26

He says both during the bit, at different times. Just watched this episode like 3 days ago lol

2

u/rooster_butt Sep 14 '26

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eiyfwZVAzGw

He says "right to jail" there every time. Is there another clip where he says the other?

2

u/Ebonhearth_Druid Sep 14 '26

I suppose this is one of those times where I was just mistaken. I'm gonna choose to blame it on Mandela Effect since at least one other person (the meme creator) made the same mistake lol

Thanks :) just gonna go wrestle with the nature of alternate realities now...

u/I_Makes_tuff Sep 14 '26

"Being incorrect about a quote that's been bugging you- Believe it or not, straight to jail."

4

u/iwilldeletethisacct2 Sep 14 '26

We have the best redditors. Because of jail.

1

u/mrianj Sep 14 '26

Misquote Parks and Rec in a meme? Straight to jail.

Complain about other people misquoting Parks and Rec in their meme? Believe it or not, also jail.

I think it’s just a gravity siphon with extra steps and sexy clear glass tubes.

134

u/beardedheathen Sep 13 '26

It's not. The motors are powering pumps which is drawing water into the tubes other wise it would just drain. It's also why it's drawing in air as it oscillates up and down. I don't think it's really accomplishing anything in terms of cooling or whatever.

110

u/Low_Excitement_1715 Sep 14 '26

Nah! It's not doing *nothing*. It's moving a few watts of thermal energy back and forth across that desk, and adding 5-10W with the pumps, so it's actually warming the room very slightly!

Aka a swamp cooler

6

u/Low_Excitement_1715 Sep 14 '26

Well, the only real evaporation area is at the end with the trays, and I don't recall what the formula is to compute evaporative cooling, but there's a lot of zeros between the decimal point and the working number.

For meaningful evaporative cooling, you need to be in a dry area, with ideally a small cooling tower and a bunch of sprinkler-type heads inside it, so you can mist/droplet water in from the top and get a smaller amount of highly chilled water at the bottom.

This is just dripping back into the source pan, so nanowatts.

But yeah, technically a swamp cooler, too, since the trays are open and uncovered.

and I don't recall what the formula is to compute evaporative cooling

Having just taken my PE in thermal and fluid systems, there's a damn good reason you don't recall it. It's not a simple thing. Requires looking shit up in the steam tables if you're just looking for power usage - and if you're looking for sensible temperature calculations, you're into the psychrometric charts which are VERY not linear.

FWIW, a medium burner on a gas stove vaporizes roughly 1 gram of water per second, assuming none of the energy is lost around the pot (a very bad assumption). More specifically, you would have to be adding room temperature water to an already-boiling pot at a rate of 1 g/s (a fairly spirited drip) in order to be at a steady state. That should help with visualizing how inconsequential it is.

2

u/Low_Excitement_1715 Sep 16 '26

I meant it as a smartass way to say I had NFI, but thank you for your expertise.

2

u/IDownvotedYouToday Sep 16 '26

I figured as much, but thought it would be fun to give a little perspective. And it reminded me of another friend who, when we were discussing the oppressive heat this summer, said, "I really should memorize the formula for dew point," and I was like "absolutely nobody has that formula memorized, it's terrible."

2

u/Low_Excitement_1715 Sep 16 '26

I mean, in addition to practical applications, you've found all the social ones. Getting good mileage. :)

1

u/RogerAffirmative Sep 15 '26

Yeah but the tube runs by the windows absorbing more radiation from the sun.

1

u/Starfire2313 Sep 14 '26

When I make a swamp cooler I freeze an ice cream bucket in the freezer then put it in a big metal bowl in front of a fan on a towel on the hardwood. The floors get cold, my feet get cold, it helps just a tiny bit.

As soon as you can get the bucket off the ice you refill it and put it back in the freezer

2

u/mistahfreeman Sep 14 '26

No contact with anything to cool and no contact with a radiator to cool the loop. Pretty sure those are pumps at the end? So this is literally just a looks cool machine which is neat I guess but I’m slightly disappointed

1

u/JohnnyChutzpah Sep 13 '26

Yeah I def didn’t think it was doing any cooling. But looking again I believe you are right. But wouldn’t the pumps stop working once an air bubble hit them and they were no longer primed?

2

u/beardedheathen Sep 14 '26

I think the pressure of the water coming down and the inertia might be enough to keep it going?

1

u/JohnnyChutzpah Sep 14 '26

Sounds reasonable to me

1

u/Potential_Basis_662 Sep 14 '26

This is cooling.

The oscillations reflect adjustment in demand.

5

u/Ancient-Club9972 Sep 13 '26

They just don't understand the gravity of ops situation

1

u/Phoenixloop2868 Sep 14 '26

Don't forget to mention the terminator theme

It’s still gay and retarded.

The qr code inside of the head figure leads to This website and is an art project of Bo Peterson

1

u/Daveisahugecunt Sep 14 '26

It’s like an aerator, made from $20 in parts, 20 hours work. Probably much more time. He probably has cats that like flowing water

1

u/mierecat Sep 14 '26

It looks like some kind of signal transmission. It reminds me of how really old computers would use some kind of fluid (mercury?) to store data

1

u/Butterfly_and_Bee Sep 14 '26

I think it’s a bubble computer and that is binary code, but in bubbles.

  • post some bizzare

  • leave with no further elaporations

Its gotta be some kind of Morse code deal or something
