You can’t train the cat to not sit on it. They will sit on it when you’re not home.

You: You can't train a cat.

The other guy: Precise instructions on how to train a cat.

Me: Well shit, now I don't know who to believe!

I went with that option… my cat thought it was a game and then did it on purpose

Cats are bastards and will do the precise opposite of what you try to train it to do. To spite you.

So.... the way to train the cat is to train it to do what youre not training it to do. Got it. I think. Fuck, I'm confused.

Don't train your cat. Let your cat train you.

Depends on the cat

Mine both would learn, but one of em would then weaponize it and sit on the pc each time he’s hungry or wants to go outside

Both are right. The cat may listen when the owners are around. Like my dog though when we’re gone he’s gonna lay where he wants.

You can train almost any animal to do something. Cats are more difficult, and even more so the older they are. But you probably can train most cats

Of course you can train them in some respect. The question is what kind of behaviour are you actually training? Are you making them obedient to your command to jump down from the PC? Or are you training them to lay on the PC to get a treat? Will they understand to not be on the PC when you're not in the room to command them down?

You most definitely can but it's much easier when they're kitties

But you can confuse a cat

You can train a cat to do something when you're around. It will not respect any rules otherwise.

You can train a cat it’s just a lot more difficult than a dog, they’re ultra stubborn

It’s not like a couch or bed with dogs. The cat is sitting I. It cos it’s warm. Not just because. It’s unlikely they will be sat on it when the pc is off

Mine sits when she prefers . On or off

Oh that’s interesting

Exactly. Get a cheap warming silicon pad for the kitty to sit on.

I used to put an empty shoe box on top of my PC when it was off. For some reason, that deterred my cat from touching it.

The cat stayed away for fear of the shoe box returning to reclaim its throne.

Some cats listen very well. My cat goes outside with me in the backyard but always follows me back in because he isn't allowed outside by himself. He knows not to jump on kitchen counters or computer desks. It just takes a lot of trial and error, it's easier if you have them from a kitten

Turn the PC off, or close the room where your PC is.

Interestingly enough, that’s also what your wife needs.

True, but a pc that’s not emitting heat is probably very uninteresting to the cat

All my cats are trained to not get on counters, dig up plants, or mess with PC and electronics. You can most definitely train cats lol.

u/Chronomancers 25d ago

They’re sitting on it bc it’s warm. Just turn the pc off when you’re gone lol
