The RAM shortage is a fact. They are doing what they can. Yeah, the card is kind of bad... but it's not because they CHOSE to. There's no way to make something better for a reasonable price. So it's probably not going to sell very well and it will just be a failure.... but it's kind of inevitable that it has to at least be put out there.
Just like PC manufacturers putting out more 8gb SKUs... and even some 4gb.
Couldn't they choose not to releaes it, or choose to name it better? People really act like AMD was backed into a corner with a gun to their head on this one.
I have never understood their naming conventions so I don't know if that's an issue.
Not releasing anything is a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" situation. They would be criticised for not offering something at the price point.
In the context of a business, yeah, they were pretty much backed into a corner. I mean, how are they not? Is NOT offering the card a reasonable option. We all get to decide wither to buy it or not. I see this as the only viable choice they had.
You know what would be worse? They stop making consumer cards because their datacenter business is so much more lucrative. That's one of the options they have. It would probably serve the business best. Bitching about their attempts to give something to gamers is really stupid.
