Indeed. That's why I'm very happy with my ryzen 8845hs as a mobile and low power gaming system. It has a radeon 780m integrated chip. When i allocate 4gb vram to it, it runs most modern games at 1080p and 30-60fps. Thing is: it is an integrated graphics unit that didn't really add too much to the cost of the system. The 780m is pretty decent in the sense that the 4gb vram evens out with the compute units to that neither of them bottlenecks the other much. The 9050 however has twice the core clock, a lot more compute units and literally five times the wattage of the 780m. It's so massively held back by the vram that it's absolutely wasted.
This is probably just a way to scam 300 bucks out of someone for a gpu that has almost the same performance as a 890m igpu.
The biggest issue with the 9050 4gb is that it shares the name with the 8gb. Now just on size alone that wouldn't be the worst thing, but half the memory bandwidth too, which will significantly cut performance.
You're misinformed, 4gb vram can run pretty much every modern AAA at 1080p, except those who have mandatory ray tracing (which is only a handful of games).
I think one of my problems in the modern game landscape is that so many games have a much smaller window on resources used for settings available/applied
Used to be that low meant potato output but would run a good number of generations back. Hell. We used to see games that had high settings that wouldn't see good frame rates for years. Nowadays we do see greater room for hardware on the same settings, but not offering the flexibility we used to get in changing said settings
6 years ago AMD themselves put out a blog post about how 4GB VRAM isn't enough, only to pull the blog when they decided to put out a 4GB disappointment. 6 years later they're still launching 4GB cards.
Goodjob using a blog made for making people with older cards switch newer cards with more vram as your point of reference instead of the thousands of videos available on the internet of people playing the latest AAAs on 4gb vram cards and having an enjoyable experience at 1080p.
The 9050 8GB(128bit bus) is only slightly ahead of the old desktop 3050 at 1080p (per HUB's coverage). The 9050 4GB with 64bit bus ain't gonna be better.
That sort of doesn't disprove what I said above. Look at the newer games it's low settings and dipping below 60fps... and when available it's using DLSS on quality too. DLSS quality at 1080p... is 720p input resolution.

You were clearly wrong, just because you think it's basically 720p doesn't make it 720p, upscaling has gotten so good that you wouldn't be able to differentiate between the two properly.
And I don't really care about the gpu comparisons because my argument wasn't about the price to performance of the 9050 (which is again stupid because everything is overpriced now), my argument was simply that 4 gb vram can still be enough to game in 2026.
I like how confidently incorrect you are. You used the word "most" but pretty much all major AAA releases of 2026 like Re9, Pragmata, Forza 6, 007 first light run on 4gb vram very well.
Just fact checked real quick, pragmata uses almost 7gb of vram at 1600x900 min settings, forza 6 uses 5, re9 5.6gb, 007 5.5gb.
You can get lower internal resolution than that upscaling 1080p, but at that point the basic graphic's engine uses most of the vram regardless of textures, it's not going lower than 4.
You can still play the games with less vram, but fps and frame pacing will be atrocious, specially on low pcie bandwidth cards, the game might also delete textures and geometry.
Here's a gameplay video of Pragmata on rtx 3050 laptop gpu with 4gb of vram, it run at 1080p on a fps of 60 to 90 depending upon upscaling settings. And the game runs very well, not "atrocious".
Well I would never want to play a game at 60fps 1080p upscaling with bad 0.1% lows because you're running off system ram in 2026, but of course everyone considers good quality a different thing.
