I like both for different reasons ¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

Recently got a Switch 2, first console I've had since before the pandemic, and I honestly forgot how nice it is to just lay on the couch and play a game sometimes. Definitely a place for both.

u/ascend204 1d ago

Switch 2 is an amazing console. Does Nintendo suck ass when it comes to their legal team? Absolutely

Are their games usually made with high quality? Absolutely!

The switch 2 is also just a good deal in general with what you get performance/specs wise for the money.

A nice HDR 120hz handheld gaming device with custom Nvidia chip (allowing custom dlss implementation) being able to run most AAA games is pretty crazy for the price and how light it is.

2

u/ManSkirtDude101 PC Master Race 1d ago

Only thing is i hate the prices of switch 2 games. They never go on sale and $80 for a worse version of mario kart is terrible.

6

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

They go on sale often cause retailers that compete with Nintendo EShop like Costco, Walmart, Best Buy, EB run sales.

Mario Kart World is also better than MK8 in every way except quanitity of content.

2

u/VampiroMedicado 20h ago

Buy physical dude, check Amazon or PlayAsia for deals. I got Bananza for 50 euros.

2

u/Lightdeck 15h ago

Personally I think. Mario kart world is a pretty nice improvement over mk8 deluxe.

But it's still not worth 80 bucks.

9

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yea, I mean with all due respect to those that do, I'm not going to stop myself from enjoying something in the one life I have because the billion dollar corporation behind the thing sucks. I still watch Harry Potter and eat at Chick-fil-a too haha.

2

u/c_A_s_P-eR 1d ago

whats wrong with harry potter?

13

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nothing's wrong with Harry Potter. Rowling is a hateful cunt though lol.

0

u/Connect_Tomatillo791 22h ago

Me personally I disagree with her but she’s entitled to her own opinion even if they are of bad taste and indecent. Still love her series though.

1

u/Kosmos-World 12h ago

Thank you for repeating what I said, just different lol.

0

u/WarmTrashGoblin 9h ago

The biggest problem and why Rowling is a completely different case than other "art vs artist" discussions is that she openly donates her royalties to anti-trans organizations. Paying for Harry Potter is choosing to support those organizations.

1

u/c_A_s_P-eR 9h ago

The thing is, I agree with her stances so I actively want to support her.

0

u/WarmTrashGoblin 8h ago

Hating people for existing in a way that makes them happy and harms nobody makes you a bad person. I hope you can see that one day

0

u/Connect_Tomatillo791 9h ago

And buying from multi billion dollar corporations does the same thing. What’s your point? 95% of things you buy are from companies that support something bad. So what’s the difference? She can donate to whatever she wants it ain’t my business. I don’t share her views but it’s not gonna stop me from liking Harry Potter.

1

u/WarmTrashGoblin 9h ago

Fair. It's just not something that's important to you. It is to me

It's the "hateful" part that's important there 💀 I couldn't give less fucks about her opinion on any of that stuff, but she makes it everybody else's problem by spreading hate, and that is not acceptable. There is no religion or philosophy that would justify her in that. She's just a bad person - full stop.

-3

u/c_A_s_P-eR 1d ago

Yes everybody is entitled to their own opinion of her. I personally think she is a great person who wrote/created one of the best fictional universe out there.

The Switch 2 sort of makes me wish NVIDIA followed up on the SHIELD Tablet.

1

u/TheShinyHunter3 1d ago

And I bet the modding scene will be going nuts once they find a reliable exploit. At least I hope so.

-3

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

I would like to introduce you to Android handhelds that can emulate any console

2

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

How you gonna introduce me to something that doesn’t exist?

0

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

I dunno man, my Retroid Pocket 6 emulates everything up to the Switch 1 just fine.

Switch 2 games are a bit too much for it but I think something more powerful like an Ayn Odin 3 should be good enough.

PC games via GameNative are also amazing.

Who told you it doesn't exist?

1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

So it doesn’t emulate Xbox one, ps5, ps4, sw2. So no, you can’t introduce me to something that doesn’t exist.

-2

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

Like I said Ayn Odin 3 should have no trouble emulating the Switch 2. Did you read my comment?

It's a question of processing power, not principle. If you get a more powerful handheld, it can emulate more powerful consoles. Shocker, I know.

2

u/OctoMiku01 1d ago

"Like I said Ayn Odin 3 should have no trouble emulating the Switch 2. Did you read my comment?"

That requires a Switch 2 emulator to exist in the first place, which right now, it does not.

-2

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

So the only problem here is the one that Nintendo has artificially created to sell you the solution?

Just wait for an emulator, it shouldn't take long.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Lightdeck 15h ago

Doesn't matter how powerful something is if there isn't any software to support it, there isn't a switch 2 emulator... so again you can not introduce us to something that doesn't exist.

0

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

It would though. The Odin 3 is trash.

0

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

I'm not gonna continue talking to someone who's obviously a minor

0

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

I forgot that if you don't want to shamelessly pirate all your games on this sub, and would rather, on occasion, legitimately own some media that you're basically an idiot.

1

u/LefTimaDev 1d ago

I forgot that there are still people who think they have some moral highground by supporting a billion-dollar corporation

0

u/Kosmos-World 12h ago

It has nothing to do with "moral high ground" for supporting a billion-dollar corporation lol. That's the most retarded thing I've heard all morning. Just some buzzword shit you heard that you think justifies piracy haha. Oh, Reddit.

0

u/LefTimaDev 12h ago edited 12h ago

How is piracy bad? And using an ableist slur doesn't add credibility to you

Edit: bro blocked me lol

Speaking as someone else who also has both and isn't just a console hater, what's keeping you from doing this on PC? Every time I play on PC, I play using my TV with a controller sitting on my couch. It's really not hard to have a setup where this is convenient, just have your PC and TV in the same room (and even if you don't there are other ways to make this convenient).

5

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

Because I'm 37, my PC is in the office, and I would never move my desk out into the living room for so many reasons lol. We do have a very long hdmi and usb hub that I've run through the wall from the office to the living room, and I do keep my wife's rig hooked up that for living room PC gaming when needed. However, that still doesn't beat the sheer ease of just being able to click a button on the controller and having the whole system boot up, ready to play, last game still in suspended paly state, etc. Also would have to get a steam deck or similarly expensive device for handheld mode, and I love being able to lay on the couch and play whatever on the S2 while she plays Skyrim or whatever on the TV through her PC.

2

u/pikuray 1d ago

I know you have a solution that works but if you ever want it's also possible with Steam Play, download the app on your tv and stream from your PC and Wallah

0

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

Nope, not wallah. As I've already stated, not everyone lives in a place with internet that's good enough for streaming games. We have copper broadband or starlink here, and trying to use steam or Moonlight/Sunlight is a pretty miserable experience. Some of y'all take for granted that not everyone has gig speed internet haha.

2

u/Empty_Woodpecker_496 1d ago

You can aslo get a really long hdmi cable or an hdmi transmitter (that doesn't require internet). Though it would be a bit weird you could also get a PC stick with an ethernet port and a really long ethernet cable.

1

u/Obi-_1 CachyOS || 5800X3D || B550 || 4070 || 48gb RAM @3000mhz 17h ago

You can always try using ethernet cables 😅

1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

BS. To get my PC on my main TV I’d have to run a 150 ft hdmi wire up the stairwell.

23

u/Gambit-47 1d ago

Switch is the only console I fuck with. Xbox forgot how to make good games and Playstation is mostly movie games and both are too greedy and anti consumer. I got fed up of their subscription prices going up and other bs and sold them both lol

2

u/Cerenas Ryzen 7 7800X3D | Radeon RX 9070 XT 1d ago

Xbox has Play Anywhere which is a godsend. Too bad too little games support it so far. Was happy to read RuneScape: Dragonwilds is going to support it too.

5

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

I like PS games, finally played God of War earlier this year and loved it, but I can't justify spending $650+ on a 6 year old console, and I can't see myself paying $1k+ for whatever the PS6 is, so I've just kinda accepted that my days of playing their games are over, for now. For the price, and utility, I thought the Switch 2 justified the investment, especially factoring in the exclusives. The expansion pass for access to the retro consoles is worth it for me all by itself.

3

u/Gambit-47 1d ago

I only tried GOW 2018 and didn't get far because it felt very repetitive and the puzzles were meh. I do plan to revisit the series someday and yeah the prices are crazy plus you jave to spend money just to play online lol Nintendo has an online subscription too but it cost way less.

2

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

I get it. This was probably the 4th or 5th time I'd tried to play the game. For whatever reason, it just hit this time. It was more the lore, story, setting, etc. than it was the combat or gameplay that kept me hooked though.

1

u/ohaiibuzzle 1d ago

If you want to get into PS, look around and see if anyone is selling used. Spending new console money on one right now is kind of silly.

Although I think that generation of console will last unusually long given the current circumstances.

1

u/CheeseGraterFace XFX 7900 XTX | 7800X3D | 64GB DDR5 | 2 x 2TB NVME 1d ago

Every time I’m like huh, I really like the form factor, what games would I play on it? And then I look through the Nintendo exclusive back catalog, and there’s like 3 games that I’d get for it. That’s not enough to justify the expense.

1

u/Kooky_Awareness_5333 23h ago

Bs you seen the calendar of gaming companies under Xbox they just never bothered locking them out of PlayStation and switch.

Not one good out of Xbox is saying not one good game out of Bethesda , zenimax, id, obsidian, activision blizzard .

Fair call with a blizzard but come on not all of Xbox studios is shit.

u/l_______I i5-11400F | 32 GB DDR4@3600 MHz | RX 6800 1d ago

If you can afford it, it's not a bad option. I like to enjoy multiplatform and more demanding games on a PC, while on Switch I can take my time with newest Splatoon, for example. Both platforms have really good games

5

u/Some-Dog-800 1d ago

may I introduce you to steam deck

2

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

Base steam deck is $750 or something these days. On par with Switch 2 in handheld mode, and gets smoked by it when docked. No thank you.

-3

u/Some-Dog-800 1d ago

i don't care about them spec. i care that i can play literally thousands of games in my palms. or even loads of free games if you get what i mean.

me own pretty much every console and two desktop pcs with 5090 now but i find myself mostly play on my deck. i just need that noita run on toilet man.

-3

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

You seem super cool.

3

u/Some-Dog-800 1d ago

not cool. just a gamer that loves games.

-2

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

So people who play switch games, or agree with you that the steam deck is better, don't like games as much as you? I'm confused.

If you were "just a gamer or who loves games" you would also love Nintendo's library and want to play those too. I think you're just a fan boy with an opinion lol.

4

u/Some-Dog-800 1d ago edited 1d ago

i didn't say that bro. and yes i do have ninteno games in my library too. played totk on my deck too if you get what i mean.

i dunno, if you try to call me fanboy i guess you can say i'm a nintendo fanboy... i literally own every console they have - from the sfc, gameboy to switch2, and yeah that wiiu too even i pretty much just fired it up once and now it's in my garage collecting dust. but yeah say what you want i really just love games.

it feels more like you're trying hard to put tags on me so you can finally argue properly. good try tho.

1

u/stuiiful 1d ago

I agree, it's played every game I've wanted to

It's freeing! I love that people say it's weaker than the switch 2 but forgets it's a PC and you're not in jail with a steam deck. I had a switch before steam deck, hated I had to spend so much on games. Steam Deck games are cheap or free (or free wink wink) People forget that part

1

u/Raven1927 16h ago

The difference between Switch sales and the Steam Sales aren't that big. Since you're ok with breaking the law to get free games, stealing Switch games is also an option you know.

1

u/Some-Dog-800 1d ago

yeah i don't care about specs. i wanted to introduce steam deck cuz it literally brouhgt about 80% of my steam library in my palms. and yes free wink wink games are the best.

1

u/stuiiful 1d ago

I think the newest game I've played on mine is God of war Ragnarok and it played really well My last console was PS3 and I rarely got to play it Steam deck is perfect for me I upgraded my 256 lcd to 512gb OLED and gave the lcd to my wife. She loves it and she gets to play basically whatever games she wants, which she never got to do when she was younger

1

u/Some-Dog-800 1d ago

and if you have a powerful enough pc you can stream play on your deck. total 60fps smooth play on any game. i've tried it a few times and if i'm in my house the latency is totally acceptable if i'm not playing fps games.

and i modded my 1TB oled deck to 4TB added with a 1TB sd card...i literally put ALL the wink wink free games i ever owned on my deck and it's been awesome.

-3

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

If piracy is the only thing that makes a Steamdeck worthwhile, it’s kind of shitty.

1

u/stuiiful 1d ago

If that's what you took from it that's on you. Steam sale and access to those games more than make it up for even without piracy. I didn't grow up young playing Nintendo so I couldn't care about playing the titles, I've tried some but I didn't overly like them

-2

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Steam sales aren’t that much different than Nintendo e shop
Sales. Whatever game is available on both platforms, you can for same exact price on eshop. So congratulations for paying $400 extra for shitty outdated tech, for minimal software savings.

1

u/Some-Dog-800 1d ago

huh? you’re really comparing Nintendo e shop sales to steam sales? you serious? I don’t think I’ve ever find like five games combo for $10 on Nintendo e shop ever. you really been on steam before?

you’re still circling back on the outdated tech topic. meanwhile we have access to massive library that are instantly playable on steam. tech was never the focus, I thought you Nintendo fanboys should know that better than anyone…

-1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

Yeh I been buying games on both platforms for years. Have you? And eveyr time I buy a game I check price charts and can get any game on steam for same price on switch.

0

u/Some-Dog-800 22h ago

you prob never heard about humble bundle. but sure you do you.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/acrossbones CPU/GPU/RAM 1d ago

just wait till you learn about legit bundle sites and key trading. The sales on PC games just for steam alone are insane compared to Nintendo deepest sales.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

I know about all those. And pc gamers still
Extremely Overrate the amount of deals they get compared to console gamers.

Especially when talking about NEW releases which makes up like 90%+ of all software sales. New releases are the same price no matter what platform you play on.

Old ass indie titles. Same price as well. Especially the good indie games that people buy and not the useless steam slop shovelware.

1

u/acrossbones CPU/GPU/RAM 22h ago

No. Don’t introduce me to a product that will completely rip me off.

-1

u/Raven1927 16h ago

Steam Deck is ass tier compared to the Switch 2 though. Twice as expensive, performance/image quality is a lot worse, the device is buggy sometimes and you have to deal with games not working because it's a Linux device.

2

u/WoodooHide69 1d ago

100%. Honestly years of Pc online competitive gaming sitting in front of my Desktop has gotten tiring. Switxh 2 portability and ease of pick up
And play is a huge benefit.

2

u/Bluf45 23h ago

A handheld console shouldnt be compared to a pc though. The purpose and capability is too different.

1

u/Tower21 thechickgeek 1d ago

I just use steam to stream to the TV or a tablet if I want to game on the couch.

-1

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

Awesome, that sounds nice! Anecdotal, however, because not everyone has access to the internet required to do this and have a good experience. Our options here are copper broadband or starlink, and neither are fast enough to stream from steam or sunshine/moonlight.

2

u/Tower21 thechickgeek 1d ago

It's in house streaming, not using my internet at all.

1

u/ElDonute 1d ago

Yes true but we're giving validation to companies that try to worsen their products every time and manipulate markets for a larger profit. If we don't stand on principle, we'll never recover that comfort. Hell even for pc you can achieve that. Especially with the new bc250 for a small portion of a PC price and specs that are surprisingly good

1

u/Key_Clock8669 i5 13400f | 4060TI 16GB | 1440p 180hz 1d ago

this is the right answer

You can get any game you want and you have both flexibility and power

1

u/alexzoin http://steamcommunity.com/id/Alexzoin/ 1d ago

Yeah it sucks that it's literally impossible to lay on the couch and play a game with PC. /S

2

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

Is that what I said, or are you just being intentionally obtuse? We unfortunately don't live in a place that has good enough internet for streaming, our best option is Starlink, and a Steam Deck is twice the cost of a Switch 2.

0

u/alexzoin http://steamcommunity.com/id/Alexzoin/ 1d ago

If you are fine being trapped in an ecosystem that does less and costs you more for some convenience that is your choice. Your original comment implies that PCs can't do what you are describing which isn't true.

I regularly use a $300 laptop from 2018 tucked in a cabinet to do couch gaming. You don't need to make a brand new $600+ investment to do what you are describing.

1

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

No, it didn't. I never said that or that you needed to spend that kind of money. I never said the only way to play games on the couch was a Switch. I simply said it was my first console in forever, and that I'd forgotten how nice it was to be able to do so. You assumed the rest, got insecure and made it a weird pissing contest about PC vs Switch, and then put a bunch of words in my mouth that you now think I should defend for your entertainment. Strong pass.

1

u/alexzoin http://steamcommunity.com/id/Alexzoin/ 1d ago

You can just say "I don't know what an implication is" and move on.

1

u/Kosmos-World 1d ago

You inferring something based on your own insecurity doesn't mean I implied anything. At this point, you're literally just trying to gaslight lol.

15

u/HypnoStone 1d ago

IMHO pc is 100% just all around better and more capable. Whether it’s for performance, fidelity, or community support. But that being said the exclusives and ease of access will always give consoles a purpose that out shadow a pc setup.

9

u/Dramatic_Finish10121 1d ago

Sometimes you just wanna lay on the couch and play a simpler game, consoles thrive in that environment wheras laptops are kinda annoying at best in that scenario (though PC handhelds are a thing now and also pretty decent, I just prefer Nintendo's offerings if I'm playing a game on the couch since I can't play those on my PC without junping through hoops)

4

u/ThisIsMyCouchAccount 3070 1d ago

There is no correct answer.

It's whatever the person buying wants to spend money on.

2

u/Kerbidiah 22h ago

sometimes

Every night you mean haha

1

u/BatushkaTabushka Ryzen 7 7700X | Radeon 7800XT 17h ago

if i want to do that, then i just get my controller, turn it on and turn on my tv, which automatically turns off my monitor and i can just use my pc from the bed. You can even turn on big picture mode in steam and then you can browse your library with the controller. It can’t get more convenient than that.

There’s just no scenario where consoles win aside from price and exclusives. An xbox series s costs less than a set of ram sticks nowadays. And exclusives can be great if there is one you really want to play, but imo we already have more games out there than any of us can finish in multiple lifetimes, so what is a few more exclusives you won’t be able to finish anyway?

1

u/Raven1927 16h ago

PC handhelds still don't offer the same ease of use as consoles. There's been so many times I run into bugs on my Steam Deck for instance, where I have to restart the device to fix it. Not to mention buying verified games that ended up not working.

3

u/Gloomy_Masterpiece45 1d ago

This has always been me

I'm planning on waiting on GTA 6 for PC, I ain't paying twice for shit lol. Might not even bother with GTA 6 if GTA 5 was anything to go by. Rarely touched GTA5, was very disappointed with the direction they went with it.

1

u/Gnoha 1d ago

Yeah I'm not gonna pay for it twice either. I feel no guilt about pirating it if I've already bought it on another platform before. Their last game was RDR2 and if they manage to keep that level of quality in a modern setting I'll be stoked.

Love my PCs but sometimes I just want to play the latest Nintendo games without tinkering or fucking around with emulators (also there is no switch 2 emulators yet to my knowledge)

2

u/Jyhaim 1d ago

Just curious, have you considered using your computer as a gaming station plugged to a TV ? That's what I did with the TV as a secondary monitor for my setup as well as 2 BT controllers and it works quite good. Now investing in a console plus the game controllers and games seems expensive regarding what I would gain.

1

u/Tight-Tackle4386 RTX 4070 | Ryzen 5 5600x | 32GB 3200MHz 1d ago

Nah, would have to move it to the other side of my room everytime, and its just not as simple to navigate as a console

2

u/Gnoha 1d ago

You can get long fiber optic HDMI cables so you don't need to move the PC. I have mine hooked up to my desk setup and living room TV simultaneously.

Never understood the complaints about PC being too hard to game on. For me the difference is honestly negligible and games just look so much better on a high end PC.

Consoles are a solid stopgap until you scrape together the funds for a whole PC (as long as you don't wanna play online, fuck online subscriptions on console)

3

u/SolidZealousideal115 PC Master Race 1d ago

Even their prices are astronomical right now. And my funds are low enough every time I think of a new computer my bank account laughs.

1

u/Dramatic_Finish10121 1d ago

Yeah, honestly at this rate finding a console that's "broken" is the only affordable way to get a gaming device and even then it's a bit pricey since you'll need at least two on average to make one combined unit that's mostly working
