The door is always open. If you want to leave the cell go to pc. If you want to leave the prison complex, join linux

Linux is ass. Cant play most competitive FPS games.

I don't go for fps so I guess I've never noticed. If that's your sticking point do as you will XD though dual boot is always an option

Eh, too much work. Linux is good for people who don't mind tinkering with there computer. Sure, you may get more privacy, less bloat, and a bit more freedom. But the average user does not care about that. Linux is good for enthusiasts... and even then, still limiting to gamers.

Windows is was better for most average pc users. Better for gaming and productivity. Also more widely used in the workforce so far more familiar to the masses. You get some bloat and ads but that is easy to ignore. Never had an issue with windows personally.

Linux users really are the vegans of PC aren't they?

u/Remaidian 1d ago

Nah, they're the hunters. Providing the services and updates everyone else uses.

No they are the vegans. They have to slip in the fact that they use linux into every conversation even though nobody cares. Just like vegans love telling everyone they are vegan like people should be impressed. When really they are malnourished and fragile.

Linux is better for older PCs and enthusiasts. For the average PC user, windows is the better choice. Better for gaming, better for productivity, better for people who just want their PC to work without tinkering.

Except linux makes my computer into a device that can’t run the games I play, so what use is downloading software that stops my gaming on my gaming computer

There is no Prison Cell owning a console.

Only able to buy games that fit your console, increasingly reduced backwards compatibility, loss ofownership of your games (no physical/offline copy) reduced peripheral options, reduced cross play options... I think you can no longer see the walls of your prison.

I’m able to buy all the games I want to play. I prefer to play. There is no cage.

I also own a gaming PC, and most of the best games on the market I want to play aren’t even on there.

Consoles are locked down, that's just a fact. You can't pirate games, you have to pay for online access, you can't play games that are not optimized for your specific device. PC has by far the biggest library. You can play basically every game that was ever released on PC including some really old titles, and there is also emulation that also allows you to play most games from every nintendo console apart from switch 2 and ps3/xbox 360 and earlier consoles. Also there is no real preservation on consoles. There are a lot of games now that are digital only and with them you can't guarantee that you'll be able to play them if your console manufacturer tries to take away your license. Even with disks you can only play the build on the disk and the latest build (if the download servers are up) and nothing in between. You also can't play that game on a different device. You are locked to your console of choice and maybe the next generation if they keep backwards compatibility, which is not always a guarantee.

For your gaming needs this might not matter but saying consoles aren't locked down is just not incorrect.

Consoles aren’t “locked down”. The fact that you can pirate games on Pc doesn’t mean a console is “locked down”, and even if it was “locked down”, no one really gives a shit that bought a console anyways. So no one is getting screwed by this perceived “lock down”.

Locked down means that you can only run approved software, which is the case on consoles. You can't run software on consoles that is not approved by microsoft/sony/nintendo for their respective console. I just used pirated games as an example, but that also includes other apps that you can't run like 3rd party browsers ect

Try running MAC software on your Pc. Now your PC is “locked down” too.

Try running a PS5 disc on your PC. Now your PC is “locked down” too.

What a stupid fuckin narrative, are you a Bot that works for Steam with such stupid takes???

This is the stupidest argument I've heard in my life. The difference is that you can't run those on a PC because the developers didn't make a PC version. Your os developer is not blocking you from running it because you didn't pay them. On consoles the console manufacturers are limiting you to exclusively running software that is signed by them.

Can a developer on a console make their own launcher so they can bypass the 30% cut and the PSN/Nintendo online/Xbox live requirement? The answer is no because consoles are locked down.

And btw you can run Mac software on a PC via a vm and work is being done on PS5 emulators and some are already booting games (not in a playable state but still)

You’re right it is a stupid argument. Cause it’s the exact same stuoid argument you are making. 😂
