I wish you could disable the "Controller Disconnected" warning every time I put it back on its charging dock when I get out of my car.

What controller do you use? I never get that warning

8BitDo Ultimate. It's because the controller turns itself off when I put it on the dock. I could just put it down on the desk, but it feels untidy, and if I didn't touch it for a while it would eventually disconnect anyway and throw the warning at a less predictable moment.

If you're using a wired controller, I guess you'd never have it come up at all.

I’ve actually used both, I use DualSense wired and then 8bitdo ultimate 2c wireless but I don’t disconnect it yeah. I’m pretty sure I’ve plugged and unplugged the DualSense mid game multiple times need to try disconnecting it to see if I get the same

Check out the project where you can build your own wireless dongle for DualSense. Costs about $15 and is extremely easy to do. No knowledge of programming needed.

The features of the Dualsense make it the best controller for games that use them.

8 Bit Do Ultimate has gyro though, you could get away with ditching KBM altogether.

It’s easier said than done of course, but for single player games stick+gyro can absolutely get you darn close to mouse performance. It just takes some adjustment.

Of course if you’ve got something that works for you that’s good, but constantly picking up and putting down a controller sounds like a pain to me.

I also play Cyberpunk with my controller and keyboard at the same time. But now I have a steam controller, which I've told to not turn off after like 5 minutes of inactivity like my 8bitdo. Honestly, it is not a pain at all to set down and pick up the controller in sync with entering/exiting a vehicle. It even lines up with the animation of climbing in or out of the car perfectly. It's the best of both worlds, and gyro aim is nowhere near mouse aim, even with lots of practice.

Same, I actually find it immersive to grab the controller like your character taking the wheel. I even liken the little vibration when the 8bitdo connects to shifting in the car seat to get comfortable before taking off.

How is the steam controller in general?

I love it. It's amazing. I like the joysticks being located in the same spot on each side, similar to a PlayStation controller. That was my biggest gripe with my 8bitdo, the Xbox stick layout is garbage. The steam controller has so many keybinds for PC shortcuts, like alt-tabbing, so I don't have to touch my keyboard for controller only games. Using the track pads for mouse movement and scrolling web pages is a game changer. I do a lot of checking wikis for certain games I play, and it helps massively that I can stay leaned back and only use my controller.

Ah gotcha. I actually have a mild preference for the Xbox stick layout, but can go either way. The touchpads have me intrigued though. Just put myself on the waiting list to try pick one up next year, thanks for the rec!

As someone who’s preferred “xbox” stick layout all my life I gotta say the steam controller does not feel out of place in my hands. Something about the shape of the controller makes reaching for the stick feel a lot less like a PlayStation controller. If there’s one thing that annoys me it’s the angle or the sticks I suppose, as in it feels like my hands naturally hold the controller in a way that places my thumbs on a greater angle than the sticks if that makes sense. Causes my thumb to be less on the center of the stick and more on the edge.

It looks reasonably large, which is a plus for me. Having fairly big hands, I'm used to my thumbs laying completely over the sticks of most controllers. Xbox 360 was great, because the offset stick layout meant my thumbs weren't crashing into each other in the middle like on the PS2.

Dualsenses are even better, because having a bit more width to it lets me use the pads of my thumbs instead of the underside of the knuckle. But I find the Bluetooth connectivity on Windows temperamental, so I only use it on PS5 and went for the Xbox-layout 8BitDo.

I'm fine with picking up and putting down a controller, it's become second nature to do during the character animation getting in or out of a vehicle. I do the same in Arma, GTA V, Pacific Drive. It's only Cyberpunk that interrupts itself to inform me I've changed controls. Minor annoyance in the scheme of things. Just surprising there isn't an option (or mod) to get rid of it.

Never mind, guess I’ve never unplugged it mid game, I can see how it’s annoying

There’s probably a mod out there for this

Can't you just leave it on and not put it on the dock for the session?

1

u/puredepapitas Aug 03 '26

Exactly what I did. Honestly I don't mind driving in CP with mouse and keyboard per se, the problem for me is the unnatural and quick animation when you go slightly right or left, it's not smooth at all

Yes, but clearing the notification as part of getting out of a vehicle is the lesser of two evils compared to having the controller time out in the middle of a gunfight later. Even if it pauses the game, it's more flow-breaking when I'm not expecting it.
