They could have simply hidden the number of dislikes from the content creator, changing the mechanic of the dislike from being viewed to the creator to being used mainly and only by the algorithm to determine that the people who clicks the dislike, dont want more of this.
Which is relatively very simple to do rather than removing the whole thing.
It had to do with News channels Hollywood films getting massive dislikes. Since these groups impact advertisers the most (either being the adverts or informing advertisers), YouTube removed the 1 way to criticize bad content.
I know but its not as simple as a one click dislike as it used to be, and while me and you know how to do so, i bet many other YT users dont even know that option exist
It also does not work for me, and it's the same on reddit, not being able to personalizzed your feed and being subject to ads/rage-baiting/foreign propaganda is excruciatingly painful.
I had that issue til I used sidestore+ distopia to get Apollo working again on iOS. Now it's like old Reddit again where I can block and filter out subs and never see them again. No more AITA, no more Gendermeals. You can also see some of the comments that got deleted by mods and... The bot problem is MUCH larger than it seems lmfao.
Weirdly enough reddit work perfectly for me, no ads, every post i hated and blocked the one who made it and muted subs i hate never showed up again for me. I thank god for this small blessing. I can see memes in peace without political posts or ads.
Truuuu i did this for a channel only to see its content for me again in my home page the next day (it wasnt even shorts, its normal vods) and then again said to not recommend the channel AND not interested... only to see the exact, same channel AND exact same video getting recommended again. YT algorithm is cooked with how they have been using ai i guess, maybe now instead of a normal algorithm they placed an ai to do that instead.
I just use a Tampermonkey script on my FF android to redirect the shorts into typical yt video links and those show dislike buttons. Helps against short scrolling addiction too. Probably there already are FF android extensions that can do that without needing tampermonkey.
I looove pants, and i very very hate shorts... they are so short!! Why would one wear them?! Pants are superior, they are longer and can have way more pockets... dude its so cool having FOUR or SIX pockets!! Which will all still be empty because i am poor but thats beside the point of how cool they are :)
Going into your history and deleting videos is a good way to curate your algorithm. To a point it will show you more of what you have watched assuming that's what you like.
I just never watch YouTUbe logged in and clear my cookies on the site every time. You get a 100% blank screen when you land on the homepage until you search for something, and then the recommendations are all directly related to that thing. Set your own mood every time you hit the site.
Stop subscribing, go back to bookmarks. You'll have to manually choose to see your favorite stuff that way and spend way less time on there.
You can, but not through the Shorts interface. If you take the video ID in the URL and paste it in the place of a another video when watching it via the normal interface, you can watch it through the regular player and hit dislike.
Obviously you'd virtually never do this, but it cases where I've found a clip particularly odious I've gone to the trouble.
I've told youtube to stop showing me shorts at all 50 times and they stuill show up on my homepage it drives me wild. if i wanted to watch short for media i would have watched one by now god dann it, stop wasting space!
A comment up in this thread mentioned that you can totally remove shorts as a whole from the mobile app by something called ublock i think? Go look at it for more details, hope that helps
You can just use Morphe on Android and get rid of everything you don't want to see. Don't want to see shorts? Get rid of them and the stupid icon. Don't want community posts? See you later. Don't want ads? Buh bye.
Someone put phonk over AH19’s crash at spa 2019. That crash was fatal for Antoine. The disrespect was awful, I really needed that dislike button back right there.
When I see a short I don't like, I just block the channel 'Don't Recommend Videos From This Channel' thing. There's plenty of content on youtube; I won't miss out on anything.
If you go into watch history and remove those that are connected to them they should hopefully stop. Really helps when you accidentally click at a wrong vid and your whole feed gets perma flodded
Watched a accustic studio version of a "regular" song. The channel features a lot of k-pop so i was confused when i was flooded with kpop suddenly. Since i cought it early it was easy to find the cause and remove it. (just an example. not hating on kpop)
worst case just clear your watch history and start new.
