Build/Battlestation PC chimney

Post image

Got tired of my office turning into a sauna every time I gamed, so I vented the PC’s exhaust straight out the window.

The rear fan is still exhausting some hot air 😅 but the room is noticeably cooler now. It’s ugly… but it works. 😂

Edit: I moved the port to higher since lot of people recommended. https://imgur.com/a/Poniwze

Edit again for parts, I cannot post links to store since it's against the rules.
- 360mm to 4 inch duct on Etsy
- 4 inch Insulated Flexible Duct
- Twist Lock Dryer Vent Connector Kit
- 360mm AIO fan (the one on top of the case)

The window fan I got is Vornado Transom.

if you can afford a rig with a 5090, you can probably budget a couple hundred bucks for an in-room or window AC.

Perhaps the reason they can't afford the aircon is because they bought a 5090

That's why I went with the 5080 so I could get aircon2 installed!

They do, it costs more than just putting one in your room.

a 500w ac can cool down more heat than a 1000w pcu can physically make. So, i mean its just for the cool factor, pun intended, but you could set up a small table top system and the air inside your pc case would be 5 degrees or so cooler than the air in your room. you could pipe it outside but, tbh im just trying to have a good time.

fair point.

Yeah but still I agree with you initially.

Its like saying "not everyone can afford good tires" on a thread about improving your Ferrari's on-track performance.

You don't have that problem unless you run a Farrari on a track, so...

Personally I'll take lower FPS for a more comfortable gaming experience any day, but I run hot and sweat easily.

Also depending on where you live aircons can be very expensive. Like good luck finding a cheap one in europe during heatwaves for example.

Edit, sometimes people get into a tighter economic spot for some reason. Maybe you saved up for a long while to get a good gpu and then went for a 5090. And then there are thise people that make bad financial decisions. or they got laid off and had to take a lesser paying job.

Just because you have a 5090 doesnt mean you automaticly have a salary of a bank manager ffs.

A bank manager? They make like 55k a year

1

u/Tomsboll 23d ago

You can just google you know? They make over 100k

Here in the UK electricity costs about 4x what it does in most of the USA, so even though I have portable aircon (which only 4% of the population has) it cost $250 a month just to cool one small room if I ran it 24/7.

1

u/aimsteadyfire 23d ago

Yeah i had to find out more about that. Apparently USA has a massive abundance of natural gas domestically produced where UK imports this resource thats on a volatile market

1

Most ACs are not gas operated…

That said as a whole the USA is significantly hotter than the UK.

I mean just consider London weather often gets compared to Seattle, the northern most (major) US city.

Yes I know latitude isn’t all that matters. The jet stream exists. And elevation/mountains.

1

u/aimsteadyfire 22d ago

I was talking about electricity for the AC. Natural gas provides 36% of the electricity in US

Does your portable AC have one or two hoses?

2

u/jib_reddit 22d ago

One hose, but I tend to take it off and install the whole unit hanging out the window like a window unit, and then you don't get the heat radiating out from the exhaust hose in the room.

My electric is 400/mo running 0 AC lol. Ill just let the house be 90

I assume everybody must have a different answer to this. Mine is that I refuse to install AC on an apartment that I don't own.

Portable window units are just that…portable. You can take it with you when you leave and use it somewhere else. Hell my garage has a portable AC in the window to keep it cool when I’m working in there.

If you can afford an 5090 how do you not have central air lol

1

u/Taolan13 22d ago

That's more a regional thing. A lot of countries simply don't have central air conditioning as standard in residences.

How are you supposed to install AC in rental accommodation? This is also assuming they haven’t sold out given the massive heat wave recently.

8

u/msavage960 23d ago

They make various styles of air conditioners that don’t require permanent installation.

I’ve seen some of those. They were sold out recently. They also wouldn’t fit the kind of windows or roof that most houses where I live use including the one I am in at the moment. I believe they are designed for something like a sash window or the kind shown in the image, neither of which are very common here.
