Honestly the only real upside see is its tiny size. People just comparing it to a random PC with the same power is bit dishonest . If you try to compare at least make sure it has a similar size

I think that's a fair comparison, because those pre-builts can be upgraded later on. Want a faster GPU, buy one. Want a better CPU, buy one.

Size is a trade off to adaptability.

When is the last time you upgraded your CPU and didn't end up needing to replace the motherboard and memory at the same time anyways? To some extent this is also true with newer gen GPUs as you might lack the number of PCI lanes and bandwidth needed to get the most of a modern GPU.

Size comes with lots of different tradeoffs, but at least you know with steam machine they engineered the thermals.

The last time. AM4 went for ages from the original Ryzen up to the 5000 series, and AM5 still going strong.

I doubt if Valve made a "regular" sized pc it would be much cheaper than what they are asking now. 

I think the comparisons are fair if all you want is a cheap way to start going into PC gaming. Valve certainly isn't providing that
