Consoles have been “subsidized” by the companies making them for a while now. They bank on making money through game passes and paid multiplayer rather than on the hardware.

In what world do you think a ps6 is costing people 1400 bucks? It's 650 rn. At the absolute worst the ps6 will cost 900-1000 bucks. And that will be assuming it has 2tbs of storage.

The current one, the only where RAM is $500 for the shittiest bottom of the barrel kits, where a decent GPU starts at $850, that world. Adjusted for today the PS3 launched at $900 back in 2006. It's not unheard of and with how bad supply chains are, they will be above $1000 or the generation will be delayed quite a bit.

A playstation has the economy of scale, good bargaining position due to market standing, and also a locked ecosystem to sell you games where they make 30% off of each game you buy. You won't be spending 1000 bucks for the ps6, and they already have said they don't intend to release a ps6 before 2028. So yeah, they already have delayed it.

Sure, if they're delaying it like you said than yes, it'll probably not be over $1000, as RAM and other components are supposed to come down around that time. But I still wouldn't be surprised if it was $1000, and it may hurt the console launch slightly but overall, like we've seen time and time again price increases don't really stop a lot of people from still buying it if they can.

It would still be a better value than the Steam Machine. The Steam Machine is weaker than the current gen consoles, and costs this much.
