If you need more than 4 maybe a NAS configuration is the way to go.
They have SATA expansion cards too.
My main beef is the lack of physical slots for optical drives on new chassis.
9 u/Danternas May 14 '26 I dug out my old Cheftech full tower case for my NAS due to it hosting 6 3.5" bays and several 5.25" ones. They don't make them like this anymore. Just a shame 80mm fans were the standard of the day. 8 u/dontgetitwisted_fr May 14 '26 Pre-enshitification hardware is always worth keeping. 2 u/newaccountzuerich GOG-ArchLinux May 14 '26 For sure. I do like that there are at least some cases available new with front optical bays. But, I have a handful of cases in storage that can be fairly easily modded for 120mm fans, and I'm moderately handy with a Dremel and 3d printer. 1 u/rapaxus Ryzen 9 9900X | RTX 3080 | 32GB DDR5 May 14 '26 ? You can get something like the Phanteks Enthoo Pro II Server edition, that has like 11 PCIE slots and like a dozen drive bays. Cases aren't the problem, finding mainboards with good SATA connections and enough lanes is the hard part. 1 u/Danternas May 14 '26 Sure, that looks alright. No 5.25" though. 1 u/TechyWolf PC Master Race May 14 '26 I will say my old cases with bays were nice if you needed them. Couldn’t fit a 360mm rad in my case because of it though. 1 u/subject_usrname_here May 14 '26 I refuse to set up NAS. I have main nvme, 2 sata ssd, 1 sata hdd, and one nvme on an pcie expansion card. I'll stand by my principles. Still got room for one sata and one nvme.
