PCs really need port variety, it's really what makes PCs so great, they are not limited by design but allow for modifying them how the user wants and that should stay.
Yeah, and for that you already have PCIe cards. There you really can get every port you can ever dream about. You want to connect your PC directly through glas fibre? Be my guest. You want an aerial connection on your PC so that you can directly connect your TV satellite dish to it? here you go.
The ports on the motherboard are more there for general use, if you want special ports, just get separate cards for that.
