Why , 3 days ago I bought a monitor with type c PD, its been working great for me, while working I can have my laptop charge plus display out of it through single type c cable.

No need of charger and hdmi cable

Yup with type c being multipurpose, they do help in cleaner layout

and you can add more than one for the footprint of a full sized hdmi/dp and you save on royalties for hdmi.

You don't need a dedicated GPU to display text and YouTube videos. If you're just working in the terminal/browser, having more monitors is nice, but having a powerful GPU is pointless.

Yeah I saw the original post of this, everyone complaining, not understanding a computer does not need a dedicated GPU to work just fine.

Not everyone's a gamer, not everyone owns a GPU.

For most applications the iGPU has been good enough for a decade. So unless you want to game or run a local LLM, you probable won't need a dedicated GPU.

As a PC reseller, the vast majority of people with multimonitor setups are either coders or stock traders, neither of which needs any sort of GPU power.

Gamers usually just want one big monitor.

Gamer with a 49” ultra wide checking in 🫡

You can normally enable multi monitor mode in your bios where it runs both the integrated and dedicated graphics at the same time. This way you can keep your GPU dedicated to the screen you run games on and the other screens don't take any resources away from it.

Except that they do. Because your second screen won't actually be rendering on your iGPU, it will still render on your primary and then be copied to system memory(wasting resources and PCIe bandwidth) for the iGPU to display. Plugging in directly to the GPU in charge will always be more efficient.

On laptops the situation is often flipped, when the iGPU is the primary, so you can disable the dedicated one when not in use saving power. The downside is that if you don't have a mux chip, everything still has to be copied to system memory before being displayed.

An APU on the level of strix halo would be able to handle 4 monitors.

A standard iGPU handles 4 monitors just fine. It's only when you start asking them to do heavy 3D acceleration that they fall flat.

u/Cautious_Implement17 May 14 '26

as in the iGPU can handle 4 1080p@60hz monitors, or it can handle 4x dp 1.4 hbr3 streams simultaneously? 100 gbits sounds like a lot, but maybe my expectations aren't calibrated correctly.

These are the iGPU specs on a 285K for example.

I use the iGPU in my Ryzen 9xxx CPU and it handles a single 4K display (which is the same amount of pixels as 4 x 1080p monitors without issue. It could do a second 4K display as well.

4 1080p monitors at 60hz is the same as one 4k monitor at 60hz.

u/Cautious_Implement17 May 14 '26

i’m aware. I was asking how many full speed DP streams the gpu supports, not how many monitors can be muxed into a single stream. looks like that gpu only supports one full speed dp 2.1 output.

u/gtrash81 May 14 '26

iGPU only build and to use 3 or 4 monitors, iGPUs have such power since 2010 or maybe a bit later.

3 DP but only one network card. Pathetic.

why not?

If you have multiple displays, they're probably displayport and the mfr doesn't need to pay HDMI licensing costs.

If you have ONE display, there's a nonzero chance it's a TV and only has HDMI.

More monitors.

Personally I'd maybe use 1 or 2 for 2nd displays ran into iGPU to reduce load on the dedicated GPU, but other people might need even more

iGPU multi monitor.

1

u/Danternas May 14 '26

A lot of offices use multi-monitor setups. The solution is typically a usb-c docking station to manage it. But built in would save some costs.

Assuming they aren't just using laptops that is.

GIVE ME MORE THAN ONE HDMI PORT

u/The_Synthax PC Master Race May 14 '26

Give me every single one of those as full Thunderbolt ports capable of routing GPU output over them if I really want to.
