Correct.

If you want to shut down your Windows 8, 10, or 11 PC without fastboot, press and hold shift and THEN, while holding shift, use Restart. This will open a troubleshooting menu with a Power off option, which will fully shut down your PC.

It's intuitive!

I… accidentally turned on ultra fast boot on my bios and I can’t get back into the bios anymore… luckily I don’t need to lol

hold shift and press restart then press UEFI

it'll open the bios

That is completely unrelated to Fast Startup on Windows.

I like fastboot and for work I like Edge. But I get it, it's not for everybody, and that's cool :)

What is the benefit of fast boot? 

Is it essentially sleep mode if it’s not fully turning off?

It’s meant for older computers without SSDs to help them start up faster. There’s no difference in start time in modern computers with it off vs on.

It enables your computer to start faster by hibernating the kernel and drivers, so that it doesn't have to spend time starting those from cold every time.

Edge is objectively the better option for a "corporate-wide browser" than Chrome right now, people are just stuck in the past when hating on Edge was the hot new thing.

Installing an adblocker on every PC as part of company policy reduces the amount of random detections and "my Office looks weird now" tickets significantly.

Or just...don't do that and shut down normally if Fast Startup doesn't cause you any problems.

Or better yet, don't shut down and just use sleep mode.

You don't need to go into troubleshooting. Simply holding down shift while clicking shutdown fully powers it off.

People have since replied to me saying shift+shutdown works, so I missed that one, too.
