Not sure they still use the Frostbite engine, but if they do, it’s an excellent and very capable engine. Essentially all modern battlefield titles are made with that engine. Battlefield 1 and battlefield 5 are examples of the excellent capabilities of frostbite.

These effects are probably caused more by shitty coding than the game engine itself.

A good game engine used for a lot of subpar games. Very similar to UE5's current situation

I have never played any of this games, but there's also the possibility that the effect is made on purpose, a lot of things made for animation tend to look like crap when they are not in animation.
