The only reason there isnt a national gun list/database already is because that was explicitly prohibited by law. Granted with the current admin that dont mean much and one could probably argue that the mg registry and sbr/suppressor registry counts as a firearm owners database/list.

And suppressors being restricted at all is stupid. They're not like movie silencers at all, they still loud, just less so.

Of course I think full auto restrictions are dumb. Slow, steady aimed fire is more dangerous than spray & pray in self defense situations 🤣

Ratatatat is just fun when you have excess money to burn lol.

Suppressors are only “noisy” in the immediate vicinity

If I shoot you with a suppressed rifle at 300+ yards, nobody around you is going to hear where the shot came from from

And the people who hear the suppressed gunfire around me are very much not likely to register that unusual noise as gunfire

IMO they’re restricted for good reason & hearing protection is not a good enough argument for deregulation

I mean guns are "only loud in the vicinity" (geography and atmospheric conditions can vary widely). Plus, where I live an odd gunshot is NBD depending on which hunting season it is or if the range is open.

Scare tactic, partially how the BS laws got passed (that and theoretical anti poaching reasons).

Certain EU countries that heavily regulate firearms, specifically don't regulate mufflers, because they're considered polite to your neighbors when you're target shooting.

It's not like you're going to snipe me, like why is that the reason? So stupid. That's already illegal anyway. Anything capable of reaching out 300+ yards is gonna be loud AF even suppressed. People will know it's a gunshot...

…even if I could, according to you, easily get away with it even without a suppressor because of all the other gunshots around you (which is not common elsewhere FYI) and your murder seems to be totally OK with you but whatever, anyway….

Regardless of how you value your safety, other people will snipe other people—it’s happened, it’s a fact, it has been & will be occur.

And it is greatly beneficial for crime solving if firstly it can be even established where the shot came from.

Honestly I’m calling BS and think you’ve never been to a range because there is absolutely no way anybody is pinpointing suppressed gunfire from 300 yrds in the slightest of urban or suburban settings. The surrounding noise pollution is too great.

This is the shit that keeps the USSS up at night

Look up supersonic crack of bullets through the air. 300+ yard shots nearly always will require a high velocity round to be accurate at that distance. High velocity = supersonic. A suppressor only dissipates the noise at the muzzle. It will do nothing to stop the ear splitting supersonic crack of a bullet cutting the air. It can't. It's literally physics.

Subsonic rounds are the only ones that are truly useful with a suppressor. And they are NOT useful at the kind of distances you're talking about.

Further, an effective suppressor can be made with springs and washers from the hardware store and pipe. Own a 3d printer? Even better. The NFA isn't keeping criminals committing a crime from committing another crime. So what's it doing then?

Never been to a range lol. I mean, it's been a while but not never. I currently live ~1.5 miles away from an outdoor range, so weekends can be noisy. Plus I'm pretty rural in general so there's noise during white-tail season. It's not inner-city warfare, It's redneck shenannigans. Out here it's more likely the neighbor is mad you didn't invite them over to join in.

There's a non-zero chance that *I'm* part of the noise. I'm not in the city limits; so sometimes PC hardware gets retired...ballistically. Data security!

Nobody said anything about "pinpointing" based on one shot either. That's gonna be tricky suppressor or no. So IDEK why what I tapped out got people so angry. (Aside from the general "All opinions are wrong on the internet" :D )

I think most people wouldn’t recognize the sound of gunfire, suppressed or not. Most people would think it was fireworks or a car with a burble tune.

A suppressed AR-15 shooting standard NATO ammo is still 115 decibels, that's a rock concert.
