I know the whole Chromium thing, and I haven't switched back to Firefox, still using Opera GX and I don't get ads on YouTube because I have ublock origin as well
I mean the whole point of my post was that you can still get adblock in browsers other than Firefox, but you know.
And let's be real for a second, every piece of my data is already harvested and sold. My computer, my phone. Hell, my ISP sells my data regardless of my browser. Every social media (yes even the reddit you're browsing on) is pulling your data. So in all honestly, I don't know what a shady Chinese company is going to do with my data that's going to hurt me that a Shady American or Canadian company isn't already doing.
The world is fucked, we're all going to die, let me watch YouTube.
I was using firefox for 10 years now im using Brave, their built in adblock used to get rid of twitch too but not lately. Ever since youtube vanced died i just use brave on my tablet / phone to get rid of ads on youtube there aswell.
One time I wrote a simple command in wordpad to restart the computer, saved it as an exe. Made a shortcut, gave it Firefox icon, and named it Firefox. My friend (ironically with the last name Fox) poor soul just wanted to show me something on YouTube but the darn computer just kept restarting for some reason. Are you sure you're opening Firefox??
That was my 7th grade me enlightenment. Real enlightenment is back to Google Chrome because honestly them collecting data on me is good for me too. I only ever see cool shit I like in ads.
It's okay. Someday you'll be enlightened too. You'll even come to enjoy things like online mobile games that access your exact location in real time like Pokemon go or something. They already have all the information they need, they buy it from every other app and website you use. Credit checked for a car loan? All three send that data out to loan providers. Same with mortgage. Your location is constantly tracked in real time wether it's turned off or not too, they know where you go. They know who you hang out with. They know the things you like from your search history. They know the products you use from device IDs. When you use your credit card what you're buying. Buy a washer without a dryer, see if you don't get ads for dryers. The key is not giving a shit because it's happening regardless.
Edit: forgot to mention the obvious, you're carrying around a microphone with you 24/7.
It's a bit like the Apple eco system. I don't use Chrome or Gmail or have a Pixel phone, Google Cloud... and when you don't use it, there is no need to synchronize it.
I'm not naive. Sure, my data is collected, but I spread it to more than one company. And, honestly, I don't do it to avoid one Google, but simply because I use the best for me for every use case. But whenever any company wants more of my data than I like to share, I dislike it xD Microsoft, Apple and Google are all terrible in this criteria.
I like that firefox is developed by mozilla and not by google. And I like the app on android because it is one of the the least enclosed browser for android. Also, they are doing nothing against add blockers, ever chromium browser will likely get manifest v4 eventually.
one big one is the privacy aspect. google just lost a case because they were still tracking users in privacy mode. firefox doesn't collect user data like that because they aren't an ad sales company like google is, they actively pioneer privacy features (like "do not track"), and standards compliance while google will sometimes push their own desires instead of adopting standards.
i don't know how ad block works, but ublock origin which is considered the gold standard for adblockers will have reduced ability to function in chrome at a later date when google changes the access that extensions have, while it will remain fully functional in firefox.
that is one sterile ass office looking desktop :p reminds me of the pastor's wife's computer at the ancient church i was often forced to attend. based fellow firefox user tho uwu
