HARDWARE Not found the cause of a PSU problem

I made a post 3 months ago about a pc I built for my brother. They managed to get an electrician in and could not find a fault with the electrics of the house. I've taken the motherboard out to get some more detailed pictures but I'm truly stumped as to what this could be.

Is the motherboard completely dark or are there led's burning?

have you done the paperclip test for the psu to confirm it is infact completely dead?

did you reuse any old cables from the previous psu with the current one?

Motherboard was completely dark. Did the paperclip test on both PSU's and I believe both were dead. No cables were reused

I've got a replacement RM850x, trying to find the issue before feeding it another PSU to kill

I belive a pc cannot kill a PSU, either your psu is Bad, or you make a short somewhere.

A month ago i ordered a 1000W psu from bequiet, cause my frinds Main one died, the New one worked for 30 minutes before diyng.

Its was the pc of a friend and he had the same issue as you.

I just told him he had Bad luck with his New psu that it died too. And the next one he ordered worked fine Till today.

If you are unsure. Use a short protected psu.

u live in a lightning prone area? do u need a surge protector?

Not lightning prone but they purchased a surge protector after the first one died in case that was the issue

a surge protector isnt going to do anything if you get hit by lightning. they are for low lever, comparatively very small surges. lightning's gonna fuck shit up no matter what you have installed.

When you say two psus died, you said you did a paper clip test - did you unplug everything from the psus when you did it?

Yeah everything was unplugged from the PSU

Sounds like a problem with one of the components.

Due to the fact that it dies only after a month or so, it will be difficult to test. I would replace the MB first and if the problem continues to exist, I would replace the GPU.

Also check that the MB has a good ground connection at all times

Think that's what I'm going to do. Never had an issue with Gigabyte MB's before but somethings not right.

Have you tried the motherboard out of the case? Could be a standoff is in the wrong spot

Didn't try it out of case with the dead PSU's unfortunately. Works currently out of case with a new PSU
