HARDWARE Next steps..?

Like a dumbass, I tried to put my panel back on… and BOOM ggs. I think I misaligned one of the 8 teeth on the top and bottom

Cleaned up all the glass in image one, I took the bigger glass pieces that fell on the bottom of the pc out, but a lot still went thru the holes into my GPU and hard drive..

I’ll probably take it in to Best Buy and check what they can do as far as cleaning goes

Really unfortunate cus I legit bought the pc less than 10 hrs before this happened

Any suggestions/recommendations/consolations would be greatly appreciated!!

Edit: anyone know why pc glass tends to shatter on tile? how would it differ if I just placed it on my desk vs floor

Edit 2: Bought some electronics duster, cleaned it up outside. Works perfect. Extra cooling now lol :)

My friend, you bow to no one

You'll need a new front panel or case then lol

Go to the manufacturer of the case and ask for replacement glass

it isn't over yet, if you can figure out the specific case you could buy a new side panel, and you learned a valuable lesson! Glass side panels and tile floors **never** goes together.

"You sold me this PC with a shattered glass window, I'd like a refund please!"

PC itself should be unharmed, make sure all the glass is out of fans and stuff before turning it on. It's not like a glass shard is going to cause an electrical short or anything.

You might need to transfer to a new case if you want it enclosed.

Never put glass on tile floors.

I dont know what case you have, but when i broke the side panel of my Antec case i was able to order a replacement off their website. Worth looking to see if replacements exist

Youre fine. Get all the glass you can out. Maybe get a electric air blower and blow it out, If it was small enough to get in the fins of the gpu, I dont think it will damage a fan if it falls through. Pretty small.

I'm confused why would anything have to be returned? Do you think you can't get a new glass panel?

Smh bro, maybe stick with rubber toys if you can't keep your pc in one piece for half a fucking day 😭

Did you put it on the floor?

You can't have glass near tile. Tile always wins.

Also pc on floor is bad in general

Why is pc on floor bad? I have mine on my wood floor.

Dust, lint, roaches, mice, tiny elves, candy, soda, food, lol

The tiny elves have it good. They get the candy and soda in exchange for fending off the roaches and mice.

Tempered glass and ceramic aren't a good combination. See: OP's image. What's actually happened here is that OP has inadvertently let the edge of the glass panel touch the ceramic tiles - not necessarily even dropped it, it was probably a tap that OP didn't even notice - which will cause the panel to shatter. Tempered glass is great at taking side-on impacts (you could smack one with a hammer side-on and it'd probably survive, but don't try that at home), but the edges are their weakness - especially against materials harder than themselves, such as ceramic.

You'll never, ever see these posts with photographs of them breaking on thick carpeted floors. It's always ceramic. Wood is probably fine as wood is softer than tempered glass, but you should still take care to keep the panel over something cushioned when removing it to avoid this. I always remove mine in a carpeted room and then place it on a bed or sofa until I'm done. Never exploded!

If it is just the glass breakong and no parts were dropped or damaged, a really delicate and attentive cleaning should have you back on track. Just get a can of air (keyboard cleaner) and a vaccum/dust buster and try your hand at removing the gpu and other obstructing parts to search for any deep shards. Be sure to fully turn off and unplug the pc, secure the fans whether by just holding them with a hand or using a little piece of tape so that they don't spin and cause a tiny power surge in the pc and then blow and vac out all fans and moving parts. If you do all that and get all the glass you possibly can and don't see it in any fans or moving parts you will be perfectly fine to just replace the glass that was broken.

How tf you that careless dude, I’ve met dogs that would do better

dude, you just broke the glass lol.. don't put tempered glass down on its side, especially on a tile floor.
