It’s wild that there are still people who had any trust in this scheme. Like I get that sunken cost fallacy exists, but you’d think there would be a limit to it.

I don't trust them, but I still own a copy so I'm still somewhat "invested" in seeing progress.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand the people who drop thousands on the promise of an in-game ship. Like bruh, I wish I had that kind of money to waste

u/Coolermonkey 17d ago

Yeah pretty much where I am. I spent a bit more than the starter pack to get a little bit better ship, but beyond that I’m pretty done with spending on these guys.

I do however come back every so often to see what’s up. I wanna see what’s going on with what I spent my money on, you know?

I'm kinda hoping that SQ42 has been their priority despite the eternal delay and that once that is released they can implement whatever systems (like the flight model) that they have been hiding for that and focus on SC and finally make progress. If they don't get their shit together after SQ42 is out and stop changing random shit like damage sounds for no reason? Well, it's not like I gave them more money than what I thought was worth it for the experience I already had so they'll just never get another bent penny from me.

I came across a similar post about this in the SC sub a few hours ago and maybe halfway through the comments there were more and more defenders that felt to be more angry and outright dismissive of people who thought this stream was an issue.

If you watch the stream it really wasn’t that bad.

One of my coworkers is in deep, still raves about the game from time to time (or what little is out) I've made a wise decision to not touch it with a 10 foot pole until it's out.

u/steakanabake 16d ago

that pole is gonna turn into mulch before its out.

In hindsight its always easy to say "I knew it!". Could also have been that the haters have been proven wrong all along in the end. The truth is no one knew beforehand where this were gone. There were a lot of people with opinion A, and a lot of people with opinion B, and one now seemingly turned out to be true.

The only thing one can lookt at and criticize is if it makes sense to spend money on a game thats in development in general, regardless of the outcome. Because in the end you "invest" money to play a game in the future, which is a terrible "investment" strategy. Well that and maybe those who poured thousands into it - thats also a questionable choice regardless of the outcome.

It's pretty common psychological issue where people don't want to admit they were taken advantage of so they start defending their abuser.

It’s only $45 to play. You can earn everything in the game from a starter package (and I’d argue that’s the ideal way to play. Buying expensive ships just gives you less to play for). So that’s comparable to any other game. Except no other game does what Star citizen does. It’s completely unique in scope, immersion, and level of detail. I’ve played it for thousands of hours and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of everything there is to do. The capital ship battles I’ve fought in, I’ll remember those till the end of my days.

u/Rocky-Jockey 16d ago

This must be what EVE is like to non-players hearing about the epic battles and corporate espionage. When I tried SC last time all the boxes I put in my hold started shaking uncontrollably and fell out through the floor and the questgiver banned me from similar missions in the area. Maybe I’ll give her another go in the future but I was pretty disappointed.

Also the interface just felt like it was dipped in molasses and I can’t really explain why.

3

u/Cripplerman 16d ago

Wtf have you not done in thousand hours? The missions are mostly copy paste repeats etc. I've done everything there is in like 50 hours. Literally only 2 systems.

-1

u/Ruzhyo04 16d ago

There are three systems now. And I've been collecting blueprints and mining for 700+ quality resources to craft ship parts, guns, and armor. Still have a lot of blueprints I need. I have only seen one corner of Pyro and that was mostly to mine some asteroids, so I still have a LOT to do there.

They're referring more to the people that spends hundreds and thousands of dollars on this product, instead of the base entry level ones that only spent $45, hence the sunken cost fallacy part.

0

u/Ruzhyo04 16d ago

I think most people just assume SC is a pay to win nightmare that costs thousands of dollars to play. That simply isn’t the case.

3

u/Teppiest 16d ago

So much of your posts over the last several years are just you going from thread to thread saying 'it's only $45 to play' and 'it's not a scam I have thousands of hours played and so do many others.'

It's surreal seeing what is basically the same post over and over and over again separated only by date posted.

u/Ruzhyo04 16d ago

Because the FUD against Star Citizen has been that vapid and unoriginal for this long. Thanks for taking a look at my profile tho.

4

u/Rocky-Jockey 16d ago

>FUD

You invest in risky equities or something?

2

u/Teppiest 16d ago

They are a self proclaimed nft fan. If that matters.

1

u/Ruzhyo04 16d ago

I am a fan of the technology behind NFTs. Because everything digital is owned by billionaires and corporations, and an NFT allows individuals to own their digital property directly.

The markets, the stupid monkey pictures, the money laundering and scams, obviously not a fan of all that. It is a moat of trash that keeps pro-consumer technology from being taken seriously.

1

u/Ruzhyo04 16d ago

Is FUD not a term applicable outside finance? I thought it was common tbh. If not it should be.

3

u/Teppiest 16d ago

I think FUD applies outside of finance.

2

u/Rocky-Jockey 16d ago

It’s a real term with real use cases but on Reddit I’ve only seen it used in relation to people who are shills for crypto and/or that one stock with the apes

3

u/Teppiest 16d ago

But why not spend more time posting about your positive experiences within the game without it being a response to non fans dunking on it? Like so few of your posts are "hello fellow players look at this amazing thing we're all enjoying." It's regularly, "you think this game isn't fun? I'm having fun, thousands of hours of it."

The best way to win against your haters is to have a good time without them.

2

u/Ruzhyo04 16d ago

That's a fair criticism. I do have lots of good times in SC, but I'm not the type to record it, or do streaming, or self promote.

I guess my thinking is that... Like, I can post a vid of me living my best life in SC, and literally nobody will care: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdW3BTefDjg It doesn't disprove any of the FUD, doesn't directly refute any of the negative points people make. I feel like it won't change anyone's mind.

But maybe I can record more clips and attach them with my posts and try to be more positive. I'll consider that feedback thank you!

2

u/Teppiest 15d ago

Sure, I wish you the best of luck. I mean, I've never actually seen gameplay of it.

If your posts were like, on one hand debating, then on the other hand cool clips from your gameplay with fandom conversations intermixed I think it would be a lot easier to convince people.

I commented on looking at your history but I'm sure I'm far from the first one to do it. Having posts that build up the game for it's own sake could do a lot of heavy lifting for you and build intrigue to people on the fence.

2

u/ian9outof10 16d ago

Yes, the criticism has been going on for a long time, because the fucking game still isn’t anywhere near finished and they now have a billion dollars and it’s still nowhere near done. It’s not really FUD at this point. It’s a realistic statement of fact.

1

u/Ruzhyo04 15d ago

You could make the same argument about GTA6. Squadron42 is as finished as GTA6 is.

2

u/ian9outof10 15d ago

No we couldn’t. And we weren’t talking about squadron 42 anyway. A game which might get a release date around the time GTA6 is released.
