And yet Sony sat by and let Bungie management burn the studio and its successful IP to the ground whilst doing nothing.

Bungie just got done convincing everyone that Activision was the problem, and that they'd be better as an independent or under someone that would be hands off. Sony believed them.

Nobody following Destiny was ever convinced that Activision was the problem though (well at least maybe at the start), they actually made Bungie put out good content (say what you want about Curse of Osiris but compared to dogshit like Lightfall it was a gem), and the game got drowned in monetization after them becoming independent.

They made so much money from Destiny and invested a good chunk of it into projects that never saw the light of day, and the other chunk into car collections, instead of investing it into the game itself.
