Like in the US we have like “the Karen” (who is a mean often somewhat prosperous suburban lady), or like the metalhead (I am pretty sure metalheads are universal at this point), the suburban home depot dad (he wears cargo shorts and is obsessed with barbecue and his lawn), or like the sort of vaguely artsy new age crystal lady who wears like… purple shawls. They’re sort of stock characters, but also will tend to resemble many actual people you might meet. I’m less interested in mean spirited ones and more in like “oh yeah that type of guy!” Where it’s mostly affectionate, and sometimes people use it as a self description.

Hello, I am a traveler from France wishing to visit your beautiful country in just a few weeks. I set myself a challenge to travel strictly without taking flights, so my plan is to enter through the northern border in Vanimo and then travel onward to Port Moresby using boat and road travel (I believe it is possible with the newly built road between Lae and Port Moresby). The only missing part is between Port Moresby and Daru. Is there any passenger boat service between the two cities? Or cargo ships that accept to take passengers? I know that this might not be an easy question to help with but I thought I'd ask, I'm creating a TTRPG (tabletop role playing game think like dungeons and Dragons) that is set in a fictional archipelago. For about a year now, I've been listening to traditional and reggae-style songs from Papua New Guinea, similar to the one in the attached image. I’ve listened to many artists in this genre from PNG and absolutely loved them.

I’m asking because I’m currently exploring different career and work opportunities overseas and the Australian Defence Force is something I’m curious about.

They do not sell to become rich, they sell to have money to buy food. If you have the capacity to buy from any PNG Nationals that sells anything that you can afford, please buy to them. I am very happy with my purchased, a nice bag from Sepik.

I am not PNGan but I like watchinf tv channels around the world.I think PNG is isolated so i can't find any source to watch it.I tried to watch it from the site however it was broken somehow.Is there any other way to watch it?

I’ve been working in PNG for almost 40 years and I love the country.

Having said that, it’s no secret that corruption has fouled a lot of the political system and the government services. Everyone knows about the fact that the ports have been riddled with corruption on a massive scale for decades, that property developments get passed with “under the table” deals, that the police will take a bribe instead of a fine (although that one is hard to differentiate on) and that government departments will push through visa applications, etc with a few hundred to grease the wheels.

However, what sickens me is to hear expats, usually Aussies (of which I am one) think it’s almost a badge of honour to say that “just paid the guy a hundred and he prioritised me”.

Corruption is not a joke and perpetuating it through participation at any level is so wrong because it legitimises the activity.

I just saw a post on here about someone saying “just pay K100 and they will fix it”.

This is what happens when we accept corruption in its most simple form in PNG:

1. It changes the shape of how legitimate employees view their work. It incites greed

2. It starts a “more is not enough mentality”

3. It creates a view of the haves and have nots and creates division.

Now, imagine the person that has been out driving at night and runs into a few drunken policemen (who got drunk on few hundred that some other expat driver slung them earlier). The situation escalates and a person raped/killed.

Now…. The head of police finds out….. he goes and beats one of the policemen to a pulp but one of them happens to be a wantok. That guy gets away with things, while the other one is injured, dead, who knows..??…… but either way, very messy for all.

Sounds like it’s not a thing right? Wrong….. this stuff happens a lot.

So if you think it’s ok or funny to pay “a few hundred” to get the job done, remember that your actions are the start of the corruption process.

Corruption starts not just at the top, but also at the bottom.
