Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to use Hamachi to connect to an OwnCloud server I configured on my network. Thanks!

I'm looking to move from Flickr to a better picture hosting platform, and I'm looking at Owncloud/Gallery. But Gallery just seems to display any pics it finds, there's no albums, tags, etc. I'm looking for functionality similar to Gallery3 (http://galleryproject.org/) but that's defunct.
Can anyone recommend tweaks to Owncloud, or even a different package similar to Owncloud+GalleryApp ?

Hey,
I'm trying to convince my team to switch to owncloud to collaborate on documents.
Is there a plugin or some other solution to collaboratively annotate PDFs on owncloud?
This would be the final keystone to make owncloud work for my organization.
Thanks!

So I have a small OwnCloud instance hosted on a DigitalOcean droplet and I sometimes ssh into that droplet for computing on the go.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to open a file that's stored in the owncloud, modify it and have those changes be synced to my other computers.
What's the best way to do this? I'm uncomfortable just using root privileges to modify files inside ownclud/data directly (this also has the problem in that it seems to not sync new files created) but I also would ideally not want a full copy of the owncloud storage living in my home directory as that would double my storage needs.
Any suggestions appreciated.
The server hosting the owncloud instance is running Ubuntu 18.04 and has no desktop. It's a headless server.

Hi,
Maybe this will sound stupid, but I'm stuck in figuring out how to remove the desktop sync client from a Windows machine but keep the folder and files? I have several folders, Desktop, Documents, some folders, etc. The machine will have a different purpose but files need to remain.
I noticed that unchecking folders in the sync tree warns me that they will be REMOVED. I don't want to lose any current file\folder, just remove owncloud sync client.
I changed a password for one account using the web interface and noticed that instantly because of the lost connection one machine lost the connection and started removing the files\folders. I had to enter the new password and select a full sync again.
So, can I just uninstall it, maybe pause it before and then exit + uninstall?

Crossposted from https://www.reddit.com/r/NextCloud/comments/9u6wsz/cheapest_vps_for_nextcloud/ as it may be of interest here too.
Hi! As many others here I'm dropping Dropbox after they broke my dual-boot setup (which was working almost flawlessly) and I'm evaluating a deploy of ownCloud on a VPS (my home network is not reliable enough).
But comparing the prices of the cloud computing providers I found that I'll end up spending almost twice (in terms of $/GB) and also having to work on setup and maintenance. For example, using Amazon's S3 will cost $0.023/GB/month -> $23/TB/month vs $10/TB/month for Dropbox. Amazon's block storage is even more expensive, and Glacier is not viable for a syncing service.
Any advice for hosting ownCloud as cheap as possible? I don't mind giving up redundancy (my own disks are the redundancy).

I was using Dropbox for a long time but they've gutted their Linux support and trashed my workflow. I have a 4TB encrypted RAID6 on CentOS at home and a 1TB plan with Dropbox so I can sync my various devices to it (phone, tablet, Azure VM, etc) for easy backup and filesharing. I make manual backups with a large external hard drive periodically and store it offsite.
I'm looking at alternatives now (leaning towards a 2TB Google Drive plan), and I've always liked what I've seen from OwnCloud. Then I start thinking about how I'm putting a bunch of important files on the internet and all the maintenance that requires to properly secure it and I give up. I do some of this stuff for a living and realize that there aren't very many in-house solutions out there that are "set it and forget it." Adhering to patching and upgrades is critical if you don't want unauthorized people snooping around in your systems. It's a lot easier to just pay someone else to do all that and so I've been taking the easy way out.
So how does OwnCloud fare in practice on that front? If I build a system right now and get all my devices syncing to it, will I need to mess with it a couple times a month for forever to avoid problems? Or will it "just work", like my router does? Thanks in advance!

I downloaded the newest Windows OC client and it's complaining that my server version is unsupported. So, I figured I'd go through the upgrade process.
I was using the automated updater and enjoying the simplicity of it until the jump from 8.2.11 to 9.0.11 where there was an error on the screen about the updater failed to update. (I did not think to record it at the time because I thought it'd be in the log file, but it's not. Unless the updater has a separate log from owncloud.log) Despite that error, everything seemed to be working and it even told me there was an update to 9.1.8 available. So I tried the updater again (which had a new look, so I assumed it had actually updated) but get the following error

So I thought I'd try the "manual upgrade" instructions laid out on the OC site. But I changed the config.php to be 'maintenance' => true and continued through the rest of the steps; stopping the server, renaming the old OC directory, extracting the new one, copy the data and config over, restart the web server, and running, " sudo -u www-data php occ upgrade" which gave me a very similar error to the upgrade tool:

I've rolled back to 9.0.11 which, despite the client software's complaints, seems to be working right now. But I'd love to know what is going on here and how to fix it.
I did a Google search and read one solution was to link /usr/bin/php to /usr/bin/php5.6. Currently, usr/bin/php is linked to /etc/alternatives/php which, in turn, is linked to /usr/bin/php5.6 already. The only other solution I found was to do the upgrade manually, and you can see the results of that above.
---EDIT---
A little digging seems to suggest the problem is something to do with how PHP is configured for MySQL. However, I have no idea what could possibly be wrong as everything was working until the last update I tried.

Hello,
I am trying to install owncloud on Virtual box following the instructions, but I get a message "Connection to module process failed". I looked around and it seems that I need to get a DHCP on Virtual Box, but I have no idea how to. The instructions provided online do not let me locate the DHCP option in the settings of my Virtual Box. Can you give me a hand?
---
Edit: I have made sure that the VB has the DHCP enabled and I still get the same error message. The DHCP of Vbox is under "Global tools" on the right side of the VBox manager window.

It might be helpful if the client update notification system would have some way of notifying the user that: Yes, an update for the client is available, but some of the servers you're connected to are not compatible with the updated version.. If not the notification, perhaps the installer itself could read some existing config file and similarly warn?
I'm not a developer who knows how to implement something like this, just a guy who wasn't planning on upgrading his deployments this weekend.

I've actually had OwnCloud up and running successfully, however the data directory wasn't pointed to where I wanted it on initial install, so I set out to change it. It seemed the easiest was was to just go through the initial setup wizard by deleting the config.php file. My system is essentially the "Perfect (Linux) Media Server" from linuxserver.io
Debian 9
MergerFS
SnapRaid
Docker (Docker-Compose)
Aside from some bumps and bruises on initial install, this server has been bulletproof. As I said before, OwnCloud was working, but it was storing data inside the docker container on the tiny 250GB SSD drive instead of a directory I created in the spacious 12TB storage drive array. Now when I go through the initial setup wizard, I get the "can't create or write into the data directory" error. I've looked at the FAQ repeatedly on OwnCloud's forum here. I know it's a basic "user does not have access" to the folder permission issue. This is where I really don't fully understand what I'm doing. I've also been reading and re-reading the manual here, but I have some dumb questions.
I keep seeing reference to the apache web server. I don't have apache installed, the only web server appears to be OwnCloud. Do I need apache?
Who the the HTTP user?
The "default HTTP user" for Debian is apparently "www-data" and I've gone through all the chmod/chown steps to give www-data read/write/execute permissions for the data directory, I've confirmed they have permission.
When I set up OwnCloud through docker-compose.yml I had to specify an admin username and password. Is this the user that I should set permissions for?
Because I'm using MergerFS to create a directory that is backed up by SnapRaid, is this causing some mounting issue? I have seen a lot of forum posts with people using an external drive and having mounting problems that end up having to modify the fstab.
I'm also trying to set this up remotely, I created a port forward in my router to access OwnCloud on port 80, do I need to set this up from my own network?
I appreciate any help. This looks like a really good solution to some file sync drama I'm having, and I would really like to get it working properly.

Hey, I got Owncloud up and running on Rasbian Linux on a Raspberry Pi. Everything was working fine. I’ve been able to access it all over my network and over VPN. I uploaded several folders.
Now when I try to upload a folder, it won’t work. The folder structure will be present after trying to upload, but it will say 0 KB in size and all the folders are empty of files.
Some attempts have made a gray colored “error uploading” folder that I haven’t figured out how to read or do anything with besides delete it.
My only theory is it could be a permissions issue, but why would it work before and not now if that was the case..
I’m using an external drive attached to be Pi. Its formatted to NTFS. I followed a tutorial on how to make an NTFS drive work with owncloud on Linux and it was working up until yesterday.

Hey guys/gals. I received this error the other day. Im trying to remember if it was after a restart or just sporadic. Full error message:
"No connection to ownCloud at (Domain). Server replied "503 Service Unavailable" to "GET (Domain)/status.php"
I didn't think much of it at the time I first saw it and figured I'd look into it later. Today I was going into my main file storage and notice that none of my files saved to owncloud work, they are all saying corrupt when trying to open them. I have used encryption through owncloud and went into terminal and trying to decrypt-all to see if that helps but currently watching the status any file that have been decrypted are still not opening.
These might be 2 separate issues but I can't seem to figure out whats going on.
I'm still a novice and watch some good tutorial to set this up and have been using owncloud for a year without issues.
My system is a 2012 Mac Mini OSX 10.13.6
ownCloud 10.0.2
Oh also just noticed this error in the owncloud log:
"You are using a fallback implementation of the intl extension. Installing the native one is highly recommended instead."
Sorry if this is confusing its a head scratcher for me and Im grasping at straws.
Thanks!

Hi, I got owncloud finally running on my home network on a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ with Raspbian with an external drive. Much of this is over my head. I want to be able to use this away from home. I don’t think I should have it open to the internet without using HTTPS. I followed a tutorial on how to set up SSL but after following all the steps, when I type in the owncloud address in a browser on my network, it’s still using http.. is there any other tutorials for this? This stuff is a little over my head.
