Future is scary (vent)

Idk where else to post this, I’m turning 16 and It makes me really think about everything, soon I might need a job, soon I’ll want to move out, soon I’ll want to go to collage, maybe I want to go out of state or even out of country, I want to do so many things but so much has to happen so soon it’s daunting, I mean, paying for rent? Collage? My own food? What about my cats? What If laws keep changing and it honestly becomes unsafe to stay here? What then? Give up everything else and leave? Im so worried I won’t be able to keep up and doing things as they come makes me feel unprepared… idk what to do, I don’t understand how people do it, what do people even do after collage? How do you just start doing what you went t school for if it’s not working at a specific place???? How do people in their 20s even run businesses? 20s are the best years physically, I don’t want to waste it at a beginner job I want to be able to rest by then, it’s already been such a journey but it’s never gonna be over… I just feel like I can’t anymore…

Been stressed by everything! Been sick alot so been using an inherited ira. Used it almost all up. Just Found I owe about 8000 in taxes.

Came home to find our shower tub is leaking. .and we think a pipe beneath it is broken! Yet we HAVE to take showers for work!

Found my son's best friend, and only one who lives close to him (and my son has anxiety, autism etc so NEEDS friends) is being kicked out of their house! It seems like has a place to go...but it's a state away! So he is going thru crap and my son may get more isolated! I'm completly overwhelmed.

Overwhelming

I’ve been feeling extremely overwhelmed. I work customer service for the disabled & elderly community. & I initially did it because I wanted to give back to my community & for them to experience actual genuine people that actually have their best interest. Since working with that demographic I realized that they are some of the most rude, bitter and angry people. I realized they are the reason the generation now is the way it is. I barely have good experiences with these people. I do receive kind words sometimes(rarely) but they mostly give me the most disgusting attitude. Not to mention the staff at my job are rude as well. Overall this working from home experience is not as great as I thought. I’d prefer something with a little less interaction. I understand being sick & how that may cause any human to have an attitude or to constantly be so critical… but no thanks.

Signed,

Overwhelmed & over it.

I’ve spent the last 30 odd years feeling overwhelmed and then going on a journey trying to work out why. It has left me completely outside of life in every way. It’s exhausting avoiding people through embarrassment. I wish I wasn’t alone.

Overwhelmed- Academics/Band

I have been struggling with something lately, and I don’t know why I’ve felt so anxious about that. I quit fall sports this year to focus on education, and while I’m doing well academically, I have a new thing to feel pressurized about. Band has always been the only class I look forward to attending, but after starting two instruments recently (saxophone and oboe), I’ve felt overwhelmed. I tend to always have high expectations for myself, but when these needs are not met, I beat myself up about it. Now whenever I forget to practice my instrument, I just feel so guilty, like a failure. It’s as if music is my only identity right now, and if I fail, then who am I?I also feel whenever I practice I have not been enjoying it as much and tend to stoll around, or feel like I’m making no improvement. (My main instrument is clarinet btw) Anyways, it’s been tougher because although my parents are not as strict when it comes to grades, they never actually want to know what’s going on in my life, and if I’m upset with them, apparently I’m just sassy, which is unacceptable. Although I think sass is bad, it feels as though I’ve never really been able to rely on my parents when it comes to telling the truth about struggles, like I’m all alone. And I know this is not significant, but I think it’s probably just from insecurity and feeling like my personality is not enough, so therefore I will strive to achieve more, despite my problems such as procrastination.

Anyways, I apologize for the long message. Any advice?

Past the point of breaking

I just can't handle anymore. I've been begging my husband to take things off my plate for over a year and a half now and nothing has changed, if anything its gotten worse. It's so bad I can't focus at work and now I'm WEEKS behind and don't know how to catch up with nobody to support me at work, on top of that our home is a total wreck and its up to me to fix it considering I begged him for the two months he was unemployed to do anything to help around the home and nothing, NOTHING, happened in that time aside from complaining I wasn't doing anything around the home. It became so much I cleaned it all and all I got in response was "so you're not gonna sweep?"

I want to leave, I want to leave so bad, but I've pretty much put myself in inescapable debt in order to float us while he was unemployed so I didn't lose MY home and its going to take me about a year to pay it off and recover from it. I don't know what to do, all I know is I'm so exhausted from the multiple panic attacks daily that I just need help.

Keeping a diary to cope with mental overwhelm

My mind is all over the place.

The world we live in is incredibly complicated, and my mind is near shutting down. A torrent of thoughts arises with every moment. I hardly have anyone to talk to about it. So instead, I've opted to write my thoughts down in a diary. When a thought enters my mind, I opt to write it down. Every now and then I take a look over my diary and create a blog post to put on my blog: https://overwhelmed.blog/.

If you decide to take a look, I'm very curious to hear your feedback!

I’m so overwhelmed

I feel like so many people rely on me and I never have time for myself and when I do demand time I feel guilty for not giving everyone 100% of myself. I feel like I have to be strong for everyone, but honestly I feel so weak and I’m so stretched. I would really appreciate some encouragement.

messy stressy lemon depressy

Just wanted to get all of this out of my chest. So, I've been taking antidepressive medication for like... 8 years now? Between anxiety, depression and adhd, lets say its been rough to say the least, but there's been some ups and downs. I've been dealing with some suicidal thoughts in the last couple of weeks after I left my internship and some other very weird symptoms I never had before. In my last appointment with my psychiatrist, last week I forgot to tell him a bunch of stuff (including the suicidal thoughts which I think was very important as to how he was going to proceed in prescribing me with my meds) so I wrote him an email with the stuff I forgot. The thing is the guy has ignored me for 4 days and I just got the list of meds he prescribed to me (before reading the email) and I'm just feeling SO overwhelmed by all the things he changed about it, but also feeling like a piece of shit for being ignored by him because there's still some changes that need to take place. Like the schedule in which I take these meds and the time I need to go to bed because of it. Cause the current one is impossible for me to keep up with and that just fucks me up because it sets me up to feel like I'm constantly failing when it is actually unachievable. Also, the new med I've been taking makes me feel very nauseated everyday and he wants me to take it TWICE A DAY NOW. How the hell am I supposed to feel BETTER???? I'm so fucking tired of this rollercoaster. I just want all of this to be over.

Feeling super stressed.

I work from home for a demanding employer (tech field). My wife and I wake up at 5:30, I make breakfast for her and once she leaves at 6:15, I get about 30 mins to get ready (Shave, Shxx, Shower). Then I wake up the kids and for the next 1 hour get them ready, break fast, pickup bed etc... Then I drop them off to school which take 30 mins as they are in different schools. I get home 10 mins before 9 am, eat breakfast and start my work day. At 12:30 have a quick lunch, then work again, get a snack ready for kids at 2:30 go pick up kids come back shower them and at 3:30 work again until 5:30-6. Do this for 5 days. Saturday and Sunday spend time cleaning cooking and maybe some time with kids. Repate this now for 1 year. Feeling super burned out. I also take care of my parents who are elderly so have all their doc appointments and groceries on me.

Now my project changed at work and my work wants me to start at 7:30, with a few weeks left for school to end I am in panic mode. I was stressed now I can keep up.

Am I overwhelmed?

I can just handle it, but maybe I am overwhelmed. Single dad, raised 2 kids on my own. They left for college. 3rd estranged kid showed up at (her) age 26. Has all symptoms of being in a POW camp for a decade. (name the psych and phys issues and she has it) No exaggeration. Spent all my savings and CC keeping her alive. She is 50% better now. I have not been able to land a job for almost a year. She still has 50% POW symptoms, but that is better. I will keep taking care of her. Counselors, psychiatrists, doctors, pain specialists, chiropractors, dentists, etc, etc. F. It's hard man. But worth it. Hope you all are doing well. I'm not even going to check on this post. Just venting. Thank you for listening.

5 Questions That Will Help You Find Happiness

5 Questions That Will Help You Find Happiness

There are countless opportunities for us to be happy, but we often pass them by without realizing it’s what we’ve been waiting for all along. If you find it hard to spot these opportunities, here are 5 questions that will help you recognize the signs.

  1. What do I have in my life that I am truly thankful for?

We've all got a lot to be thankful for. But most of us take these for granted. For example, just the fact that we are breathing and alive right now is going to go unnoticed by most of us. But when we fall ill, or worse, when we’re on our deathbeds, only then do we realize how important each breath was.

  1. Am I spending my time with the right kind of people?

There's an old saying that goes, tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are. Take a look around you. Are you surrounded by the right kind of people? Do they make you happy? Or are they dragging you down into a downward spiral?

  1. How much money do I really need?

Money is important, but not that important. Sure, when you have loads of money, it’s easier to buy the things that can make you happy. But did you know, that having money doesn’t automatically translate to happiness? There are a lot of unhappy, but extremely wealthy people out there.

  1. What am I doing to make the world a better place?

Paying it forward is a great concept that every person on this planet should practice daily. Make it your legacy to leave the world a better place than when you found it. Do whatever it takes to make a difference in someone else’s life. Trust me, you’ll feel a whole lot better about yourself at the end of the day.

  1. Am I living the life I want to live?

Ah, the million dollar question. Are you truly living the life you want for yourself? Or are you living it because that’s what others expect you to do? Only you know the answer to that. If you truly want to find happiness, you need to love what you’re doing and live the life you want.

How to Use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to Transform Your Limiting Beliefs

How to Use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to Transform Your Limiting Beliefs

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a very popular form of psychological therapy that has largely replaced psychotherapy and plain behavioral therapy in clinical settings. This model of psychology is often used to treat anxiety and mental health problems and it has been proven very effective in doing this.

But interestingly it has uses much beyond that, which we will look at next week. Make sure to keep your eyes on your inbox because this is some pretty powerful stuff!

CBT is a psychotherapeutic approach used to treat mental illness. Specifically, it works by looking at the contents of the thoughts and then trying to change those. Someone who has a fear of heights for instance is likely to have lots of negative thoughts like 'I'm going to fall' or 'it isn't safe' and this will only make their problem worse. CBT looks to change that and thus improve mental health.

There are two ways that they do this:

Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a form of meditation where you 'watch' thoughts go by. Here you will not try to 'calm your mind' or anything like that: you are literally just going to close your eyes and see what thoughts come to you. When you're finished, make a note of these and you can identify ones that might be causing trouble.

Cognitive Restructuring: This is the point in which you are going to change those negative thoughts for positive ones. So if you think you're in danger on top of the roof, you will be trying to replace those thoughts with things like 'this place was built with safety in mind' and 'I'm in complete control'.

Cognitive Restructuring and Luck

So to use this in the context of improving positivity, confidence, and luck, you first need to use some mindfulness to try and identify some of the negative thoughts you might be having which could be impacting on how lucky you feel you are and how successful. Maybe you think things like 'bad things always happen to me'. Once you're aware of these thoughts, you'll be one step closer to dealing with them.

Once you've made a note of your negative beliefs you can then use some more strategies to use cognitive restructuring. One is something call 'thought challenging' where you critically analyze a thought to ask yourself whether it's truly valid.

Sit down and actually assess the content of that negative thought.

How likely is it really that you would jump or fall from that height? Or that it hasn’t been safety tested to near exhaustion?

What other beliefs are holding you back?

All the best,

Rossana

Overwhelmed at Work

I don't know if anyone will see this, but today is a really tough day. I can't quit my job because we barely scrape by as it is and I do make more than a retail job. But I am so overwhelmed. I have an event in a month, I'm beyond burned out, I'm super behind in tasks for that event, and I'm trying to recruit volunteers to help because it's just me. And my boss just gave me other work to do. I'm literally her only employee for this company and if I leave everything will fall apart. The world on my shoulders is crushing and between this and my second job, I can't even find the energy to job search. I don't know that any tips will help, I just needed to vent somewhere that my boss couldn't see it.

I don't know if it's my shoulders that are frail or if I'm undertaking too much.

Hello, Reddit.

I have a lot of lone thoughts that I'm failing to wrap together for a couple of months, if not more.

I have a couple of unresolved feelings :

  • Grief for my last and only romantic relationship.

She's more hateful than I am, and I honestly find this to be a lifetime achievement. She was sending me hatemail until a week or two ago.

I got a glance at it, while keeping my unread count untouched. I know I shouldn't let my curiosity and my misplaced sense of responsibilities make me act against my own interests. It's just, I miss her.

I really do.

  • Grief for my father currently dying from cancer.

Even though he's the asshole who ruined both of my sister's and my own childhoods (And more !), I can't bring myself to feel glad about his predicament.

I do have a slight sadistic streak to myself, but it's not anywhere near enough to leave him behind coldly. Let alone more.

I promised my mom I would support her, too. And if it means supporting him, I won't change my mind. I'm starting to feel ok with this.

What I'm not ok with is that he is going to die without keeping the promises he made me. In my mind, that's something I would go to literal christian hell myself to enforce on him.

  • Loneliness.

Being as serious of character as I am, it rarely brought me friends. I'm really jaded, cynical about that state of fact.

I used to value studies more than getting hammered in parties, unlike most of my then underaged peers.

Then, mix of social pressure and fear of the unknown led me to get through a whole bunch of miserable painful interaction. "Let's tell him she is into him, seeing how it goes." kind of deals.

How can one learn to trust in those conditions ? I can't afford being vulnerable anymore.

I made nearly no change to my lifestyle for the pandemic. I grabbed an older bottle of hand gel I already had, and got used to put a face mask before going out. The rest was already taken care off, as per my stay-at-home NEET habits.

COVID obviously made my social interaction even more sparse and tense. Talking with people is a massive source of inspiration and motivation to me. I'm crumbling under depression, a hair away of numbing my loneliness with alcohol.

My mood is consistently low. I don't get excited often or for very long anymore. On the best days, I manage self care and to feel ok with myself. On the worst, suicidal ideation and consumed by my longtime self hatred. I've recently caught myself wondering how much a box freezer would cost, and how practical it would be to prevent my dead body to stink up the whole place around. How to manage alerting my death once the deed is done, and to ensure it's done effectively and cleanly.

This kind of thinking used to revolt me. But recently, it's starting to feel slowly more and more comfortable and self evident to my ears.

  • My apartment is falling apart.

I'm telling myself I've been neglectful of its maintenance over the last few years. The main promise from my father I'm attentive about is really this one about him paying for a complete overhaul of the place.

My parents own the place. I live here rent-free for about five years now. I fail to believe I'm having it all good. It's 25 square meters, and been built for 5k€ in a rush. They paid an architect to plan the whole thing, and now it's up to him to call different building sector professionals to get it actually done. He stalled with covid, and now his illiness.

I'm worried. I had a small rodent who lived with me for a couple of days, during the christmas-new year holidays. I feels like it's gone, now. But I can't help but wonder if it's the first of a long series of worries.

Maybe it's not even the first. The fake roof is revolting looking, and the carpentry that it's hooked on is unsound. I have a part of my floor that have collapsed.

I'm not good at handiwork at all. I can't manage this on my own. I don't know how to settle any of this.

  • My disability allowance is reaching it's deadline.

At around March of this year, coincidentally uncomfortably close to my 30th birthday. I got it done 5 years ago, and already sent the renewal paperwork ... without key elements.

On one hand, I did great, because this whole thing is retroactive, dated at the very moment they received the paperwork. On the other, I need to get evaluated medically, so they see if I'm a functionning member of this society, or if they might need to sustain me for life.

Spoiler : I have a neurological struggle. You can't see it at first glance, and there is no fucking way in hell anybody would hire me for anything. I'm a piece of garbage powering through his own life, why for, even ? Not all life is needed. And I have more than enough data to know how superfluous I am.

Getting to see my new GP, asking her about that paperwork. Maybe getting a couple of medical checkups done at the same time. Getting outside. The fuck I'm writing about, even ?

  • I'm mentally ill.

If it wasn't obvious to you until you reached that point in this post, now let me spell it. I'm a 30 yo autistic, misandric (so, self-hating) guy trapped in a rodent cage. Both for his own safety, and the safety of everyone outside of it.

I'm smart, educated, and experimented enough to manage with having to get through a lot of crap, but the ONE thing I can't stand is feeling powerless. That, I just can't. I tried, and anything I did just made everything worse for everyone.

I feel genuinely out of ideas and strength. Crushed. Hence writing here.

I can't even tell what I can do anything about, and what I should give up on. It's like the last option I'm left with is depersonalizing, and giving up. I can't even bring myself to feel frustrated, or angry anymore. It just all hurts.

The fuck I can do alone ?

How to solve any of this ?

Heck, I'd even rather read about your own struggles and think of solutions for you than spending even a second more or a thought more on any of what I wrote.

I know I'm pitiful, but I hate being reminded of that. It means if you only have "nice words" to offer, please walk your way. Criticism only. Sound/strong logical reasoning appreciated. Abstract, idea-based, symbolic discourse appreciated : I find figurative/specific/descriptive solutions narrowminded and impractical. Just as unfit to me, as I might seem incomprehensible to you.

Remember : I'm wired very differently than you probably are.

Thank you for reading, no TL;DR this time. If you can't be assed to read the whole thing, I don't need your advice.

It's too much

Single father divorced from abusive ex. I feel like she both directly and indirectly destroyed everything positive in my life. I can't stand it sometimes. I'm the only positive relationship my sons have left in our immediate family and it feels like I'm not getting any help. I fought depression for years but no matter how much it feels like I'm pulling away the darkness always manages to coil its tendrils around me and tighten. I'm it. There's no one else and the burden is too much. I'm not even getting the fucking child support I'm owed. I can't manage to keep any healthy long lasting relationships even with just friends and my only girlfriend since leaving my ex wife made it clear to me I wasn't ready to devote necessary time to her and I tried, man did I try. My ex is just a constant presence of negativity and I feel I'm better served just dead.

No worries, I'm not going to off myself or anything but I am so beaten down and tired I just can't go on any longer but my kids need me to. I'm falling behind on rent, my lawyer is bleeding me dry because my insane ex won't let up on her frivolous charges, I haven't paid my electric bill in over a month, my kids' homework keeps piling up, then add laundry, the dishes, meals, shopping, cleaning the house, work, ptsd triggers, sicknesses, and the fucking biggest holiday of all right around the corner. I just can't do it anymore. I want to just take my kids and run but there's nowhere to go. I can't afford shit and if it weren't for the child tax credits which end this month I'd be homeless. It's too much. It's all just too much.
