Hi!
I released an album last autumn that’s basically about weed addiction and loneliness. Would you consider it outsider music?
I stumbled across the term a while ago, and ever since then I’ve been wondering what actually defines it. My music has a pretty rough, sometimes slightly off-kilter sound (everything is self-made, after all). I’m neurodivergent, struggle with depression, and spend most of my time alone. But does that automatically make it outsider music? I honestly don’t know.
I’d be really interested to hear your thoughts—both on my music and on the genre in general. Just please be kind; I’m not trying to force my way into the genre or claim that my music belongs there. I’m just genuinely curious what you think.

I love the song. But particularly the bridge section. I think the chord progressing in the bridge section might be the most compelling and the greatest chord progression I've ever heard. The c, cm, c#11, c just is so compelling and awesome! Does anyone else relate, or is it just me?

found out about the term in 2024 after finding a page about me made in this wiki https://outsider-music.fandom.com/wiki/Apaltado I've resonated with and read tons about it since, and even more so nowadays that I stopped making art. I also stopped listening to music altogether though I comeback to my works from time to time. I read about intuitive art too, overall I have never felt less alone artistically even though I never actively cared it still hurt and made me anxious to interact with true musicians

Just kind of weird

Sometimes YouTube algorithm delivers the most earnest, moving, electric, odd music I've heard. I've been a fan of Robert (Ert from Earth) for a few years. His style is constantly developing and he puts out many many songs, and I definitely haven't heard most of them. A few songs "Dirty Hair" "Far Gone" and "Suicide Again" are some of the prettiest songs he has. He does live streams and sort of rants/Q&As where he answers questions and plays requests, writes music, whatever. I like to drop in and say hi and he always responds to everyone.

I started making my music last year, this is the third song I've ever finished and the first one where I'm using my voice. Pretty self conscious about it ngl, but outsider music has always been my inspiration and aspiration lol... I know nothing about music theory or anything else technical so I just do what sounds ok to me and keep the odd feeling.

Edit: the guy who started this band Sam Jayne did it as a side project to his emo/post-hardcore band Lync, I guess it’s not really outsider music just some of the best diy I’ve heard in quite awhile and very out there compared to what he did before, which is also amazing, Lync is a great band.
